Scientists Remove Faulty DNA in Human Embryos

Bilim İnsanları, İnsan Embriyolarındaki Hatalı DNA'yı Kaldırdı

Güney Kore ve ABD'li bilim insanlarından oluşan bir ekip, insan embriyolarındaki iyileştirilemeyen hastalıklara neden olan DNA'nın genetik kusurunu düzeltmek için bir başarıya imza attılar.

Bilim ve BİT Bakanlığı Temel Bilimler (IBS) ve Oregon Sağlık ve Bilim Üniversitesi Enstitüsü (OHSU) araştırmacılarının Perşembe günü yaptığı açıklamada, yeni bir gen düzenleme tekniği kullanılmış ve neden insan embriyosunun mutasyona uğramış genlerin düzeltilmesinde ve Hipertrofik kardiyomiyopati denilen kalp rahatsızlığının çözümü konusunda başarılı adımlar atıldığı bildirildi.

Ekip, CRISPR-Cas9 olarak bilinen güçlü gen düzenleme aracını kullanmaktadır.

Klinik testlerden sonra ticari tekniğin, suni tohumlama aşamasında hastalığa neden olan mutasyonu düzelterek birçok genetik hastalıkların önlenmesine yardımcı olması bekleniyor.

Bulgular, Nature dergisinin Çarşamba baskısında yayınlandı.

A team of South Korean and U.S. scientists has successfully edited the DNA in human embryos to correct a genetic defect causing incurable diseases.

The Ministry of Science and ICT said on Thursday that the researchers from the Institute for Basic Science(IBS) and Oregon Health and Science University(OHSU) used a new gene-editing technique and succeeded in correcting the mutated gene in human embryos which causes the heart disorder called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

The team used the powerful gene-editing tool known as CRISPR-Cas9.

The technique, if commercialized after clinical tests, is expected to help prevent many genetic diseases by correcting disease-causing mutation at the stage of artificial insemination.

The findings were published in the Wednesday edition of the science journal Nature.

Samsung Elec. registers more than 19 patents per day in U.S.

Samsung Electronics ABD'de Günlük 19'dan Fazla Patent Kaydetti

ABD 'nin çevrimiçi gazetesi Quartz'ın verilerine göre, Samsung Electronics tarafından 1 Ağustos'a kadar günlük ortalama 19.5 patentle toplamda 4.143 patent kayda geçti.

Aynı dönemde toplam 5.979 patenti bulunan IBM Corp.'ın ardından, patent kayıtlarına göre teknoloji firmaları arasında dünyanın en büyük ekonomisinde ikinci sırada yer aldı.

Intel Corp. 2.064 ile üçüncü oldu ardından 1.775 ile Google Inc. ve 1.673 ile Microsoft Corp. geldi.

SEOUL, Aug. 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. registered an average of 19 patents per day in the United States in the first seven months of the year, industry data showed Sunday.

According to the data by U.S. online journal Quartz, a total of 4,143 patents were registered by Samsung Electronics through Aug. 1, with a daily 19.5 patents on average.

It ranked second among technology firms in terms of patent registers in the world's largest economy, after IBM Corp., which posted 5,797 patents in total over the same period.

Intel Corp. came third with 2,064 registers, followed by Google Inc. with 1,775 and Microsoft Corp. with 1,673.

Com2uS' Overseas Sales Surpass 100 Bln Won in Q2

Com2uS'in Yurtdışı Satışları İkinci Çeyrekte 100 Milyar Wonu Geçti

Güney Kore online ve mobil oyun yayıncısı Com2uS Corp., Salı günü yaptığı açıklamada yurtdışı pazarındaki satışların ikinci çeyrekte, arka arkaya ise yedinci çeyrekte 100 milyar wonu (88.9 milyon $) aştığını söyledi.

Yurtiçinde üretilen oyunun yapımcısı, Güney Kore dışındaki üç aylık satışlarının toplam gelirinin yüzde 87'sini oluşturduğu Nisan-Haziran döneminde 112,3 milyar wona yükseldiğini söyledi.

Şirket, faaliyet karının yıllık % 0.7 artışla 49 milyar wona yükseldiğini ve satışların da yıllık % 2.2 artış gösterdiğini açıkladı.

1998'de kurulan Com2uS, "Summoners Wars" da dahil olmak üzere, denizaşırı ülkelerden elde edilen gelirlerle 1 trilyon won’un üzerine çıkmış en başarılı mobil ve çevrimiçi oyunlardan bazılarını üretti.

Com2uS Corp., a South Korean online and mobile game publisher, said Tuesday its sales in the overseas market for the second quarter surpassed the 100 billion-won (US$88.9 million) mark for the seventh quarter in a row.

The homegrown gamemaker said its quarterly sales outside of South Korea came to 112.3 billion won during the April-June period, accounting for 87 percent of its total revenue.

The company said its operating profit inched up 0.7 percent on-year to 49 billion won during the same period, with sales also moving up 2.2 percent on-year.

Com2uS, established in 1998, has produced some of the most successful mobile and online games, including "Summoners War," which has raked in more than 1 trillion won in revenues from overseas.

Modeller 8 Ekim 2017'de Seoul'deki bir parkta SK Telekom Co.'nun taşınabilir yapay zeka (AI) cihazı olan NUGU’yu sergiledi. Güney Kore'nin en büyük mobil operatörü Eylül ayından bu yana NUGU'dan yaklaşık 150.000 adet satmakta. SK Telekom, NUGU Mini'nin müzik akışı, internet ürünlerini çözümleri, program yönetimi ve hava durumu uyarıları da dâhil olmak üzere orijinaliyle aynı özelliklere sahip olacağını söyledi.

Samsung Showcases Top-Notch V-NAND Memory Solution

Samsung, Birinci Sınıf V-NAND Bellek Çözümünü Sergiliyor

Samsung Electronics Co, Çarşamba günü veri işleme ve depolama sistemleri alanındaki teknolojik gelişmeleri ve pazar talebini artırmayı hedefleyen 1 terabayt V-NAND chip’ini tanıttı.

Şirket, "Gelecek yıl 1 TB'lık bir V-NAND yongasının üretilmesi, 1 Tb'lik kalıpları istifleyerek tek bir V-NAND pakette 2 terabaytlık bellek sağlayacak ve son on yılın en önemli bellek gelişmelerinden birini temsil edecek " diyerek açıklama yaptı.

Bir terabayt yaklaşık 128 GB'a eşittir, bu da iki saatlik yüksek çözünürlüklü 60 filmi saklamak için yeterlidir.

Samsung, V-NAND teknolojisinin önceki 2D NAND teknolojisinin kapasite sınırlarını yüksek bir tasarımla aşmasının önem taşıdığını söyledi.

Samsung Electronics Co. on Wednesday introduced a 1-terabit (Tb) V-NAND chip, which aims to meet growing market demand and technological developments in the field of data processing and storage systems.

"The arrival of a 1Tb V-NAND chip next year will enable 2 terabytes of memory in a single V-NAND package by stacking 1 Tb dies and will represent one of the most important memory advances of the past decade," the company said.

A terabit is equal to around 128GB, which is enough to store around 60 two-hour high-definition movies.

Samsung said the V-NAND technology is significant as it overcomes the limits of the previous 2D NAND technology in terms of capacity through a vertical design.

"With the rapid increase of data-intensive applications across many industries using artificial intelligence and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, the role of flash memory has become extremely critical in accelerating the speed at which information can be extracted for real-time analysis," the company added.

Samsung also showcased Next Generation Small Form Factor (NGSFF) SSD, which can significantly improve storage capacity. The company said the new solution can increase the storage capacity by four times compared with previous solutions.

The mass production of the NGSFF SSD will begin in the fourth quarter of 2017, it added.
