PyeongChang Halki Olimpiyat Komitesini Karsiladi


Gangwon eyaletine bagli PyeongChang'da oturan vatandaslar, kis olimpiyatlari faaliyetleri çerçevesinde otobüs ile gezen uluslararasi olimpiyat komitesini 17 Subat günü karsiladi. Ayin 14'ünde Güney Kore'yi 2018 yili kis olimpiyatlari için degerlendirmeye alan komite 20'sine kadar bu ise devam edecek.

Güney Kore'nin üçüncü kez önerilen kis oyunlari adayliginin degerlendirilmesini bitiren Uluslararasi Olimpiyat Komitesi, PyeongChang'in gelisme kaydettigini söyledi.

Yapilan basin toplantisinda, komitenin degerlendirme ekibi baskani Gunilla Lindberg: "Önceki iki öneriden sonra bu öneride müthis bir ilerleme kaydedildigini gördük." dedi. "PyeongChang'in son önerisinden sonraki 4 yilda Kore kis sporlarinda da ilerleme oldugunu fark ettik." diye ekledi.

Ekibin 14 üyesi cumartesi günü, denetlemeyi bitirdi. Degerlendirmeciler birçok sunuma katildi ve Seoul'ün 180 kilometre dogusunda Gangwon Eyaleti'ndeki olimpik yer olarak kullanilabilecek alanlari ziyaret etti.

Evaluators from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said Saturday they have noted improvement on PyeongChang, as they concluded their inspection of the South Korean Winter Games candidate in its third Olympic bid.

"We have seen great progress in the bid from the two previous bids," said Gunilla Lindberg, head of the IOC's evaluation team, at a press conference. "We have also seen progress in Korean winter sports during the last four years (since PyeongChang's last bid)."

The 14-member IOC team wrapped up its inspection of PyeongChang on Saturday. Evaluators attended hours of presentations and visited potential Olympic venues in and around Pyeongchang, located about 180 kilometers east of Seoul in Gangwon Province.

Figure skater Kim Yu-na retains top spot despite long absence
SEOUL, Feb. 23 (Yonhap) -- South Korean female figure skater Kim Yu-na remained at the top of the world standings, despite not having competed for the past 12 months.

According to the International Skating Union (ISU), Kim, the 2010 Vancouver Olympic gold medalist, kept her No. 1 spot for the 14th straight month at 4,024 points. Akiko Suzuki of Japan was second at 4,010 points, followed by Carolina Kostner of Italy at 3,875 points.

The ISU awards points to skaters based on their performances in ISU-sanctioned events, including the Winter Olympics, world championships, European championships, Grand Prix series and Four Continents Championships, which are open to non-European competitors.

Kim has not skated competitively since finishing second at the previous world championships last March. But during the 2009-10 season, she won the Olympic gold medal, the Grand Prix final and two Grand Prix events. In the season before that, Kim was the champion at the worlds and at the Four Continents.

Gov't to send sports instructors to all elementary schools

Hükümet Tüm Ilkokullara Spor Egitmenleri Gönderecek

Kültür Bakanliginin persembe günü bildirdigine göre hükümet, ögrencilerin fiziksel durumlarini ve dis mekan faaliyetlerini gelistirmek için gelecek yila kadar tüm ilkokullara spor uzmanlari gönderecek.

Kültür, Turizm ve Spor Bakanliginin yayinladigi plana göre, 2012'ye kadar ülkedeki 5,854 ilkokulda ögrenciler için açik hava spor programlarini güçlendirmek üzere spor egitmenleri görev alacak.

The culture ministry said Thursday that the government will dispatch sports specialists to all elementary schools nationwide by next year to help improve students' physical condition and outdoor activities.

According to a policy plan revealed by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports, all 5,854 elementary schools in the country will hire sports instructors by 2012 to strengthen outdoor sports programs for pupils.

South Korean men's national football team will host Honduras and Montenegro in two friendly matches scheduled for next month.

The Korea Football Association (KFA) announced Thursday that South Korea will take on Honduras on March 25 at Seoul World Cup Stadium, and then Montenegro on March 29 at Suwon World Cup Stadium. Both games will start at 8 p.m.

Brian Orser, former coach of South Korean figure skater Kim Yu-na, will be in South Korea for the first time since their acrimonious split last summer.

Orser will travel with an American junior skater Christina Gao for the Feb. 28-March 6 World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Gangneung, about 240 kilometers east of Seoul in Gangwon Province.

South Korean striker Park Chu-young, who plays with French team AS Monaco, has netted two goals on Sunday morning, Korea time.

They were Park’s eighth and ninth goals of the season and is a new record for the number of goals for him in a regular season.

However, Monaco had to settle for a tie after the other team, SM Caen, scored two goals in the second half.

Park played full-time in the home match against SM Caen for the French pro soccer league 2010-2011 season.
