Missing Asiana Pilot Took Out W3Bn in Insurance Before Crash

Kayip Asya Havayollari Pilotu, Kazadan Önce 3 Milyar Won Degerinde Sigorta Yaptirdi

Jeju Adasi’nin batisinda, persembe günü sulara gömülen Asya Havayollarina ait kargo uçaginin pilotu kaybolmustu. Pilotun, 3 milyar won degerinde sigorta poliçesi oldugu ögrenildi.

Sigorta kurumu yetkilileri, pilotun sigorta poliçesini haziran ayinda yaptirdigini söylediler. Kendisi için; 2 hayat sigortasi poliçesi ve 5 adet de hasar sigortasi poliçesi yaptirdi.

Sigorta sirketleri, Ulastirma Bakanligi tarafindan kazanin incelenmesi sonucunda olagandisi bir sey bulamadiklari takdirde; sigorta bedelini, pilotun cansiz bedeni bulundugu zaman ödeyecekleri konusunda israr ediyorlar.

Uçak, persembe günü erken saatlerde kargo bölümünde yangin alarmi verildikten sonra düsmüstü. Uçagin yardimci pilotu ise halen daha kayip.

The missing pilot of the Asiana Airlines cargo plane that crashed into waters west of Jeju Island on Thursday was found to have insurance policies worth three billion won.

Insurance sector officials say the pilot began to take out policies in June. He currently holds two life insurance policies and five damage insurance policies.

Insurance companies are looking into the matter, and if probe results by the Transport Ministry find nothing unusual in the cause of the crash, the pilot is expected to claim the money if he is found dead.

The plane went down early Thursday after reporting a fire in the cargo bay. The co-pilot of the plane is still missing as well.

The head of the Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency Lee Kang-deok said the agency will posthumously name Cho an honorary police officer as it was Cho’s intent to become a career officer.

Flood relief volunteers come out in droves

Su Baskinlari Gönüllüleri Yollara Döktü

Güney Koreliler merkezi bölgeyi altüst eden yogun yagislarin meydana getirdigi sürekli artan zararlari hep birlikte telafi etmeye çalisiyor.

Seoul Gönüllüler Merkezinin yaptigi açiklamada; üç bin gönüllünün cuma günü Seoul'un sekiz semtinde yardimci oldugunu söyledi.

Çarsamba ve persembe günü yardim çalismalarina bin kisi katildi ve cumartesi ve pazar günü alti bin kisinin yardim ekibine katilmasi bekleniyor. Son felaketten sonra gönüllülerin bir araya gelerek Seoul gönüllülerinin sayisinin haftaya on bini bulacagi tahmin ediliyor.

Ulusal Acil Durum Yönetim Ajansi’ndan bu sabah alinan verilere göre bu haftaki siddetli yagmur yüzünden 62 kisi öldü ve 9 kisi kayip. 11 binden fazla kisi evlerinden tahliye edildi ve bunlarin 3400'ü geçici barinaklara tasindi.

Saganak yagmur; 10 bin evi, bin magaza ve fabrikayi, 2 bin arabayi sular altinda birakti. Yaklasik bin hektar tarim arazisi su altinda kalirken 270 bin hayvan da kayboldu.

A growing number of South Koreans are helping to restore damages inflicted by the heavy rainfall that wreaked havoc in the central region.

The Seoul City Volunteer Center says that three-thousand volunteers were helping out at eight districts throughout Seoul on Friday.

One thousand people took part in relief efforts Wednesday and Thursday, and six-thousand more are expected to join Saturday and Sunday. The number of volunteers in Seoul will likely reach ten-thousand by next week, which would be the most volunteers to come together following a disaster.

According to the National Emergency Management Agency, 62 people have died and nine are missing from this week's torrential rains as of Saturday morning. More than 11-thousand people have evacuated their homes and 34-hundred of them have relocated to temporary shelters.

The downpour left 10-thousand houses, one-thousand stores and factories and two-thousand cars under water. Nearly one-thousand hectares of farmland were flooded and 270-thousand heads of livestock were lost as well.

Incoming US Military Chief Visits S. Korea

ABD Genelkurmay Baskani Martin Dempsey, bu hafta Güney Kore'ye iki günlük resmi olmayan bir gezi için geldi.

Seoul birlesme amiri, Dempsey'in Kore'ye persembe günü geldigini ve cuma günü de JCS Baskani Han Min-koo ile Savunma Bakanliginda yaklasik bir saat bir araya geldigini söyledi.

Ikili yaptiklari görüsmede, Kuzey Kore'nin nükleer silah gelistirmesi ve füze yapim çalismalari hakkinda tartistilar.

Görevliler; Dempsey'in ziyaretinin amacinin, ABD Genelkurmay baskani olmak için ABD Senatosunun onayi öncesinde ABD ile askeri konularda müttefik olan Güney Kore'ye kendini tanitmak istemesi oldugunu söyledi.

Geçen mayis ayinda görev için aday olarak gösterilmisti ve ekim ayinda göreve baslamasi bekleniyor.

U.S. Army Chief of Staff General Martin Dempsey made an unofficial two-day trip to South Korea this week.

A Joint Chiefs of Staff official in Seoul says that Dempsey arrived in Korea Thursday, and on Friday met with South Korean JCS Chairman Han Min-koo at the Defense Ministry for about an hour.

The two are believed to have discussed North Korea's nuclear arms development and preparations it is making to conduct missile tests.

The official says Dempsey likely visited South Korea to familiarize himself with the U.S. ally's military issues ahead of his Senate confirmation hearing to become the chairman U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff.

He was nominated to the post in May and is expected to take office in October following the Senate hearing.

Yetkililer kimliginin gizli kalmasi kosulu ile yaptigi açiklamada, 50 yasindaki adam su anda Çinli bir ajan ve Güney Koreli bir avukatin yardimi ile teshis edemeyen Güney Kore vatandasina karsi dava açmaya hazirlaniyor. Adamin babasi milyonlarca dolar mirasi geride birakti.

A North Korean man is seeking to inherit part of the assets left behind by his father who died in the South, government and court officials here said Sunday, just weeks after a similar case ended in assets being split among family members across the two Koreas.

The man in his 50s is currently preparing to file a lawsuit against a South Korean citizen, who was not identified, through the help of an agent in China and a lawyer in South Korea, the officials said on condition of anonymity. The man's late father reportedly left behind an inheritance worth millions of dollars.

South Korea's leading automaker Hyundai Motor Co. said Sunday it has started to support planting trees in China's Inner Mongolia desert as part of efforts to stop desertification in the area.

The northern part of China has been plagued by desertification due to rapid deforestation, overgrazing and climate change. Dust storms that originate in the region regularly blow over South Korea and Japan, carrying pollution from China's factories and causing environmental and respiratory damage.

South Korean civic groups have held rallies protesting Japanese lawmakers who arrived in the nation Monday with the intent to visit Ulleung Island in the East Sea.

The civic groups held a news conference Monday in front of the Japanese Embassy in Seoul, vowing to block the lawmakers’ visit to the island near the Dokdo islets by any means.

Milletvekilleri, Kore hükümeti tarafindan yayinlanan bir giris yasagi nedeniyle Güney Kore’nin Ulleung Adasi ziyareti çalismalarinda basarisiz oldular. Ziyaretlerinin nedeninin daha çok Ulleung yakinlarinda Dokdo üzerinde Japonya’nin hak iddaasinin yeniden dizayn edilmesi olduguna inaniliyor.

Tourists visit Dokdo

A group of tourists visits South Korea's Dokdo islets in the East Sea on Aug. 1, when three Japanese lawmakers from the conservative Liberal Democratic Party were blocked from entering the country at Gimpo International Airport, west of Seoul. The lawmakers unsuccessfully tried to visit South Korea's Ulleung Island due to an entry ban issued by the Korean government. Their visit is largely believed to be designed to reassert Japan's claim over Dokdo, which is located near Ulleung
