Yüksek mahkeme MBC çalisanlarini temize çikardi

Yüksek mahkeme geçtigimiz gün, ''PD Diary'' programinin 2008 yilinda yayinlanan bir bölümünde deli dana hastaliginin risklerinden bahsetmekten suçlanan bes MBC çalisaninin suçsuzlugunu onayladi.

Yüksek mahkeme, ''PD Diary'' programinda verilen bilgilerin yanlis oldugu, ancak bundan tek kasti izleyicilere hizmet sunmak olan yapimcilarin sorumlu tutulamayacagi konusunda karar kildi.

Seoul Belediyesi, 2008 yilinda Amerikan sigir etinin Kore piyasalarina girisine yeniden müsaade vererek, 2003 yilinda Amerika'da ilk deli dana hastaligi vukuatina rastlandigindan bu yana süregelen bir yasagi da kaldirmis oldu.

Bunun üzerine 29 Nisan 2008 tarihinde MBC kanalinin ''PD Diary'' programinda Amerikan sigir etinin sagliksal açidan güvenilir olup olmadigi konusunu isleyen bir bölüm yayinlandi. Ardindan MBC kanalinin ''PD Diary'' programinin dört yapimcisi ve bir senaristi hakkinda, o dönemin Gida, Tarimcilik ve Balikçilik Bakani Chung Woon-chun'a hakaret etmek suçundan sorusturma baslatildi.

O zamanlar avukatlar ''PD Diary'' çalisanlarinin Amerikan sigir etinden bulasmasi muhtemel olan deli dana hastaligi risklerini bilerek abarttigi ve bu sayede sigir eti ithal eden Amerikalilarin islerine engel oldugu görüsündeydi.

Fakat yüksek mahkeme geçtigimiz gün, programda verilen bilgilerin ''PD Diary'' çalisanlarinin kendi görüsü oldugunu ve bu açiklamalarin gerçekten uzak oldugunu onaylayarak çalisanlari temize çikardi.

Top court acquits MBC staffers

The Supreme Court yesterday upheld the acquittals of five staffers of the Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation over charges that the 2008 “PD Diary” episode about the risk of mad cow disease.

The Supreme Court ruled that the PD Diary report contained some false information, but concluded that the producers couldn’t be held accountable because their intention was to serve the viewers.

In 2008, Seoul agreed to reopen the Korean market to American beef, lifting a ban imposed since the first U.S. case of mad cow disease was reported in 2003.

MBC’s PD Diary aired an episode on the safety of U.S. beef on April 29, 2008. Four producers and a script writer of MBC’s PD Diary team were indicted on charges of defaming Chung Woon-chun, then the minister for food, agriculture and fisheries.

At the time, the prosecutors argued that the PD Diary staffers intentionally exaggerated the risk of mad cow disease in American beef and obstructed the U.S. beef importers’ business.

The Supreme Court said those assertions were the programs opinions, not factual errors.

29.3Mln People to Hit the Road for Chuseok Holidays

Chuseok Tatilinde 29.3 Milyon Kisi Yollara Dökülecek

29.3 milyon kisinin 3 günlük Chuseok Tatili'den bir gün önce 11 Eylül tarihinde memleketlerini ziyarete gideceklerinden dolayi trafigin yogun olacagi açiklandi.

Arazi, Ulasim ve Denizcilik Bakanliginin yaptigi anketin sonuçlarina göre tatilcilerin yüzde 34.11'i 11 Eylül sabahi yola çikacak.

10 kisiden 4'ünün Chuseok Tatilinin ilk günü 12 Eylülde geri dönmek için yola çikacaklar, bunlarin yüzde 33'ü ögleden sonra, yüzde ondan fazlasi da sabah yola çikacak.

Yolcularin yüzde 83'ü sahsi arabalar ile seyahatini yapacakken bunu yüzde 13'lük oranla otobüs ile seyahat yapacak olanlar takip ediyor ve yüzde 3.3'lük bir kesimde tren yolculugu yapacak.

Bakanlik internet sayfasi ve Twitter gibi sosyal aglar üzerinden trafik durumu ile ilgili ülke çapinda bilgi aktarmayi planliyor.

Some 29-point-three million people will hit the road to visit their homes for the three-day Chuseok holidays, with the heaviest traffic expected during the morning of September 11th, a day before the Chuseok.

The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs’ survey finds that 34-point-three percent of holidaymakers plan to hit the road in the morning of September 11th.

Four out of ten people plan to return on September 12th, the day of Chuseok, as about 33 percent said they will hit the road in the afternoon of Chuseok, while more than ten percent said they will be on the move in the morning.

Some 83 percent of the holidaymakers are expected to use cars, followed by 13 percent taking bus and three-point-four percent trains.

The ministry plans to provide information of traffic conditions around the country via its Web site and the social network service twitter.

Anlasmaya göre önümüzdeki Mart ayinda Güney Kore'nin baskenti Seoul'de yapilmasi planlanan ikinci Nükleer Güvenlik Zirvesi'ni en kapsamli olarak Yonhap Haber Ajansi sunacak.

Eylemci isçi Jeon'un annesi için cenaze alayi toplandi

Eylemci isçi Jeon Tae-il'in annesi Lee So-sun için toplanan cenaze alayi, Seoul Ulusal Üniversitesi Hastanesi'nden cenaze töreninin gerçeklestigi Daehangno Sokagi'na dogru yol aldi.

Lee, 3 Eylül tarihinde 82 yasinda yasama veda etti. Ayrica, Seoul'deki Pyeonghwa Market'te terzi olarak çalisan ve çalisma kosullarini protesto etmek için 1971 yiliinda intihar eden oglu Jeon Tae-il'in ölümünün ardindan kendisi de eylem yapmaya baslamisti.

Funeral procession for mother of labor activist Jeon

A funeral procession for Lee So-sun, the mother of labor activist Jeon Tae-il, left the Seoul National University Hospital to Daehangno Street, where her funeral was held.

Lee died at the age of 82 on Sept. 3. She became a labor activist in 1971, when her son Jeon Tae-il, a garment worker at Seoul's Pyeonghwa Market, killed himself in protest for better working conditions.

Yanan Jeju Feribotundan 130 Kisi Kurtarildi

Dün gece 12:40 sularinda Busan'dan Jeju'ya seyretmekte olan yolcu feribotu büyük ölçüde alev aldi. Fakat, Sahil Güvenlik'in hizli müdahalesi ile 130 yolcu ve mürettebatin hepsi kurtarildi.

Kurtarma timinin lideri Lim Jae-cheol, dün yaptigi basin açiklamasinda sunlari söyledi: "Sayet kurtarma ekibi 1 saat daha geç kalsaydi, kaza büyük bir felakete dönüsebilirdi. Yolcularin direktiflerimize uyup o yönde hareket etmeleri, onlari daha kolay kurtarmamizda yardimci oldu."

Yanginin çikma nedeni hala arastiriliyor.

130 rescued from burning Jeju ferry

A major fire broke out on a passenger ferry traveling from Busan to Jeju yesterday after midnight (12:40), but quick action by the Coast Guard saved all 130 passengers and crew.

“If the rescue work was delayed by an hour, the accident could have been a massive disaster,” Lim Jae-cheol, leader of the rescue team, told local media yesterday. “As passengers maintained order, we were able to rescue them quickly.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
