Polisin verdigi bilgiye göre Kore sinemasinin büyük oyuncularindan olan aktör sali günü, kiralik olan küçük dairesinde bariz bir intihar sonucu ölmüs olarak bulundu.

1970'li yillarda altin çaglarini yasayan 64 yasindaki aktör Kim Choo-ryun, Seoul'ün 449 km güneydogusunda bulunan dairesinde asili olarak bulundu.

Senior actor found dead in apparent suicide

A senior South Korean actor was found dead in his small rented room on Tuesday of an apparent suicide, police said.

Kim Choo-ryun, a 64-year-old actor who had his heyday in the 1970s, was found hanging in his studio in Gimhae, 449 kilometers southeast of Seoul, the police said.

Dünyanin Yeni Yedi Harikasindan Biri Jeju:

Jeju Adasi, Güney Kore, Kasim 12 (Yonhap) - Güney Kore’nin güney tatil adasi Jeju dünya çapinda yapilan bir anket sonucunda, dünyanin yeni yedi dogal harikasindan biri olarak seçildigi Isviçre merkezli bir organizasyon tarafindan Cumartesi günü açiklandi.

Kore Yarimadasi'nin güney kiyilarina 130 kilometre uzaklikta bulunan subtropikal volkanik ada, Brezilya'nin Amazon bölgesi, Vietnam Halong Körfezi ile birlikte seçildi. Arjantin'in Iguazu Selalesi, Endonezya'nin Komodo Ulusal Parki, Filipinler ve Güney Afrika Table Mountain Puerto Princesa Yeralti Nehri de Zürih’teki merkez tarafindan “Dünyanin Yedi Yeni Harikasi” olarak belirlendi.

Jeju Adasi, 2007 yilinda Isviçre merkezli kar turizmi amaci gütmeyen kurulus tarafindan baslatilan projede, diger 27 dogal olusuma karsi yarisiyordu.

“New7Wonders”i seçmek için oylama Cuma günü alinan son oyu ile tamamlandi. Oylama, internet ve telefon ile 2009 yilinin Temmuz ayinda baslamisti.

Jeju Island chosen among 'New7Wonders of Nature' :

JEJU ISLAND, South Korea, Nov. 12 (Yonhap) -- The southern South Korean resort island of Jeju has been named as one of the new seven natural wonders of the world in a worldwide poll, a Switzerland-based organization announced Saturday.

The subtropical volcanic island, located 130 kilometers off the southern coast of the Korean Peninsula, was selected along with Brazil's Amazon region, Halong Bay in Vietnam, Argentina's Iguazu Falls, Indonesia's Komodo National Park, the Puerto Princesa Underground River in the Philippines and South Africa's Table Mountain, according to the New7Wonders foundation in Zurich.

Jeju Island had been vying against 27 other natural sites in a project initiated by the Switzerland-based nonprofit organization in 2007.

Eight crewmen missing from sunken fishing ship

Eight crewmen are missing from a fishing ship that sank after colliding with a larger freighter in early hours Saturday, the Korea Coast Guard said.

The 59-ton fishing ship crashed into the 2,116-ton vessel operated by Hanjin Transportation around 2:15 a.m. in the waters off Taean, South Chungcheong Province, causing eight out of the nine crewmen aboard the smaller ship to go missing.

Two S.Korean Climbers Fall to Death in the Himalayas

Kore Alpine Federasyonu ve sponsor firma, Cumartesi günü yaptigi açiklamada, iki Güney Koreli dagcinin Cuma günü ögleden sonra Nepalese Himalayalar'inda, Cholatse Dagi'nin kuzey yüzüne tirmanmaya çalisirken öldürüldügünü söyledi.

Tirmanicinin sirketi ve bir spor giyim markasi olan sponsoru K2 Extreme Ekibi'nin lideri Kim Hyeong-il ve ekibin üyesi Jang Ji-myeong'un Cuma günü ögleden sonra alti bin 440 metrelik bir daga tirmanmaya çalisirken ölümlerine düstügünü söyledi.

Ayni gün, ekibin diger iki üyesinin kaldiklari ana kampta cesetleri bulundu. Ana kamp, bes bin metrelik deniz seviyesinden dört bin 500 metre mesafede.

Annapurna Dagi'nda Ekim ayinda kaybolan Park Yeong-seok da dahil olmak üzere üç dagciyi bulmak ve arama kurtarma çalismalarinin ilk turuna katilmak üzere iki ölen dagci Mt. Cholatse'nin kendi onayi ertelendi.

The Korean Alpine Federation and a sponsor company said Saturday that two South Korean mountaineers were killed on Friday afternoon while trying to scale the north face of Mount Cholatse in the Nepalese Himalayas.

The climber's association and sponsor K2, a sportswear brand, said the leader of the K2 Extreme Team Kim Hyeong-il and team member Jang Ji-myeong fell to their deaths on Friday afternoon while attempting to climb the six-thousand-440-meter mountain.

Two other members of the team who had remained at the base camp recovered their bodies on the same day. The base camp is four-thousand-500-meters to five thousand meters above sea level.

The two deceased climbers had postponed their assent of Mt. Cholatse to participate in the first round of search and rescue efforts to find three mountaineers, including Park Yeong-seok, who had gone missing in October while scaling Mount Annapurna.

Hyundai's union boycotts extra weekend work shift

Unionists at Hyundai, South Korea's largest carmaker, said Saturday they will boycott extra shifts over the weekend so they can participate in a rally.

The union said that its workers will show up for the national workers rally in Seoul scheduled for Saturday and Sunday that has been organized by the Korean Metal Workers' Union.

Samho Jewelry isimli yük gemisinin kaptani Seok Hae-kyun, 14 Kasim 2011 tarihinde liman sehri Busan'da bulunan Namhae Polis Ajansi'nda verdigi özel konferans sirasinda Somalili korsanlar tarafindan kaçirilirken yasadiklarini anlatti.

58 yasindaki kaptan ve geminin mürettebat üyeleri 15 Ocak tarihinde Somalili korsanlar tarafindan kaçirilmisti. Birkaç gün sonra da Güney Kore Özel Deniz Kuvvetleri tarafindan düzenlenen ve sekiz korsanin ölümüne yol açan bir operasyon sayesinde kurtarilmislardi. Seok ise, operasyon esnasinda korsanlardan yedigi kursunlar dolayisiyla agir darbeler alarak birçok operatif müdahaleye maruz kalmisti.

Freighter captain spoke on his hijacking

Seok Hae-kyun, the captain of the freighter Samho Jewelry, spoke about his experience of being captured by Somali pirates in a special lecture at the Namhae Police Agency in the port city of Busan on Nov. 14, 2011.

The 58-year-old skipper and his crew members were hijacked by Somali pirates on Jan. 15. They were rescued a few days later by South Korean naval special forces in a raid that killed eight hijackers. Seok underwent several surgical procedures after being shot by the pirates during the raid.

Ulusal Acil Durum Koordine Ajansi'nin açiklamalarina göre, yapilan tatbikat, kis aylarinda bariz sekilde artis yasandigi gözlenen elektrik harcamalari nedeniyle tüm ulusun elektriklerinin kesilmesi seklinde bir senaryoya dayaliydi.

Tatbikat esnasinda saat 14 civarinda ülkenin dört bir yayinda alarm sesleri duyuldu ve bunun üzerine evde ve is yerinde bulunan tüm vatandaslardan gereksiz yere enerji harcayan tüm aletleri kapatmalari istendi.

Nationwide Drill Held to Prepare for Blackouts

A nationwide drill was held on Tuesday in preparation of large-scale blackouts.

The National Emergency Management Agency said the drill was based on a scenario where blackouts occur across the country due to an energy shortage stemming from a sharp rise in electricity demand during winter.

An alarm went off at 2 p.m. to signal the beginning of the drill. In the next 20 minutes, all citizens at home and work were required to turn off all unnecessary power

Change in Patriarchal Culture Needed to Improve Birth Rate

Yeni bir rapora göre ülke, dünyada en düsük olanlar arasinda bulunan dogum oranini artirmak için ataerkil kültürden vazgeçmeli.

Kore Kalkinma Enstitüsü arastirmacisi Kim Yeong-cheol tarafindan hazirlanan bir rapora göre dogum oraninin azligi evlenmeyen kadinlarin yüzdesindeki artisla iliskilendirilebilir. 35 ile 39 yaslari arasindaki evlenmemis kadinlar 2000 yilinda tüm kadinlarin %4.3'ünü olusturuyordu. Bu sayi geçen yildan bu yana %12.6'ya, üç katina çikti.

Kim, bekar kadinlarin artan sayisinin, es seçerken erkeklerin para kazanmasina önem veren ataerkil kültürden, çalisan kadinlarin evlilik ve dogumdaki dezavantajlarindan ve evlenmenin muazzam masraflarindan kaynaklandigini söyledi.

Rapora göre Avrupa ülkeleri de yarim asir önce benzer bir durumdan geçti ve düsük dogum oranini, sosyokültürel degisikliklerin göz önünde bulunduruldugu yasal koruma mekanizmalariyla asti. Ailesi olan çalisan kadinlara izin verme ve gayrimesru çocuklari koruma bunlar içinde yer aliyordu.

A new report says the nation must shake off its patriarchal culture in order to increase the nation’s birth rate, which is among the lowest in the world.

A report by Korea Development Institute researcher Kim Yeong-cheol says the low birth rate is mainly attributable to an increase in the percentage of women who do not marry. Unmarried women between the ages of 35 and 39 accounted for four-point-three-percent of all women in the year 2000. This number has tripled to 12-point-six-percent since last year.

Kim said the rising number of single women stem from a patriarchal culture that places an importance on the earning power of men when choosing spouses, the disadvantage posed by marriage and childbirth on working women, and the massive costs of getting married.

The report said that European nations went through similar circumstances half a century ago and overcame the issue of low birth rates using legal protection mechanisms that considered socio-cultural changes. They included making allowances for working women with families and protecting births out of wedlock.
