Ground Broken for 2nd Antarctic Research Base

Ikinci Antarktika Arastirma Üssünün Temeli Atildi

Güney Kore, sali günü 2. Antarktika arastirma üssü için temel atma töreni düzenledi. Arazi, Ulasim ve Denizcilik Isleri Bakanligi'nin ikinci yardimcisinin baskanlik ettigi bir delege heyeti, Antarktika'nin Terra Nova Körfezindeki Jang Bo-go üssünün temelini atmak için sali günkü törene katildi.

9. yüzyilda yasamis bir Koreli amiralin ismi verilen Jang Bo-go üssüne, ülkenin ilk arastirma üssü olan Kral Sejong üssünün 1988'de tamamlanmasindan 24 yil sonra baslandi.

Kral Sejong üssü Güney Kutbunun en kuzeyindeki King George Adasinda yer alirken Jang Bo-go üssü anakara üzerinde insa ediliyor. Daha uygun yerlestirilen yeni üssün, Güney Kore'nin kutup bölgesinde ilerlemesi için köprü görevi görmesi bekleniyor.

Jang Bo-go üssünün insaati planlandigi gibi Mart 2014'te tamamlandiginda Güney Kore; ABD, Ingiltere ve Çin'in ardindan Antarktika'da iki ya da daha fazla arastirma üssüne sahip dünyanin 9. ülkesi olacak.

South Korea held a groundbreaking ceremony for its second Antarctic research base on Tuesday. A delegation led by Second Vice Minister of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs Ju Sung-ho attended a ceremony on Tuesday to break ground for the Jang Bo-go base at Terra Nova Bay in the Antarctic.

Construction of the Jang Bo-go base, named after the ninth-century Korean admiral, comes 24 years after the country’s first Antarctic research station, the King Sejong base, was completed in 1988.

While the King Sejong base is located on the northernmost King George Island of the south pole, the Jang Bo-go base is being constructed on the mainland. More conveniently located, the new base is expected to serve as a bridgehead for South Korea to advance in the polar region.

Once construction of the Jang Bo-go base is completed in March 2014 as scheduled, South Korea will become the world’s ninth country to have two or more research stations in the Antarctic, following the U.S., Britain and China.

SK Android Smartphones to Carry 4 Hangeul Keypad Layouts

Ülkenin önde gelen mobil kurulusu SK Telekom, piyasaya sürecegi tüm android akilli telefonlara 4 tür tus takimi yüklemek için Hangul tus takimi üreticileriyle anlastigini bildirdi.

Samsung Elektronik'in Cheonjiin'i, LG Elektronik'in Naratgeul'u, Sky'in Pantech'i ve en yaygin bilgisayar tus takimi düzeni olan Qwerty klavye düzeni, 4 tür tus takimini olusturuyor.

SK Telekom, telefon sahiplerinin önceden, farkli bir üreticinin imal ettigi telefonlari aldiklarinda yeni tus takimlarina uyum saglamalari gerektigini söyledi. Mobil kurulusu, yeni anlasmanin bu sikintiyi çözecegini ve akilli telefon kullanicilarinin istedikleri Hangul tus takimini seçebileceklerini söyledi.

The nation’s top mobile carrier SK Telecom says it has agreed with Hangeul keypad manufacturers to load four types of keypads onto all android smartphones that it releases in the market.

The four types of keypads are Samsung Electronics’ Cheonjiin, LG Electronics’ Naratgeul, Sky’s Pantech and the Qwerty keyboard layout, which is the most common computer keyboard arrangement.

SK Telecom said previously phones users had to adapt to new keypads when they changed phones produced by a different manufacturer. The mobile carrier said the recent agreement would resolve this inconvenience and smartphone users will be able to choose the Hanguel keypad of their choice.

Domestic Team Develops Semiconductor Technology

Yerli Grup Yari Iletken Teknoloji Gelistirdi

Yerli bir arastirma grubu, DNA kullanarak ultra ince iki nanometre sinifi yari iletken üretebilen bir teknoloji gelistirdigini söyledi. Kore Gelismis Bilim ve Teknoloji Enstitüsünde (KAIST) yeni malzeme mühendisligi profesörü olan Kim Sang-wook'un liderlik ettigi grup pazartesi günü yeniligini duyurdu.

Iki nanometre sinifi teknolojisi, yari iletken depolamasini, piyasada baslica ürün olan 20 nanometreli yari iletkenden 100 kat daha fazlasina çikaracak.

En son teknoloji, çiplerin dis katman ve retina gibi temel parçalara baglanmasini da mümkün kiliyor.

Bu kesif, uluslararasi kimya dergisi “Angewandte Chemie”'nin Ocak sayisinda yer aldi.

A domestic research team says it has developed a technology that can produce an ultra-thin two nanometer class semiconductor by using DNA.

The team led by new materials engineering professor Kim Sang-wook at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) announced its breakthrough on Monday.

The two-nanometer class technology increases the storage of semiconductors a 100 times more than a 20-nanometer class semiconductor, which is the mainstream product on the market.

The newest technology also enables the attachment of chips to body parts, such as the skin or retinas.

The findings appeared on the January issue of international chemistry journal “Angewandte Chemie.”

Samsung Electronics Co. unveils its high-end smart TV ES8000 at its main office in Seoul on Feb. 8, 2102. The smart TV is equipped with voice and motion recognition functions, and can be upgraded by inserting a so-called "evolution kit" into a slot on the back of the set, instead of having to buy a new TV to access the latest features.
