Int'l cultural event at S. Korean a university

Güney Kore'deki Bir Üniversite'de de Uluslararasi Kültürel Etkinlik

Bir grup Ispanyol ögrenci, 3 Kasim 2011 tarihinde Seoul'ün hemen güneyinde bulunan Suwon sehrindeki Ajou Üniversite'sinde uluslararasi bir kültürel etkinlik gerçeklestirdi. 45 ülkeden 640 yabanci ögrenci, üniversite tarafindan düzenlenen etkinlik sirasinda, kendi ülkelerinden gelen gida, kostümler ve danslar sergiledi.

Üniversiteler, Harçlari Yükseltmek Için Hesaplarla Oynadiklari Gerekçesiyle Topa Tutuluyor

Devlet denetim ofisinin bugün verdigi bilgiye göre Güney Kore'deki özel ve devlet üniversiteleri, ögrenci harçlarinin artmasina neden olacak sekilde hesap kayitlari ile oynamaya kalkisti.

Içerisinde 9 adet devlet enstitüsünün de bulundugu rastgele seçilen 35 üniversitede inceleme yapilmasinin ardindan Teftis ve Inceleme Kurulu enstitülerin, harçlarda yasanan abartili artislari düzene sokmak için yaklasik 5 yildir sürekli olarak (aliskanlikla) hesap kayitlariyla oynadigini belirtti.

Universities come under fire for doctoring accounting books to hike tuitions

Private and public universities in South Korea have engaged in creative accounting practices resulting in excessive hikes in tuition fees, the state audit agency said Thursday.

Wrapping up an investigation into 35 randomly chosen universities, including nine public institutions, the Board of Audit and Inspection (BAI) said the institutions had habitually manipulated their accounting books over the past five years to justify steep rises in tuition expenses.

College Entrance Exam Forms in Transit

Kolej Giris Sinavi Formlari Geçiste

Egitim, Bilim ve Teknoloji Bakanligi, bu persembe her yil devlet tarafindan uygulanan Kolej Skolastik Yetenek Sinavi'nin öncesinde, test kagitlari kitapçiklarini ve cevap kagitlarini dagitmaya basladi.

Bakanlik, Pazartesi günü ülke genelinde 84 bölgeye formlari gönderdi. 693 bin basvuranlardan bazilari, ülke genelinde yaklasik 12-yüz sitede Persembe günü üniversite giris sinavina kabul edilecek. Basvuru sayisi, bir yil öncekinden yaklasik 18 bin düstü.

Bakanlik, sinav ve cevap kagitlarinin dagitiminin polis korumalariyla dagitim kamyonlari tarafindan Çarsamba gününe kadar tamamlanmis olacagini söyledi.

The Education, Science and Technology Ministry has begun to distribute test papers and answer sheets ahead of the annual state-administered College Scholastic Ability Test this Thursday.

The ministry on Monday sent the forms to 84 zones across the nation. Some 693-thousand applicants will take the college entrance exam on Thursday at roughly 12-hundred sites nationwide. The number of applicants has fallen by about 18-thousand from a year ago.

The ministry said the distribution of exam and answer sheets by delivery trucks with police escorts will be completed by Wednesday.

'College Entrance Exam Made Easier This Year"

'Kolej Giris Sinavi Bu Yil Daha da Kolaylasti"

Devlet idaresindeki Kolej Skolastik Yetenek Sinavi sorularinin olusturulmasindan sorumlu komite, bu yilki sinav sorularinin, son yillara göre daha kolay oldugunu söylüyor.

Persembe günü, komite baskani Profesör Lee Heung-soo, merkezi hükümet kompleksindeki bir basin toplantisinda, sinav yazarlarinin, basvuran kisilerin mükemmel bir puan elde etme sayisinin her test kategorisinde yaklasik yüzde bir olmasi için ellerinden geleni yaptiklarini söyledi.

Geçen yil, mükemmel puan alan basvuru sahiplerinin yüzdeleri, Kore dili bölümünde yüzde sifir nokta 6, matematikte yüzde sifir nokta 2, ve yabanci dilde yüzde sifir nokta 21 olarak düstü.

Lee, sorularin yüzde 70'den fazlasinin Egitim Yayin Sistemi (EBS) tarafindan kullanilan kilavuz kitaplarindakilerle benzer oldugunu ekledi.

The committee in charge of devising questions for the state-administered College Scholastic Ability Test says this year's exam questions were made easier than last years.

At a news conference at the central government complex Thursday, committee head Professor Lee Heung-soo said the exam writers tried their best to ensure the number of applicants who get a perfect score will be about one percent in each test category.

Last year, the percent of applicants who received a perfect score was as low as zero-point-06 percent in the Korean language section, zero-point-02 percent in math, and zero-point-21 percent in foreign language.

Lee added that more than 70 percent of the questions were similar to those in guide books used by the Educational Broadcasting System (EBS).

Çok Kültürlü Ögrenciler Için Seoul'de Ilk Alternatif Okul Açiliyor

Yerel egitim merkezinin Sali günü verdigi bilgiye göre önümüzdeki yil Seoul'de, çok kültürlü ailelerden gelen ögrenciler için Güney kore'nin ilk alternatif ilkokulu açilacak.

Seoul Egitim Merkezi, yaklasik 20 yildir Güney Kore'de göçmen isçiler ile çalismakta olan Kim Hae-sung tarafindan kurulan "School of Global Sarang" (Dünya Sevgi Okulu) için lisans verilmesinin onaylandigini belirtti. "Sarang", Korece'de "sevgi" anlamina geliyor.

First alternative school to open in Seoul for multicultural students

South Korea's first alternative elementary school for children from multicultural families will open in Seoul next year with flexible programs centered on cultural and language courses, the local education office said Tuesday.

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education said it has approved the license for the School of Global Sarang, founded by Rev. Kim Hae-sung, who has worked with migrant workers in South Korea over the last two decades. "Sarang" means love in Korean.

Middle, High Schools to Overhaul Grading System

Orta ve Yüksek Okullar Not Sistemini Düzenliyor

Degisim, orta ve yüksek okullarda bir ögrencinin bireysel performansinin daha büyük önemli bir siniflandirma sistemi içinde yer almistir.

Egitim Bakanligi, Sali günü performansa dayali ögrenci degerlendirmelerinin tanitimini içeren, orta ve yüksek okullarda egitim-ögretim islerinin yönetimini modernlestirmek için bir dizi tedbir alindigini açikladi.

Bugünlerde ögrenciler, akranlari için göreli bir karsilastirmali degerlendirmeye göre siniflandirildi ve dokuz farkli sinif gruplari halinde kategorize edilmistir.

Bu siralama sistemi, çöpe atilacak ve ögrenciler, yeni sistem altinda A'dan E'ye bes seviyeden basari kazanacak.

Yeni sistem, 2014 yilinin ilk döneminden bunu uygulamak amaci ile, gelecek yildan itibaren, deneme amaçli olarak çalisacaktir.

A shift has taken place in the grading system at middle and high schools that will place a greater emphasis on a student’s individual performance.

The Education Ministry on Tuesday announced a set of measures to modernize the academic affairs management at middle and high schools, which includes the introduction of performance-based student assessment.

Currently students are graded based on a comparative assessment relative to their peers and categorized into nine different grade groups. This ranking system will be scrapped and students will scored in five levels from A to E under the new system.

The new system will be run on a trial basis from next year with the intent to implement it from the first semester of 2014.

Schools to Keep Student Records of Violence, Bullying

Okullar, Ögrencilerin Siddet Kayitlarini Tutacak

Ülkedeki bir dizi zorbalik olayinin ardindan, artik okullar siddet kayitlari tutacaklar.

Egitim bakani Lee Ju-ho pazar günü KBS'de, zorbalikla suçlanan ilkögretim ve lise ögrencilerinin kayitlarinin okullarda tutulacagini ve mezuniyetten 5 yil sonrasina kadar atilmayacagini söyledi. Lise ögrencileri için kayitlar, ögrenciler mezun olduktan sonra 10 yil saklanacak.

Kayitlar, giris izni yetkisiyle üniversite yetkililerine açik hale getirilecek.

Egitim Bakanligi, önümüzdeki ay itibariyla okul kayitlari için düzenlemeleri uygulamaya koyacak.

Schools will now keep records of school violence after a string of bullying incidents in the nation.

Education Minister Lee Ju-ho said on KBS on Sunday that records of elementary and junior high school students with bullying allegations will be kept at schools, and the records will not be discarded until 5 years after graduation. For high school students, the records will be stored for a decade after the students graduate.

The records will be made accessible to university officials in charge of admissions.

The education ministry is set to amend instructions for school records by next month.
