Opposition Alliance Curbs Internal Conflict

Muhalefet Birligi Fikir Ayriligini Durduruyor

Muhalefet birligi süresince fikir ayriliklari, Birlesmis Ilerici Parti Esbaskani Lee Jung-hee'nin seçimlerden adayligini çekmesi yönündeki kararini takiben, sona erecege benziyor.

Lee, cuma günkü basin toplantisinda, Gwanak-B seçim bölgesi için öne sürdügü teklifi, muhalefet partilerinin birlesmesinin onun yüzünden ortaya çikan sorunlarla karsi karsiya kaldigini söylerek, geri çekti.

BIP lideri kisa süre önce bir seçim anketinin sonuçlarini çarpittigi iddiasindan ötürü suçlamalara maruz kalmisti.

Demokratik Birlesmis Parti Esbaskani Han Myeong-sook, Lee'nin bu kararina saygi duydugunu ifade etti.

BIP'in aday gösterdigi Lee Sang-gyu'nun, daha önceki Demokratik Isçi Partisi'nin Seoul'deki bir bölüm baskaninin, Lee'nin birakma kararinin hemen ardindan onun yerini alacagi duyuruldu.

Conflict within the opposition alliance seems to be settling following Unified Progressive Party Chairwoman Lee Jung-hee's decision to withdraw her candidacy from the April general elections.

Lee pulled her bid for the Gwanak-B constituency during a press conference Friday, saying the unity of opposition parties was faced with difficulties because of her. The UPP leader has recently been pummeled with criticism for allegedly distorting the results of an election poll.

Democratic United Party Chairwoman Han Myeong-sook expressed her respect for Lee’s decision.

The UPP nominated Lee Sang-gyu, a Seoul chapter head of the former Democratic Labor Party, to replace Lee Jung-hee shortly after her decision to drop out.

The chairwomen of both parties are scheduled to meet and hold a press conference on Sunday to strengthen their alliance ahead of the general elections.

Candidate Registration Ends for General Elections

Genel Seçimler için Aday Kayitlari Sona Erdi

Cuma günü yaklasan genel seçimler için aday kayitlari sona erdi.

Ulusal Seçim Komitesi, persembe ve cuma günü nisan ayi rekabeti için 246 seçim bölgesinden 927 adayin kaydedildigini söyledi.

Kayitli adaylarin dökümü, iktidardaki Saenuri Partisi'nden 230, Demokratik Birlesmis Parti'den 210, Ileri Özgürlük Partisi'nden 52 ve Birlesmis Ilerici Parti'den 55 aday içeriyor. 2008 yilinda bu rakamin yaklasik iki kati olan 257 kisi bagimsiz olarak kayit oldu.

Seçim komitesinin kisa bir sürede kendi web sitesinde adaylarin net varliklari, askeri geçmisi, vergi geçmisi ve sabika kaydi listesini yayinlamasi bekleniliyor.

Candidate registration for the upcoming general elections wrapped up on Friday.

The National Election Committee said 927 candidates from 246 electoral districts registered on Thursday and Friday for the April contest.

The breakdown of registered candidates includes 230 from the ruling Saenuri Party, 210 from the Democratic United Party, 52 from the Liberty Forward Party and 55 from the Unified Progressive Party. Two-hundred-57 people registered as independents, roughly double the figure in 2008.

The election committee is expected to shortly release a list of candidates' net assets, military history, tax history and criminal records on its Web site.
