Çocuklar Günü İçin Eğlence ve Oyunlar: Çocuklar İçin Eğlence



Mayısın gelmesiyle, ailelerimizle dışarı çıkıp eğlenmenin vakti geldi. Bugün Çocuklar Günü olduğundan eğlenecek çok sayıda etkinlik olacaktır.

Pek çok kişi, gezinti için yakınlardaki bir parka gitmeyi, kimi de hız trenine binmek için lunaparklara gitmeyi düşünürken farklı bir şeyler arayan ve aynı zamanda kalabalıktan kaçmayı isteyen aileler için pek çok başka seçenek de var.

Seoul Masal Festivali

Çocuklar aynı zamanda ünlü masal yazarlarıyla konuşabilecekleri ve kendi masal kitaplarını oluşturabilecekleri interaktif programlara da katılabilecekler. Marketlerde çeşitli masal kitapları ve çizimler satılacak ve bu gece parkta aileler için uygun olan bir film gösterilecek.

Yeni festival, 2 yıllık çalışma sonucu ortaya çıktı ve ABD, Japonya, Çin ve Malezya’dan uluslararası bilim adamları da dahil masal uzmanları tarafından detaylı olarak planlandı.

Masal yazarları da dahil 250’den fazla kişi, aileler için akademik dersler, gösteriler, sergiler gibi toplam 70 program oluşturmak için 200 milyon wonluk bütçeyle sıkı bir çalışma gösterdiler.

Kimi Gwanjin Meydanında yer alsa da parkta pek çok etkinlik düzenlenecek. En erken 10.00’da başlamak üzere her bir programın kendi çalışma saati bulunuyor.

Seoul Metropolit Yönetimi yetkilileri, 500.000’den fazla ziyaretçi olmasını bekliyor ve bu kalabalık nedeniyle giriş çıkışlarda en kolay yol olarak toplu taşımaların kullanılmasını öneriyor. En yakın metro istasyonu, 7. Hat üzerindeki Büyük Çocuk Parkı.

Imjingak Çocuk Festivali

Askersiz Bölge turlarıyla Kuzey Kore sınırına giden ziyaretçilerin uğrak yeri olan Gyeonggi, Paju’daki Imjingak Parkında, 5. yılına giren büyük bir çocuk festivali olacak.

Imjingak Çocuk Festivali, Çocuklar Gününde düzenlenen Kore’deki en büyük ücretsiz etkinlik ve organizatörlere göre geçen yıl 120,000 ziyaretçi etkinliğe katıldı.

Bugün ziyaretçiler, askeri bir tören ve tekvando gösterisinin yanı sıra sevilen çocuk müzikali “Pinokyo”yu da izleyebilirler. Yarın programa çocuk müziği konserleri hakim ve etkinliğin olacağı yerde halk müziği çalınacak.

Diğer programlar arasında, etkin hizmet veren itfaiyecilerin yapacağı yangın güvenlik eğitimi, kartpostal yazımı ve çocuk pazarı yer alıyor.

Festival sırasında turizm yetkilileri, eyalete daha fazla turist çekmek amacıyla Gyeonggi’deki 31 şehir ve ilçe hakkında bilgi sağlayacak tanıtım sergileri kuracaklar. Ön planda olması beklenen bir etkinlik, Ekim ayında düzenlenecek olan Ansan’daki 2012 Gyeonggi Küresel Havacılık Etkinliği.

Tarih meraklıları, ülkenin her yanında çeşitli etkinliklerde çocukları için yapılan sunumların tadını çıkarabilirler.

Icheon Seramik Festivali

Gyeonggi, Icheon’daki Seramik Festivali, Kore’deki en popüler seramik festivallerinden biri. Her yıl düzenlenen bu etkinliği 1987’den bu yana 26.7 milyon kişi ziyaret etti. Etkinlik bu yıl Seolbong Parkı ve Seramik Köyünde 28 Nisan’da başladı ve 20 Mayıs’a dek sürecek.

Bu yılki festivalde “Seramik, Paylaşma ve Rahatlama” teması altında 4 sergi ve 8 deney programı bulunuyor.

Yetişkinler, 16 seramik uzmanının tasarladığı özel sergileri görürken çocuklar kille oynayıp seramik yapabilirler.

Bu yıl yetişkinler için festival ücreti 5000 won fakat organizatörler, festivale katılanlara indirimli fiyata sunulan seramik eserlerinin alınmasını teşvik için her bir ziyaretçiye festival kuponu şeklinde 3000 wonu geri verecek.

Hadong İlçesi Yabani Çay Festivali

Hadong İlçesi, Gyeongsang’da çayın tarihi gerçekleriyle dolu bir yabani çay festivali düzenliyor.

Festival, Hwagae-myeon ve Akyang-myeon bölgelerinde yapılacak ve yarına dek sürecek. Uygulamalı programlar, çocukların çay yaprakları toplayıp kendi çaylarını yapmalarına imkan verecek. Görgü kuralları eğitimcileri de çocuklara resmi yerlerde çaylarını nasıl düzgünce içebileceklerini öğretecekler.

Festival programı yetişkinler için, rehberlerle çay tarlaları turlarının yanı sıra Kore’deki farklı bölgelerde yetişen çayların tadılmasını içeriyor. Planlanan etkinlikler dışında, bölgedeki Sumjin Nehrinin manzarası kaçırılmamalı.

Çocuklar Günü’nü çocuklar için bir öğrenme deneyimine çevirmeyi isteyen anne-babalar için kesinlikle bir seçenek kısıtlaması yok.

Paju Kitap Şehri

Kitapseverler, Jayu Metrosu yakınlarında yaklaşık 250 yayın şirketi bulunduran, Seoul’den 30 km (18 mil) uzaklıkta yer alan Paju Kitap Şehrine göz atmalı.

Bölgedeki Çocuk Kitapları Festivali, geçtiğimiz 9 yıldır her yıl ortalama 120.000 çocuk edebiyatı hayranının rağbet ettiği bu türde Kore’deki en büyük etkinlik.

Bu yıl 10. yıl dönümü kutlandığından etkinlik 200 yayıncı ve ilgili organizatörün katılımıyla her zamankinden daha büyük ve ilginç olacak. Yarına kadar sürecek. WOW Çocuk Kitapları Festivali

Batı Seoul’de, Mapo Bölgesindeki Hongik Üniversitesi yakınlarındaki süslü sokaklarda WOW Çocuk Kitapları Festivali adlı yeni bir etkinlik yapılacak. Daha önce “WOW Kitap Festivalini” düzenleyen WOW Kitap, Kültür ve Sanat Merkezi bu etkinliğe ev sahipliği yapacak.

Paju Kitap Şehri kadar büyük değil ancak festival sırasında 50’den fazla program sunmak için yaklaşık 40 yayın şirketi; 20 sanatçı ve yazara eşlik edecek. Programlar arasında sergiler, pantomimler ve başka gösteriler de yer alıyor.

2012 Seoul Dostluk Fuarı

Taean Çiçek Festivali

Güney Chungcheong, Taean Bölgesindeki Doğa Dünyası yakınlarında 2012 Taean Çiçek Festivali, bir milyondan fazla, açmış rengarenk laleyle en cıvıltılı döneminde.

2012 Goyang Uluslararası Bahçıvanlık Festivali

2012 Goyang Uluslar arası Bahçıvanlık Festivali, pek çok çeşit çiçeği bir arada görmek için ziyaret edilmesi gereken etkinlik.

Fun and games for Children’s Day:Fun for kids



With May upon us, it’s time to head outside and enjoy the sunshine with our families. And since today is Children’s Day, there will be an especially large number of activities to enjoy.

While many will think about going to amusement parks to ride roller coasters or simply heading to a nearby park for a stroll, there are many other options for families looking to try something a little different and avoid the crowds at the same time.

Almost every city and county in the country will hold special events for Children’s Day, so just a little bit of research can go a long way in figuring out which festivals would be most interesting for your family.
Sometimes kids just want to have fun, and there will be plenty to do if you’re just looking for a relaxing time with your little ones.

Seoul Fairy Tale Festival

What would be more suitable than taking your children to Seoul Children’s Grand Park on Children’s Day? And this year, the very first Seoul Fairy Tale Festival will be waiting on the park’s Lawn Square .

The content of the festival is diverse. Visitors can see performances of fairy tales from all over the world that include narrations by their authors and other high-profile figures. Today, the cast from KBS2’s hit entertainment show “Chat with Beauties,” where foreigners talk about Korea, will narrate fairy tales.

There will also be a taekwondo performance, a bubble show and songs presented by the Little Angels Children’s Choir.

A one-hour parade starts at 2 p.m. today in which dancing teams from Hawaii, Spain and Russia will move from the park’s main gate to Fountain Square and then Lawn Square.

On Sunday, about 10 Santa Clauses will give away free gifts at three separate times (12 p.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.) as part of an event called “Christmas in May.”

Children will also be able to take part in an interactive program in which they can create their own fairy tale books and talk with famous fairy tale authors. Markets will sell various fairy tale books and artwork, and tonight, a family-friendly movie will be shown in the park.

The new festival is the product of two years’ work and has been planned in detail by fairy tale experts, including international scholars from the United States, Japan, China and Malaysia.

More than 250 people, including authors of fairy tales, have closely worked with a budget of 200 million won ($176,800) to create a total of 70 programs, including exhibitions, performances and academic lectures for parents.

Many events will be held inside the park, though some are located in Gwanjin Square, which is outdoors.Each program has its own operating hours, with the earliest staring at 10 a.m.

Officials from the Seoul Metropolitan Government expect that more than 500,000 people will visit and recommend using public transportation as the easiest way to get in and out because of the anticipated crowds. The nearby subway station is Grand Children’s Park on Line 7.

Imjingak Children’s Festival

At Imjingak park in Paju, Gyeonggi, that typically attracts visitors headed to the North Korean border on tours of the Demilitarized Zone, there will be a large children’s festival that is now entering its fifth year.

The Imjingak Children’s Festival is the largest free event in Korea that takes places on Children’s Day, and last year, it drew 120,000 visitors, according to organizers.

Today, visitors can enjoy the hit children’s musical “Pinocchio” along with a military parade and a taekwondo performance. Tomorrow, concerts of children’s music dominate the schedule and folk music will play throughout the venue.

Other programs include fire safety training by active-duty firefighters, postcard writing and a children’s bazaar.

During the festival, tourism officials will be on hand at promotion booths to provide information about 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi in hopes of attracting more tourists to the province. One event expected to be in the spotlight is the 2012 Gyeonggi Global Aviation in Ansan, which is planned for October.

Icheon Ceramics Festival

The Ceramics Festival in Icheon, Gyeonggi is one of the most popular ceramic festivals in Korea. Since 1987, 26.7 million people have visited this annual event. This year, it opened on April 28 and will run until May 20 at Seolbong Park and Ceramic Village.

Under the theme “Ceramics, Sharing and Relaxation,” there are four exhibitions and eight experimental programs in this year’s festival.

Children can play with clay and making ceramics while adults can watch the special exhibitions designed by 16 masters of ceramics.

This year, the festival costs 5,000 won for adults, but organizers return 3,000 won to each visitor in the form of a festival coupon to encourage buying ceramic works that will be offered at discounted prices to festival participants.

Hadong County Wild Tea Festival

In Gyeongsang, Hadong County has been holding a wild tea festival full of historical facts about tea.

The festival takes place in the areas of Hwagae-myeon and Akyang-myeon and goes until tomorrow. Hands-on programs allow children to pick tea leaves and make their own tea. Etiquette instructors will also teach children how to properly enjoy tea in formal settings.

For adults, the festival’s schedule includes tastings of teas from various regions in Korea as well as guided tours of tea fields. Outside of the planned events, the view of Sumjin River in the area simply should not be missed.

For all of its planned activities, Hadong County’s tea event has been picked as one of the most impressive festivals in Korea for four consecutive years by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

For parents hoping to turn Children’s Day weekend into a true learning experience for the kids, there is certainly no shortage of options.

Paju Book City

Book lovers should be sure to check out Paju Book City, a complex located 30 kilometers (18 miles) from Seoul that houses roughly 250 publishing companies near the Jayu Highway.

The Children’s Book Festival in this community is the largest event of its kind in Korea, drawing an average of 120,000 fans of children’s literature each year for the last nine years.

As it is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the event is sure to be bigger and more interesting than ever, with some 200 publishers and related organizations participating. It will run until tomorrow. At the event, about 50 publishers will introduce new books that will be available at discounted prices, while programs like the Tent Film Festival will show child-friendly movies in a tent.

Children can also make their own books, participate in an on-site writing competition or partake in tours of buildings belonging to the resident publishing companies.

WOW Children’s Book Festival

This year, there will also be a new event called WOW Children’s Book Festival along the artsy streets near Hongik University in Mapo District, western Seoul. It is hosted by the WOW Book Culture and Art Center that previously ran the “WOW Book Festival.”

It’s not quite as big as Paju Book City, but some 40 publishing companies will join 20 artists and writers to present more than 50 programs during the festival. There are exhibitions, mimes and other performances on the schedule.

Visitors can also turn into book sellers themselves by bringing used books and mat to set up shop. Each participant must donate at least two books, which will be used to set up study rooms or donated to the disadvantaged. For more information, call (02) 336-1584.

Seoul Friendship Fair 2012

Seoul Friendship Fair 2012 is worth a visit for those hoping to add some international flair to their Children’s Day activities. The festival started in 1996, and this year’s edition will be held at Seoul Square and in Mugyo-dong, central Seoul, from 12 p.m. today to 6 p.m. tomorrow. A total of 59 countries will be represented in various events. Some offer traditional costumes to try on or displays of historical artifacts, while others offer entertainment like dance performances. Yeoncheon Jeongok-ri Site Paleolith Festival

The Yeoncheon Jeongok-ri Site Paleolith Festival in Gyeonggi is the place to go to learn about ancient history. Programs will demonstrate the making of paleolithic tools and ancient barbecuing techniques.

Getting outside of the neighborhood and exploring the beauties of nature can be an exciting adventure for children and parents alike. This year, flower festivals being held nationwide are a good reason to get outside.

Taean Flower Festival

Around Nature World in Taean County, South Chungcheong, the 2012 Taean Flower Festival is in full swing with more than a million colorful tulips in bloom.

For Children’s Day, event organizers offer face painting for free and will give away flower seeds to be planted later by the young visitors. Various magic shows and musical performances are also scheduled for the day alongside lots of exhibition booths.

Now in its fourth year, the flower festival in Taean has themes for the four seasons. After spring (April 22-May 8), which focuses on tulips, it will move to lilies for summer (June 20-July 1) and to dahlias for autumn (Sept. 1 to Oct. 31).

International Horticulture Goyang 2012

To see a wide variety of flowers all in one location, International Horticulture Goyang 2012 is the event to visit.

At Ilsan Lake Park in Goyang, Gyeonggi, 150 companies from 40 countries will join 160 local florists to show off various types of flowers.

A total of 200 million flowers are in bloom across 250,000 square meters (61.8 acres) at the event in what organizers call the International Flower Olympiad.

A wide variety of events supplement the flower displays until the festival closes on May 13.

“Üzgün ve cesaretsizlik sözleriyle dolu ‘ALIVE’ albümü ile olgunlaşmanın acılarını hissettim. ”

G-Dragon son albümden bir yıl gibi daha az bir sürede ‘ALIVE’ albümünü oluşturdu. Yeni albümün konsepti nedir?

“Geçen yıl, hem kişisel hem de gruba çok şey oldu ve ‘Gerçekten sahneye geri dönüş yapabilir miyiz?’ diye düşündüm. O zaman içimde cesaretsizlik duygusuyla, üzüntülü ve dayanılmaz bir lider keşfettim, bundan çok ilham aldım. “Bu şarkı sözlerinde yaşadığım duyguları yansıtmaya çalıştım. ‘ALIVE’ Turu için heyecan çok farklı.

“Sergilenen her sahne ve müzikal performanslar için Amerikalı çalışanların anlatımı tarafından sahne düzenlendi, bunun çok derin bir anlamı var. Sahnede dururken daha sorumlu ve dikkatli hale geldim.”

“Şimdiye kadar ‘neşeli maknae’ imajını değiştirmek istedim, bu nedenle geçen yıldan bu yana araştırmalar yaptım. Sakin bir ortam oluşturmak için konuşmam, ifadelerim ve jestlerim ile ilgilendim. İşe yönelik yarım duygulara sahip olmanın iyi olmadığını düşündüm bu yüzden üniversiteyi bırakmaya karar verdim. Arkadaşlarım ve öğretmenlerimle sorun yaşamak istememem bu kararı vermemin sebebi. Üniversitedeyken pişman olmadığımı söylersem bu bir yalan olurdu... Fakat her zaman gitmek istediğim tanımadan birisiyle buluşma deneyimi yaşadım. Dürüst olmak gerekirse, hiç kalp çarpıntısı yoktu ama bu benim için harika bir anı oldu (güler).”

Konser sırasında VI Japonca MC'lik yaptı ve Japonya kültürüyle gerçekten ilgili.

“Mayıs ayında başlayan tur için şuan Japonya'da popüler olan şeyleri araştırıyorum. Son günlerde ‘Kaseifu no Mita’ dramasından ‘I understand’ hattını hatırlıyorum. Tabiki Japonca çalışmalarıma da devam ediyorum. Bu yıl başladığımdan beri her Japonca dersim için günlük bir saat harcadım. İnsanlar benim sıkı çalışan olduğumu söylüyor, fakat sıkı çalışmanın normal bir şey olduğunu düşünüyorum.”

TOP made a comeback with a shocking mint green hairstyle. What’s your thought for the ‘ALIVE’ album?

“When I wrote the rap lyrics, I was trying my best to do it with honesty and choosing beautiful words. For the Japanese version, I also use gentle words to make sure all listeners regardless of their ages can understand well. For me, this album is the most high quality compared to the other albums. This mint color hair style was decided upon an instinct while producing the album. I confident this hairstyle will match the album concept very well. Changing to this hairstyle, I felt that my characteristic has become more gentle.”

TOP has received a high reputation as an actor and we’re really looking forward for his next project.

“Actually, I’ve prepared for about 3 months for a drama, but unfortunately, I had to let it go… Maybe because of that, lately I’ve become more careful in choosing my next project. I receive many offers for love story dramas but I think it’s still too early for me. My own feeling and habit will naturally show in my acting, so I doubt I can give the right ‘love’ feeling. For now I’s still lacking love experience. But, if I am encountered with a good project, I definitely want to try it.”

“I felt the pains of growing up through the sad and cowardice lyrics that filled the ‘ALIVE’ album.”

G-Dragon has produced the new album ‘ALIVE’ (in) less than a year from the last album. What is the concept of the new release?

“Last year, personally and also as a group many things had happened, and I even thought ‘can we really make a comeback in that state?’. At that time, I discovered the sadness and unbearable lead to the feeling of cowardice in me, and I received many inspirations through it. The album production period was short, but it’s not likely that we can produce a good album even if we put so much time into it. I felt the pain of growing up while producing this album.”

Especially for ‘BAD BOY’ and ‘BLUE’, G-Dragon put his soul in the painful lyrics that goes straight to the listener’s hearts.

“I’m trying so hard to put the feelings that I experienced in the lyrics. There are some parts that I imagined, but the song that I made through my experiences, are more well-received by fans. As for ‘BAD BOY’, the song has the HIP-HOP element, one of the styles that I always wanted to try since long ago. While standing on the stage performing, this song has more power compared to any other song.”

The enthusiasm towards the ‘ALIVE’ Tour is also different.

“The stage arrangement by the American staff has their own narrative, for each stage presented and also the musical performance, it has a deeper meaning. As for me, I became more responsible and became more careful while standing on the stage.”

SOL wants to be accepted as musically incomparable to anyone.

“As for BIG BANG, this album is an epoch-making piece. Up until now, we were too conscious about the trend and after discussing with members, we decided to let out our own personalities lead us”

SOL is the one who leads BIG BANG’s song with his smooth vocal, and talented to collaborate with various artists.

“Since last year, I’ve been preparing for my solo album and I hope it will be released this year. The songs and the image concept have been decided and now I just have to wait for the encounter with the title track.”

This is like something to look forward to, like a treat for fans. What’s the meaning by waiting for a song?

“Lately, I realized that music is not something that you create, it’s something to you meet or come across. If we create it by force, the thought and the color of the song may be different than what we want it to be. I think when we have the inspiration, naturally we can create a music that can touch the people’s hearts.”

As BIG BANG’s spiritual pillar, and also as an artist, SOL is continuing to grow up. What’s your goal in the future?

“I don’t have a solid goal, but I want to be free while expressing my music, through my own song and my own dance. And also, I want to be somebody who can give hope to many people.”

“Now is the time for an image change..This is important for my life from now on.“

Lately, among the members, VI is said to be the one who has changed a lot. So, what’s the reason behind the changes?

“Up until now, I wanted to change the ‘cheerful maknae’ image, so I did some research since last year. For me to be able to create a calm atmosphere, I’ve been paying attention to my way of speaking, my expressions and my gestures. I think it’s not good to have a halfway feeling towards work, so I decided to drop out from my university. I don’t like to trouble my friends and my teachers, that’s why I decided to. It would be a lie if I said that I have no regrets while I’m in university…but I got to experience the blind date that I always wished to go on. Honestly, there were no heart throbbing moment, but it was a great memory for me (laugh).”

During the concert, VI is also doing MC in Japanese and he’s very interested with the popular Japan’s culture.

“As for the tour that starts in May, now, I’m doing research on what’s popular in Japan. Recently, I remember a line ‘I understand’ from the drama ‘Kaseifu no Mita’. And of course, I also continue with my Japanese studies. Since the start of this year, I spend around 1 hour per day for each Japanese lesson. People told me that I’m a hard worker, but I think working hard is just a natural thing to do.”

D-LITE

“The concert was created by a great team, and this is the best so far.“

D-LITE has grown up drastically with his voice quality and physically. On the other side, his cheerful and relaxed aura is still the same as before.

“About my voice, I don’t really do any unusual training. It’s just… last year so many things had happened, and I’m noticing maybe something has changed in me. In the YG building, there’s facilities that allow us to do exercise whenever we want, so I’m able to continuously build up my body. Not only me, the other members also have great bodies. SOL is the number 1 member that has a good body. And me..I think I tie with him in 1st place (laugh).”

On the verge of the long-awaited ALIVE Tour. Please introduce your highlight for the concert!

“For this tour, we’ll do the concert together with the director Laurieann Gibson who has worked with Lady Gaga along with the Live Nation team. Up until now, this concert tour/series is the most satisfying so far. Above all, the band members are the best! They are almost the same age as us and we felt so much pressure but, when we talk about music and practicing, we really enjoy it a lot! Actually I want to rest my voice, but when they start their musical performance, I can’t help but sing along also (laugh). I really hope the audience can really feel the sound that we play during the concert.”

Anything which the members have done recently which made you happy?

D-LITE: Seungri’s pretending to be an adult (laugh) . Because of him, every day is enjoyable.
SOL: When I was nearly hurt by the fire flares in a music progam, TOP was angry about it and scolded the staff. It was the first time that I thought he is so reliable. (laugh).
VI: When other members praised the restaurants that I have introduced to them and praised it as ‘Oishikatta! (delicious)
GD: They have not done anything really special for me (laugh) But just being together with them, I will feel happy.
T.O.P: Seungri always lifts up the atmosphere these days, he has really been a big help!


When do you feel that you have become an adult?

D-LITE: When some juniors introduced themselves to me at music programs.
SOL: I have none of these moments.
V.I: when I can wake up easily in the morning.
GD: I am still a kid.
T.O.P: I have no such kind of moments, I want to keep myself like a child in the future.

’Herbivore’ man is really popular in Japan, what kind of man do you think you are?

D-LITE: Energetic man! because I am always smiling every day.
SOL: I am a ‘pure man’ because I don’t have much love experience, I don’t know how to deal with women, (shy).
V.I: Bad Boy’ since I have been living in my own way (laugh)
GD: I think I am a man with ‘7 changes’ because each time when you see me, you will find something different.
T.O.P: A ‘magical man’ because I am full of magic.

Among the books,films and fashion that you have recently enjoyed, are you into anything?

D-LITE: I think ‘Mission Impossible 2’ is the best!
SOL: I am into scarves and bandanas.
VI: I am really addicted to ‘Ame-talk (rain talk)’ show !
GD: I have tattooed ‘Forever Young’ on my right chest and ‘Mind control’ on my left. I want to control my sentiments well.

Yuri Interviewed by ‘Woman Chosun’: ‘I’m No Longer a Girl’

Yuri, ‘Woman Chosun’ ile Röportaj Yaptı: ‘Artık bir kız değilim.’

Yuri, “Woman Chosun” Dergisi için bir röportaj yaptı ve fotoğraf çekiminde yer aldı.

Recently, Yuri took part in an interview and photo shoot for “Woman Chosun” magazine.

We were able to realize that it’s just as hard receiving love as it is giving it after talking with Yuri. The reason why the group “Girls’ Generation”, which she is a member of, is so amazing is not because they have constantly been receiving unconditional love. It’s because they show more love than they receive. Yuri is one of the members amongst the nine others who works very hard. “Fashion King” is the first work where she is in charge of a lead role. How many sleepless nights has she spent? We met with rookie actress, Kwon Yuri.

“The carrot cake here is good.”

Friday afternoon, the spring sun is warm, and this milk tea is sweet. The carrot cake Yuri recommended wasn’t too sweet and was soft, just like she said. This is Yuri’s hideout, where she said she comes to chat with her friends every now and then. Because of that, the Yuri sitting in front of me right now is not a dazzling girl group Girls’ Generation’s goddess, or the perfect designer Choi Anna from the drama either. She is just a 24 year-old woman. Her occupation is a celebrity, and it has been five years since her debut. “Because I received a lot of love, I am working to meet their expectations”, showing she is a hard worker who puts her words into action.

Kwon Yuri’s “Into the New World”

Wearing a yellow jacket with the sleeves rolled up, Yuri pushes a hanger full of clothing with one hand while she’s holding the phone with her other hand, handling a call. Yoo Ah-In, who was enjoying a bath, is surprised and hides his body. Yuri looks at him indifferently.
“I don’t have time. So get out.”

This scene was from the third episode of “Fashion King”, where the two met for the first time in New York. Yuri said all her lines in English. Her last “Get out!”, which was pronounced with much emphasis on the last “T”, came off as being both indifferent and irritable. Along with the good pronunciation, there was even emotion in the acting. She is not from the States like her fellow Girls’ Generation members Tiffany and Jessica.

“Even during my days as a trainee seven-eight years before my debut, it’s been about ten years since I wanted to act. I received acting lessons consistently and read scenarios alone as well. I’m really happy I’m able to act in a drama now. Before filming started, I had about ten meetings with the director. The director wasn’t well aware of who I was, and because he couldn’t get a grasp of my level of acting, he gave me a lot of advice. More than anything, I was worried about having to act in English. Anna is a very successful, top designer in New York, so I had to pronounce words well, as well as express all emotions well. I carried a voice recorder and camcorder around everywhere, repeatedly recording and listening to it.”

The PD in charge, director Lee Myung Woo, said it was true that they were worried about Yuri being cast. It was to the point where he made tapes containing things he wanted to speak to her about on acting because it was “too much of an important role for a rookie to take on.”

“At first, there were a lot of things we asked of from Yuri. There were also times where we had to change things on the set. Now, she is getting better every day. If you point out her weak points, she takes note of them and applies it to her acting. She’s always prepared. I only found out recently that she carries the tapes I made for her around and listens to them.” (Lee Myung Woo PD)

Girls’ Generation member Yoona made her first attempt in acting in 2008 through “You Are My Destiny”, and Jessica through “Wild Romance” recently. If you consider Yuri’s statement, “I prepared for about ten years because I wanted to act,” she started off late. While the drama has aired eleven episodes so far, there haven’t been any issues with her acting despite being a rookie.

“My personality is like that. It’s similar to Anna’s. I wanted to show a more complete me. Whether it be acting in English, singing, or dancing, I think that if I’m going to show myself to someone else, that I should be a bit more genuine. If I want to do that, I have to become more familiar with that side of me, and to become used to it, lots of practice and effort have to be put forth repeatedly. I think that’s why it took a little longer.”

Yuri was recently chosen for having the best body amongst girl group members by foreigners on MBC Music’s “Show Champion”. Girls’ Generation members also often say, “I’m jealous of Yuri’s healthy body.” Also, when she guest starred on SBS’s “Victory” with her members, the diet manager, Shawn Lee, stated, “There are many cases where the other members are born with their bodies, such as Sooyoung. But Yuri’s body is made by her efforts. It’s a body that results from consistent exercise.”

Out of Girls’ Generation members, the time Yuri started gaining attention was a little while after their debut. As they are reaching five years since their debut, each of the nine members have garnered attention at least once. But rather than being a member who garnered attention from the start, Yuri has consistently increased attention on herself with her constant bright image. Even on variety shows, she would do “kkab dances” and also won second place on “Let’s Go Dream Team”. As she doesn’t spare her body on anything, her presence gradually grew.

“I’ve always liked exercising. I like swimming the most, and even thought about becoming a professional swimmer. Even after debuting, if I get stressed or feel heavy, I go to work out, although I haven’t been able to lately due to all the filming.”


I Fell Easily, But I Never Gave Up

SM’s practice and training is well known for being systematic and intense. They practice and practice until their choreography is perfect without any errors. It took a year for Girls’ Generation’s first choreography to be perfected. Especially when it comes to groups like Girls’ Generation, who have grown continuously with barely any time to breathe, and receives attention wherever they are, this hits harder. I could not neglect Yuri’s words. “It may look fancy, but there is a lot of effort put into it that you can’t see.”

“There have been many jagged stones which I could have fallen by, and there have been many things that could have made me falter. But I constantly tell myself, ‘I just fell for a moment. I’m going to get back up’, because giving back all the love many people have given me is my responsibility. No matter what difficult thing there is, no matter what difficulties come up, I can’t break because of it. Because I’ve come this far like that, I’m able to gain strength no matter what hardships there are.”

I thought she was only receiving love. I didn’t even think that they were giving energy. The average amount of time spent as a trainee is over five years, and the time spent preparing for one choreography is an average of one year. They have been trained to know well that expectations are bound to increase, and that they need to return the love they received. And so, to them, the stage is “an overwhelmingly happy place”, and “a cold place that will not tolerate a single mistake.”

“There were times where I did things that I never thought I would be able to do. At times like that, there’s an indescribable thrill, and I feel really happy. And so, although I think things like, ‘Ah, I can’t do this’, ‘I think I’m going to quit’, ‘I don’t think this is the right path for me’, and ‘I can’t take this anymore’, countless times, after I accomplish one thing, I feel like I can accomplish another thing. So I’m able to overcome a moment of crisis by telling myself, ‘I’ll just do one more thing’, and ‘Let’s just try overcoming this one mountain.’”

Soon, the film “I AM” that reveals the life of SM idols will be released. Each member who starred in it left one message. Yuri wrote this.

“The people who have known me, tell me, ‘There is a similarity between you and Anna. Without trying to figure out what kind of person Anna is, or how you would act it out, finding the similarities between yourself and Anna will get you those answers faster.’ I wondered if that was true and tried looking for the Anna inside of me. Anna works hard, but things continue to mess up, and love for her is difficult and she is discouraged. There are a lot of scenes like that. Although she really works passionately, things don’t go her way. Not only does it not go her way, but she doesn’t get results that meet the amount of efforts put forth. We all experience those kind of moments. I could understand what that feels like.The more I looked at her, I felt there were a lot of similarities between Anna and myself. She’s a really delicate girl. She tries to make herself look tougher so that doesn’t show. She shows an arrogance that makes it seem like she has everything, but when she’s alone, she takes sedatives. She cries alone. My heart hurts with her at moments like that.”

Yuri is usually told that she is cheerful, but she said she is actually trying really hard. She said she tries to smile more, especially when she’s going through a tough time. So, when Yuri smiles a bit more than usual, it is a moment where one must pay close attention to her.


“I may look strong on the outside, but I know well that I am actually very very weak, so trying to overcome myself is the hardest thing. And so when I meet someone who is like me, my boundaries just drop. I express my feelings and become honest. That is something that Anna and I really have in common.”

The people Yuri is acting with, Yoo Ah-In, Lee Jehoon, and Shin Sekyung, are today’s hottest actors. Because their acting is also solid, they are actors who succeed with their characters rather than with their popularity. But, rather than feeling timid, Yuri approaches them. She approaches them, asks them questions, and learns. Because she is a rookie, she asks them if the emotions she feels while acting are right, and asks if it’s okay for her to continue the scene that way. Then, these seniors answer without hesitation. Juniors who ask questions with their eyes sparkling, trying to learn, are bound to be loved.

“Whatever role Yoo Ah-In oppa gets, he puts life into it. His acting moves people. Whenever Younggeol and Anna meet, the energy I receive is also great. Because I receive a lively energy. You let yourself go and become more honest. I spoke with Ah-In oppa on acting not too long ago, and I liked how when I asked him things I’m curious about, he answered them all and also told me about things that I couldn’t think up.”

She said actor Yoo Ah-In’s motto is “Act genuinely”. Yuri said she felt reassured because she thought, “Ah, this is right.” Lee Jehoon seems a lot different from his role of Jaehyuk as well. The thing that Yuri was most curious about when it came to Lee Jehoon was this: “Who exactly are you, Lee Jehoon?” She asked him this in real life.

“There was something that always crossed my mind when watching Jehoon oppa act. Who is this person, really? Because he’s a person who has such a diverse spectrum, I’m surprised every time I see him. From a naive face, to the best fighter in school, it’s like that even now. When I’m with him, I only see Jung Jaehyuk, to the point where I forget the person, Lee Jehoon. Even after filming is over, it still feels like he’s Jung Jaehyuk.”

- What did you eat for breakfast today?

Jordans’ “Muesli”, which I enjoyed eating when I went to London, and fruits. (”Muesli” is a brand of cereal by a company named “Jordans”.) Not too long ago, the musical “Catch Me If You Can” started, and I barely have enough time to eat breakfast peacefully. Because of this, I find myself trying to find food that I can quickly eat during a break but still provides sufficient nutrition.

- What is the perfect music to suit a perfect breakfast?

Musical numbers. Even if I listen to them only once, I memorize the melody and lyrics, and if I have a performance later that day, it’s the last opportunity to compose myself. Even during my school days, breakfast time was also time for me to daydream and remember the important things to do later that day.
