SNU Team Succeeds in Stem Cell Conversion Without Gene Manipulation

SNU Araştırma Takımı, Gen Yönetimi Olmadan Kök Hücre Dönüşümünü Başarıyla Gerçekleştirdiler

Güney Koreli araştırmacılar, insanlardaki yağ dokusu ile kök hücrelerini ilk defa genetik manipülasyona ihtiyaç duymadan sinir kök hücrelerine dönüştürmeyi başardılar.

Seoul Ulusal Üniversitesi, Salı günü, bu araştırma sonucu diş hekimliği profesörü Chang Mi-sook'un ekibi tarafından yapılan bir tezin kısa bir süre önce "Bilimsel Raporlar" adlı global dergide yayınlandığını söyledi.

Mezodermal yağ dokusu kök hücrenin epiblastik bir sinir kökü hücresine dönüştürülmesi dünyada ilk kez uygulandı.

Embriyonik kök hücreleri kullanan çeşitli dönüştürme indüksiyon teknolojileri geliştirildi, ancak hastalarda kök hücre nakli yapıldığında kanser endişeleri nedeniyle klinik uygulamaları kısıtlandı.

Ayrıca, adipozmnkök hücreleri gibi yetişkin kök hücreleri, daha küçük bir kanser riski taşımaktadır, ancak dönüştürme kapasitesi embriyonik kök hücrelere göre çok daha düşüktür.

South Korean researchers have successfully converted human adipose stem cells into neural stem cells without involving genetic manipulation for the first time ever.

Seoul National University said Tuesday that a thesis on this research result by graduate school of dentistry Professor Chang Mi-sook's team was recently published in the global journal "Scientific Reports."

It's a global first to induce a conversion of a mesodermal adipose stem cell into an epiblastic neural stem cell.

Various conversion induction technologies using embryonic stem cells have been developed but their clinical application was restricted due to concerns of cancer when patients received stem cell transplants.

Also, adult stem cells such as adipose stem cells carry a smaller risk of cancer but their conversion capacity is much lower than that of embryonic stem cells.

The latest finding is expected to mark a turning point in the development of safe stem cell treatment.

Kakao AI Speaker Sells Out On 1st Day

Kakao AI Hoparlörü 1.Gününde Tükendi

Güney Kore'nin en mobil haber operatörü Kakao Corp Salı günü yaptığı açıklamada, yapay zeka (AI) hoparlörünün resmi açılışın ilk günü tükendiğini söyledi.

Ülkenin 2 numaralı portalını da işleten Kakao, 15.000 Kakao Mini hoparlörün dokuz dakika içinde tükendiğini söyledi.

Şirket daha önce, Kakao Mini'nin AI platformu olan Kakao I ile birlikte ses tanıma ve doğal dili anlayabilen bir yazılım ile geleceğini söyledi.

18 Eylül'de önceden sipariş verilenler için 40 dakika içinde 3.000'den fazla ürün satıldı.

Kakao Mini'nin resmi fiyatı 119.000 won'a (107 Amerikan Doları) ayarlanırken, aygıt ön sipariş için 59.000 won'a ulaştı.

Kakao Mini, kullanıcıların konuşmalarını doğru bir şekilde yakalamak için dört ileri teknoloji mikrofon ile donatılmıştır. Cihaz, Bluetooth aracılığıyla diğer hoparlörlere bağlanabilirken, kullanıcılar diğer yüksek kaliteli ses sistemleri aracılığıyla da Kakao Mini'nin özelliklerini kullanabiliyorlar.

South Korea's top mobile messenger operator Kakao Corp. said Tuesday its artificial intelligence (AI) speaker sold out on the first day of the official launch.

Kakao, which also operates the country's No. 2 portal, said all 15,000 Kakao Mini speakers sold out in nine minutes.

The company earlier said the Kakao Mini will come with its AI platform, Kakao I, along with voice recognition and software that can understand natural language.

On Sept. 18, more than 3,000 units of the product were sold within 40 minutes for those who preordered. While the official price of the Kakao Mini is set at 119,000 won (US$107), the device was available for 59,000 won for those preordering.

The Kakao Mini is equipped with four high-end microphones to accurately capture users' speech. As the device can connect to other speakers via Bluetooth, users are able to utilize features of the Kakao Mini through other premium audio systems as well.

South Korea's top portal operator Naver Corp. also said 10,000 units of its AI speaker Friends were sold out within 23 hours of the launch on Oct. 17.

SK Telecom Develops Faster Data Processing Tech for 5G Network

SK Telecom, 5G Şebekesi İçin Daha Hızlı Veri İşleme Teknolojisi Geliştiriyor

SK Telecom A.Ş., Salı günü yaptığı açıklamada veriyi uzun vadeli evrim (LTE) ağından 10 kat daha hızlı şekilde işleyebilen beşinci nesil (5G) ağ için veri işleme teknolojisi geliştirmiştir.

Mobil operatör, teknolojinin bir paket anahtarlamalı ağın büyük miktarda veriyi süper hızlı bir şekilde işleyebilmesini sağladığını söyledi. Şirket, akıllı telefonlardan ve mobil cihazlardan şebekeye iletilen tüm verilerin paket anahtarlama prosedürlerine girmesi gerektiğini söyledi.

LTE paket anahtarlama saniyede 20Gb veri işleyebilirken, yeni teknoloji saniyede 200Gb işleyebiliyor.

En yeni gelişme, 5G ağının yakında piyasaya sürülmesinin öncesinde verilerin daha hızlı ve daha kararlı şekilde işlenmesine yol açtığını belirtti.

SK Telecom Co. said Tuesday it has developed data processing technology for the fifth-generation (5G) network that is capable of handling data 10 times faster than the long-term evolution (LTE) network.

The mobile carrier said the technology allows a packet switched network to process massive amounts of data at superhigh speed. The company said all data transmitted to the network from smartphones and mobile devices must go through packet switching procedures.

While the LTE packet switching was able to handle 20Gb data per second, the new technology is able to process 200Gb per second.

The latest development paves the way for faster and more stable processing of data ahead of the imminent commercialization of the 5G network, it said.

Apple to Release iPhone X in S. Korea Earlier Than Expected

ABD teknoloji devi Apple Inc. Çarşamba günü yaptığı açıklamada, görünüşe göre iPhone 8'in performansının durgunluğundan ötürü – beklenenden daha erken--24 Kasım'da Güney Kore'de iPhone X akıllı telefonun satışına başlayacağını açıkladı.

Endüstri gözlemcileri Aralık ayında gerçekleşmesi beklenildiği gibi için bu çıkış haberi sürpriz oldu.

Ancak, tam teşekküllü satışlar sınırlı ürün olması yüzünden ancak gelecek yıl başlayabilir. 256 GB'lık versiyonun 1,63 milyona mal olacakken, 64 GB’lık kilitsiz bir iPhone X'in 1,42 milyon won (1,274 ABD doları) olacak.

U.S. tech giant Apple Inc. said Wednesday it will begin sales of the iPhone X smartphone in South Korea on Nov. 24 -- earlier than expected -- apparently due to the sluggish performance of the iPhone 8 here.

The release came as a surprise, as industry watchers expected the release to take place in December.

But full-fledged sales may only begin next year due to limited supplies. The price of an unlocked 64-GB iPhone X will be 1.42 million won (US$1,274) here, while the 256-GB version will cost 1.63 million won.

The faster than expected release apparently came as the iPhone 8, which hit South Korean shelves this month, suffers from lackluster sales, industry watchers said.

The U.S. tech giant is presumed to have sold 140,000 units of the iPhone 8 smartphones here in the two days after its official release Friday, with preorders amounting to just 60-70 percent of those posted by the iPhone 7.

Some of Apple fans in South Korea have been awaiting the iPhone X, which is equipped with new features such as Face ID and an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display. Global sales of the iPhone X started last week.

"It seems that Apple pushed forward the release of the iPhone X to take advantage of the supply shortage as a marketing strategy," an official from a local mobile carrier said.

Actozsoft to Hold E-Sports Competition at G-Star

Geniş bir bilgisayar ve mobil oyunlar sergileyen ve sanal gerçeklik teknolojisine odaklanan G-Star Global Oyun Sergisi, güney liman şehri Busan'da dört günlük bir maraton için 16 Kasım'da başlayacak.

İlk Dünya Elektronik Spor Oyunları ve Ligleri (WEGL), 12 ülkeden 120 oyuncuya rol verecek. Nihai ödül 200 milyon won (US $ 179,000) olarak belirlendi.

Mid-sized South Korean game company Actozsoft said Wednesday that it will hold an e-Sports league during the country's largest computing game expo, which is slated for later this month.

The G-Star Global Game Exhibition, which showcases a wide range of computer and mobile games and focuses on virtual reality technology, will kick off Nov. 16 for a four-day run in the southern port city of Busan.

The first World Esports Games and Leagues (WEGL) will feature 120 players from 12 countries. The final prize has been set at 200 million won (US$179,000).

WEGL is the first global e-Sports competition with the aim of creating a healthy game culture and building up the industry as a whole. The competition includes 12 mega-hit online games, including team-based multiplayer online first-person game Overwatch and popular real-time strategy video game Starcraft.

"WEGL will lead to a grand finale at G-star," CEO Guo Haibin told reporters in Seoul, noting that visitors will be able to enjoy something different through WEGL.

iPhone X Parts Estimated at US$370: IHS Markit

Bir endüstri takipçisi Perşembe günü yaptığı açıklamada, ABD teknoloji devi olan Apple Inc.'in 64 GB iPhone X'in bir adetinin üretilmesi için kullanılan malzemelerin toplam maliyetinin 370 ABD Doları olmasının beklendiğini söyledi.

IHS Markit, "iPhone X şimdiye kadarki en pahalı iPhone'dur ve benzersiz amiral gemisi telefonlarının en yüksek perakende fiyat etiketine sahiptir ve akıllı telefon endüstrisini tamamen yeni bir fiyat noktasına götürüyor" dedi.

The combined cost of materials used to produce one unit of U.S. tech giant Apple Inc.'s 64 GB iPhone X is estimated at US$370, an industry tracker said Thursday.

"The iPhone X is the most expensive iPhone ever made, and it has the highest retail price tag of comparable flagship phones, catapulting the smartphone industry to an entirely new price point," IHS Markit said.

"The X's superior screen and TrueDepth sensing set the phone apart and contribute to its higher cost," it added.
The 64 GB iPhone X was released in the United States with a price tag of $999. The device is expected to be launched at 1.42 million won ($1,274) in South Korea later this month.

IHS Markit said the bill of materials for the 64 GB version of Samsung Electronics Co.'s Galaxy S8 was estimated at $302, compared to its retail price of around $720.

iPhone 8 With Swelling Battery Reported in S. Korea

A South Korean smartphone retailer on Thursday reported that a new iPhone 8 smartphone produced by U.S. tech giant Apple Inc. was found to have a seemingly swollen battery, causing concerns about safety.

There have been a number of reports related to battery-swelling problems surrounding Apple's new flagship smartphone since its global release in September. The iPhone 8 was launched in the South Korean market earlier this month.

"We found that a battery was swollen after opening a new product," a retailer from South Korea's southern port city of Busan said. The product of concern was a gold-colored 64 GB iPhone 8.

It marks the first time that the battery problem has been found in South Korea.

Last year, Samsung Electronics Co. suspended production of the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone due to reports of its battery catching fire around the globe.

Four Aftershocks Detected in Pohang Early Sunday

Pohang'da Pazar'ın Erken Saatlerinde Dört Sarsıntı Saptandı

Kuzey Gyeongsang Eyaletinin güneydoğusundaki Pohang kentinde meydana gelen dört sarsıntı kaygısı 5.4' büyüklüğündeki bir depremle şehri sarsılmasından dört gün sonra Pazar sabahı yeniden sarsıntı yaşandı.

Kore Meteoroloji İdaresi'ne göre, depremler Pazarın erken saatlerinde şehrin kuzeyinde meydana geldi ve iki ile 2.4 büyüklükleri arasında ölçüldü.

Hava idaresi, depremlerin kenti Çarşamba günü erken saatlerde sallayan 5.4 büyüklüğündeki depremin artçı sarsıntıları olduğunu değerlendirdi.

Ajans, Pazar gününden bu yana toplam 56 artçı sarsıntı yaşandığını tahmin ediyor.

Four minor aftershocks struck the southeastern city of Pohang in North Gyeongsang Province on Sunday, four days after a five-point-four magnitude quake jolted the city.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the quakes occurred north of the city early on Sunday, measured between two and two-point-four magnitude.

The weather agency assessed that the quakes were aftershocks of the five-point-four magnitude earthquake that rattled the city earlier on Wednesday.

The agency estimated that a total of 56 aftershocks occurred as of Sunday.
