“Naturalization Not Allowed Without Means of Livelihood”

“Geçim Kaynagi Olmadan Vatandasliga Kabul Edilmiyor”

Mahkeme aksi nitelikli olsa bile yasadiklari ülkede temelli oturamayan yabancilarin Güney Kore vatandasligina kabul edilemeyecegi kararini verdi.

The court has ruled that South Korean citizenship may not be granted to foreigners who have not established a foundation to make a living in the country, even if they are qualified otherwise.

The Seoul High Court upheld a decision that disallowed naturalization of an ethnic Korean from China, only known by his surname Kim. Kim appealed to the Justice Minister against it.

Güney Kore, Kuzey Kore’ye Sel Yardimi Gönderiyor

Güney Kore, Kuzey Kore’ye sel yardimi saglamak için gerekli idari adimlari baslatmayi planliyor.

Bir hükümet yetkilisi, hazirlik sürecinin bu hafta baslayacagini söyledi ve Kuzey Kore’nin de büyük olasilikla gönüllü afet yardim malzemelerini kabul edecegini sözlerine ekledi.

Yetkili, Kuzey Kore’nin Güney Kore’nin acil yardim gönderme önerisine henüz resmi bir yanit vermemis olmasina ragmen teklifi reddetme durumunun olmadigini belirtti.

South Korea is planning to begin necessary administrative steps to deliver flood relief aid to North Korea.

A government official said that the preparation process will start this week, adding that North Korea will likely accept the disaster relief supplies willingly.

The official noted that North Korea is not in a situation to refuse South Korea’s offer, although North Korea has yet to express an official response to South Korea’s proposal to send emergency relief.

South Korea’s ambassador to Mexico Cho Hwan-bok says he has asked the Mexico City's prosecutor to arrest the gunmen responsible for the fatal shooting of an ethnic Korean employee of a South Korean conglomerate.

Cho met with Attorney General Marisela Morales in Mexico City. Cho said the killing had dealt a severe blow to the South Korean community and companies operating in Mexico, and ask the attorney to take direct interest in the investigation to arrest the culprit.

President Lee Myung-bak says the nation can expect unusual climate conditions next year and it should be prepared to deal with them.

In his biweekly radio address Monday, Lee said the recent heavy rains and mass flooding made him realize the limits of the existing disaster prevention system.

The president vowed to make budgeting for disaster prevention his top priority, and he promised a comprehensive and long-term approach to disaster prevention including new disaster regulations.

Lee said flood victims whose daily life is under threat or who have no place to live will be the first to be supported.

Incheon named world's 2nd best airport to sleep in: poll

Incheon International Airport, South Korea's main gateway, is the world's second best airport to sleep in for travelers in transit, Seoul's foreign ministry said Monday, citing an online poll.

According to a recent post on the ministry's policy blog (blog.naver.com/ilovemofat), a Canadian-run website showed that the South Korean airport in Incheon, west of Seoul, was the most convenient and comfortable airport to sleep in after Singapore's Changi Airport.

Bir birlesme bakanligi yetkilisi, Kuzey Kore henüz cevap vermemis olsa da, Güney Koreli yetkililerin planlari ile ileriye dogru ilerleyecegine inandigini açikladi. Yetkili, desteklerin Kuzey Kore’ye Chuseok tatilinden önce gönderilecegi tahmininde bulundu.

The South Korean Red Cross has begun preparations to send flood relief supplies to North Korea.

In light of the Seoul’s commitment to send emergency humanitarian support as soon as possible to the heavy rain and flood victims in North Korea, the Red Cross is contacting companies for supplies.

A Unification Ministry official said although North Korea has not replied yet, the South’s authorities believe going ahead with plans. The official predicted that support could be sent to the North before the Chuseok holidays.

Yardim malzemeleri Geyongeui ve Donghae karayollarindan Kuzey Kore’nin Hwanhae ve Gangwon Eyaletleri’ne teslim edilecek.

The government has notified North Korea of the flood relief aid it is preparing to send to the communist nation.

A Unification Ministry official said that the notice was sent to the North on Wednesday afternoon in the name of South Korea’s Red Cross chief.

The five-billion-won worth relief supplies include one-point-four million nutritional food items and 300-thousand snacks for infants and children, as well as one-point-six million instant noodles.

The relief supplies will be delivered to Hwanghae and Gangwon provinces in the North by the inter-Korean Geyongeui and Donghae highways.

A former police chief was sentenced to six years in prison on Wednesday for taking bribes in return for his influence peddling in a number of business deals and personnel affairs.

Kang Hee-rak, who served as the chief of the National Police Agency from 2009 till 2010, was also ordered to pay 170 million won (US$157,261) in fines and forfeit another 170 million won he took in bribes from a lobbyist.

The embattled chairman of Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction vowed Wednesday to make efforts to settle an eight-month-long labor dispute triggered by the shipbuilder's massive layoffs.

After arriving home earlier Wednesday from what critics have called a monthlong escape abroad, Cho Nam-ho vowed, "I will fulfill all my duties in order to revive the company."

Cho went abroad in June as lawmakers moved to bring him in for a parliamentary hearing.
