Korean Firms Receive Hefty Fines over Cartel Activity

Koreli Firmalar Kartel Faaliyetlerinden Dolayi Agir Cezalar Aldi

Güney Koreli sirketler yurt disindaki antitröst düzenlemeleri ihlalden toplam 2.4 trilyon won (2 milyar ABD dolarindan fazla) cezalandirildi.

Seoul'deki Adil Ticaret Komisyonu, Koreli firmalarin tüm dünyadaki uluslararasi kartel faaliyetlerine karistiklari için cezaya çarptirildigini söyledi.

Gözlemci, 1996'dan beri verilen tüm para cezalarinin toplam rakamini gösterdigini ama çogunun Koreli is adamlarinin ciddi sekilde küresel pazara ilerlemesiyle son 5 yilda uygulamaya konuldugunu söyledi.

ABD 1.2 trilyon wonluk en büyük para cezasini verdi, Avrupa Birligi 700 ve Japonya 21 milyar wonla onu takip etti.

Antitröst düzenlemeleri uygulamada en etkin ABD oldu, ama Çin ve Japonya son zamanlarda kartel, birlesme veya devralmanin kendi ekonomilerini olumsuz etkilediklerine inanirlarsa benzer önlemleri aliyorlar.

South Korean companies have been fined a total of two-point-four trillion won or more than two billion U.S. dollars overseas for violating antitrust regulations.

The Fair Trade Commission in Seoul says Korean firms were slapped with the fines all over the world for their involvement in international cartel activities.

The watchdog says the total figure represents all fines levied since 1996 but most of them were imposed in the last five years as Korean businesses earnestly began advancing into the global market.

The United States issued the biggest fine at one-point-seven trillion won, followed by the European Union at 700 billion won and Japan at 21 billion won.

The U.S. has been the most active in implementing antitrust regulations, but China and Japan are also taking similar actions these days if they believe cartels, mergers or acquisitions overseas are adversely affecting their domestic economies.

Asian science park leaders meet in S.Korea

Asyali Bilim Sahasi Liderleri G. Kore'de Bulustu

Asya Bilim Sahasi Dernegi (ASPA) baskani Lee Jong-hyun, Güney Kore'nin tatil adasi Jeju'da düzenlenen ASPA Liderleri Bulusmasi'nda açilis konusmasini yapti. Çin, Japonya ve Avusturalya'nin da aralarinda bulundugu dokuz Asya ülkesinden 230 yetkilinin katildigi 3 gün sürecek olan toplantida bölgedeki bilim sahalari arasindaki degisimi destekleme yollari tartisilacak. Uluslararasi sivil toplum organizasyonu olan ASPA, Asya'daki bilimsel teknoloji, sanayi ve ekonomi alanlarindaki gelismelere katilim için 1997 yilinda Japonya'da kuruldu.

Consumer Sentiment Surges to 11-Month High

Tüketici Duyarliligi 11 Ayda Yükseldi

Ülkenin tüketici duyarliligi 11 ayda en yüksek seviyesine çikti.

Kore Bankasi çarsamba günü, bu ayki tüketici duyarliligi endeksinin (TDE) geçen aya göre 3 puan artarak 104 oldugunu açikladi. Nisan, büyüme elde edilen 4.ay oldu.

Endeks, tüm ekonomik durumun tüketici duyarliligini yansitiyor ve gelecekteki ekonomik kosullarla ilgili 100'ün üzerinde ölçüme göre, iyimserler kötümserlerden sayica üstün.

Gelecekteki ekonomi durum Mart'tan bu yana 8 puan artarak 90 olarak belirlenirken, cari ekonomik durumun ölçümü bir ay öncesine göre 7 puan artarak 77 olarak kaydedildi.

The nation’s consumer sentiment has surged to the highest level in eleven months.

The Bank of Korea announced on Wednesday that this month’s consumer sentiment index (CSI) stood at 104, up three points from last month. April marked the fourth month for the figure to yield growth.

The index reflects consumer sentiment of the overall economic situation, and a reading above 100 indicates that optimists outnumber pessimists regarding future economic conditions.

A reading of current economic conditions recorded 77, up seven points from a month ago, while the index for future economic conditions posted 90, up eight points from March.

Seoul to Host 2nd Global Green Growth Summit

Seoul 2. Küresel Yesil Büyüme Zirvesi'ne Ev Sahipligi Yapacak

Seoul, 10 Mayis'ta baslayacak iki günlük 2. Küresel Yesil Büyüme Zirvesi'ne ev sahipligi yapacak.

Güney Kore hükümeti ve Seoul merkezli Küresel Yesil Büyüme Enstitüsü (KYBE), Ekonomik Isbirligi ve Kalkinma ve Birlesmis Milletler Çevre Programi (BMÇP) ile ortaklasa isbirligi zirvesi düzenleyecek.

Zirve; yesil büyüme, iklim degisikligi ve çevre alanlarinda uluslararasi akademisyenler ve hükümet yetkililerini bir araya getirecek. Katilimcilar zirvede, yesil büyüme ve gelismemis ekonomiler için küresel yönetim üzerine görüsecekler.

Zirveye, BMÇP icra müdürü Achim Steiner, KYBE yönetim kurulu baskani Han Seung-soo, Softbank baskani Son Jeong ve Danimarka veliaht prensi Frederik'in de dahil oldugu birçok üst düzey kisi katilacak.

Seoul will host the second Global Green Growth Summit for two days starting May tenth.

The South Korean government and the Seoul-based Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) will jointly organize the summit with the cooperation of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the UN Environment Program (UNEP).

The summit will bring together international academics and government officials in the fields of green growth, climate change and the environment. Participants will hold discussions on global governance for green growth and green economies during the summit.

The summit will be attended by many high-ranking figures, including UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner, the GGGI’s Board of Directors Chairman Han Seung-soo, Softbank Chairman Son Jeong-ui and Danish Crown Prince Frederik.

Livestock farmers call for suspension of
U.S. beef import

Hayvan Çiftçileri ABD'nin Sigir Eti Ithalatini Durdurmasi Için Çagrida Bulundu

Ülkenin hayvan çiftligi dernekleri üyeleri, 27 Nisan 2012 günü, Kaliforniya'da görülen deli dana hastaligindan dolayi hükümetin ABD'den yapilan sigir eti ithalatini durdurmasi için Seoul'un kuzeyinde bulunan Gwacheon'daki ikinci hükümet binasinin önünde miting yaptilar. Dernekler, ölümcül hayvan hastaliklari sonrasinda ABD'den sigir eti ithalatina karsi ülke çapinda düzenlenen protestolar sonrasi 2008 yilinda hükümetin verdigi sözü hatirlatarak talepte bulundular. Son patlak veren haberin ardindan, Seoul hükümeti ABD sigir eti ithalatini askiya almaya karar verdi fakat karantina kontrollerini arttiracagini belirtti, eger hastalik halk sagligi için tehlike olusturursa hemen ithalati durdurmak için israrci olacaklarini belirtti.

The associations made the demand while recalling the government's 2008 promise to do so following a nationwide protest against the resumption of the import of U.S. beef after vehement controversy over the deadly animal disease. Following the latest outbreak, the Seoul government decided not to suspend U.S. beef imports but to increase quarantine checks, insisting it would immediately stop imports if the disease poses threats to public health.

S. Korea's current account tops US$3 bln in March

Güney Kore'nin Cari Hesabi Mart Ayinda 3 Milyar Dolari Geçti

Merkez Bankasi'nin cuma günü yaptigi açiklamaya göre, Güney Kore'nin cari hesap fazlasi mart ayinda, güçlü otomobil ve petrokimya ihracatlariyla desteklenerek, bir önceki aya göre ani bir sekilde artti.

Cari hesap fazlasi Kore Bankasi'na göre, bir önceki ayda borç olmaksizin yapilan sayimda 560 milyon dolardan, geçen ay 3.04 milyar dolara ulasti. Bu rakam, bir önceki fazlalik sayimdan 1.33 milyar dolar daha fazla.

South Korea's current account surplus widened sharply in March from the previous month, backed by strong auto and petrochmical exports, the central bank said Friday.

The current account surplus reached US$3.04 billion last month, up from $560 million in the black tallied in the previous month, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK). The figure is larger than the $1.33 billion surplus tallied a year earlier.
