Lee Participates in Volunteer Work in Ethiopia

Lee, Etiyopya’daki Gönüllü Çalismalarina Katildi

Devlet Baskani Lee Myung-bak ve esi Kim Yoon-ok, Kore Savasi sirasinda Afrika ulusu askerlerinin yardimlarini geri ödemek için sembolik bir jest olarak Etiyopya’nin baskenti Addis Ababa’nin fakir bir köyündeki gönüllü çalismalara katildi.

Güney Kore devlet baskani ve esi, Etiyopya’nin baskentinde yoksullukla mücadele eden mahallelerden biri olan Kebena Köyü’nü ziyaret etti.

Orada yasayanlara cesaret verici sözler söylediler ve dezenfeksiyon ve karantina faaliyetlerine katildilar.

President Lee Myung-bak and First Lady Kim Yoon-ok have engaged in volunteer works in a poor village in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa in a symbolic gesture of repaying the African nation troops' help during the Korean War.

The South Korean president and first lady visited Kebena Village, one of the four major poverty-stricken neighborhoods in the Ethiopian capital.

They offered encouraging words to residents and participated in disinfection and quarantine activities.

S. Korea, South Sudan establish diplomatic ties


Güney Kore ve Güney Sudan arasinda diplomatik iliskiler kuruluyor

Güney Kore disisleri bakanligi bugün yaptigi açiklamayla dünyanin en yeni bagimsiz ülkesi olan Güney Sudan’a tebriklerini dile getirdigini ve iki ülke arasindaki diplomatik iliskilerin kuruldugunu söyledi.

Güney Kore Kabine Baskani Lee Jae-oh ve Güney Sudan Disisleri Bakani Deng Alor Kuol bu cumartesi diplomatik bir anlasma imzaladilar.

“Hükümet, Güney Sudan Cumhuriyeti ile diplomatik iliskilerin kurulmasi ile birlikte ortak amaçlar dogrultusunda isbirligi yapmayi planliyor” diye açiklama yapildi.

Özel mevzularda baskanlik görevi yapan iktidardaki Büyük Ulusal Parti idarecilerinden Avukat Lee Cumartesi günü Güney Sudan’in Kuzey’e resmen bagimsizligini ilan ettigi törene katildi.

Güney Sudan halki ocak ayinda yapilan yeni bir ülke oylamasini ezici bir çogunlukla onayladi.

South Korea's foreign ministry said Sunday it has established diplomatic relations with South Sudan, expressing congratulations for the formal independence of the world's newest state.

The diplomatic accord was signed in South Sudan between South Korean Cabinet minister Lee Jae-oh and Deng Alor Kuol, the African nation's foreign minister on Saturday, the ministry said in a statement.

"With the establishment of diplomatic ties, the government plans to strengthen cooperation with the Republic of South Sudan in relevant areas," the statement said.

Lee, a lawmaker of the ruling Grand National Party (GNP), who doubles as a minister for special affairs, attended a ceremony Saturday where South Sudan officially declared independence from the North.

The people of South Sudan voted overwhelmingly in January to create a new country.

Seul, 11 Temmuz (Yonhap) – Maliye Bakanligi’nin Pazartesi günü yaptigi açiklamada, Güney Kore Demokratik Cumhuriyeti’nin Kongo Cumhuriyeti, Etiyopya ve Afrika ülkelerinin kendi sanayi altyapisinin olusturulmasina yardimci olmak üzere ekonomik gelisimi için destegini artiracagini açikladi.

Devlet Baskani Lee Myung-bak, son zamanlarda Afrika kitasina yaptigi 10 günlük yolculugun bir parçasi olarak, iki ülkeyi ziyaret etti. Yaptigi ziyaretler sirasinda, Güney Kore, Ekonomik Kalkinma ve Isbirligi Fonu’nun (EDCF) Afrika ülkeleri için destek saglamak için yardimci olacagini belirtti.

Güney Kore, EDCF, 1987 yilinda düsük faizli krediler ile daha az gelismis ülkelerdeki fakirlere yardim baslatan, devlet tarafindan isletilen bir fondur. Bakanlik fonun, 2.6 trilyon won (2,46 milyar ABD Dolari) altinda yönetildigini de açikladi.

S. Korea to step up development support for Congo, Ethiopia:

SEOUL, July 11 (Yonhap) -- South Korea will intensify its support for economic development in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ethiopia to help the African countries build their industrial infrastructure, the finance ministry said Monday.

The move comes after President Lee Myung-bak recently visited the two countries as part of his 10-day trip to the African continent. During his visit, South Korea agreed to provide support for the African nations by tapping its Economic Development and Cooperation Fund (EDCF).

The EDCF is a state-run fund that South Korea launched in 1987 to help poor and less developed countries through low-interest loans. About 2.6 trillion won (US$2.46 billion) is now being managed under the fund, the ministry said.

Red Cross officials of two Koreas hold informal talks:

SEOUL, July 11 (Yonhap) -- Red Cross officials from the two Koreas held informal talks on the sidelines of an international conference in China last week, a South Korean Red Cross official said Monday.

Kim Yong-hyun, secretary-general of the South's Red Cross, and Paek Yong-ho, vice chairman of the Central Committee of the Red Cross Society of North Korea, met during breaks at the East Asian regional Red Cross leadership meeting in Ordos City, located in China's Inner Mongolia, between last Tuesday and Thursday, the official said on the condition of anonymity.

Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin is set to meet with Swiss Defense Minister Ueli Maurer at the Defense Ministry in Yongsan, Seoul, on Tuesday.

The two defense chiefs will exchange opinions about regional security situations and the role and tasks of the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission.

Baskan Lee Myung Bak kaynak zengini ülkelerden Güney Kore’nin PyeongChang’in 2018 kis olimpiyatlarina ev sahipligi yapmasi hakkinda destegini almak ve iliskileri güçlendirmek için gittigi Afrika gezisinden bugün döndü.

Lee’nin 10 günlük Güney Afrika gezisi ile Güney Afrika sehri Durban’da düzenlenen Uluslararasi Olimpiyat Komitesi oylamasinda Demokratik Kongo Cumhuriyeti ve Etiyopya sayesinde Pyeongchang’in diger aday sehirleri (Almanya-Munih,Fransa-Annecy) ezici bir galibiyetle geride biraktigini vurguladi.

Durban’da Lee, nükleer reaktörlerin insasi, enerji santralleri de dahil olmak üzere nükleer enerji isbirligini gelistirmek, yatirim ve ticaret ile iki ülke arasindaki ekonomik baglari güçlendirmek amaciyla Güney Afrika Cumhurbaskani Jacop Zuma ile zirve görüsmeleri yaptilar.

Kongo'da, Lee ve Cumhurbaskani Joseph Kabila Kore'nin teknolojisini ve Kongo’nun zengin dogal kaynaklarin birlikte kullanarak savasin parçaladigi bir ulusu yeniden insa etmek için birlikte çalismaya karar verdiler.

1950-53 Kore Savasi sirasinda Güney Kore’ye askeri birlik gönderen tek siyah Afrikali ülke Etiyopya’ydi. 6000’den fazla birlik göndermisti ve 120’den fazla asker Kuzey Kore’yle savasirken sehit düsmüstü. Bu yüzden Baskanin Etiyopya gezisi ayri bir anlam tasiyordu.

Basbakan Meles Zenavi ile zirve görüsmelerinde, Güney Kore savasin küllerinden sonra kendini hizla toparlayarak dünyanin büyük ekonomilerinden biri olma konusunda tecrübeli oldugundan neyin nasil olabilecegini bildigi için, Lee Etiyopya’nin ekonomik kalkinmasi için aktif destek verme sözü verdi.

Lee ayni zamanda yoksullukla mücadele eden iki Etiyopya köyünde gönüllü çalismalara katildi.

President Lee Myung-bak returned home Monday from a three-nation African trip aimed at helping South Korea's PyeongChang win the right to host the 2018 Winter Olympics and strengthening relations with the resource-rich continent.

The highlight of Lee's 10-day trip to South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ethiopia was PyeongChang's overwhelming victory over rivals -- Germany's Munich and France's Annecy -- in the International Olympic Committee vote held in South Africa's Durban.

In Durban, Lee also held summit talks with South African President Jacob Zuma, agreeing to enhance nuclear energy cooperation, including building atomic reactors and power plants, and to boost investment and trade in order to strengthen economic ties between the two nations.

In Congo, Lee and President Joseph Kabila agreed to work together to rebuild the war-torn nation through a combination of Korea's technologies and Congo's rich natural resources.

The trip to Ethiopia was meaningful in that it was the only black African nation that shed blood for South Korea during the 1950-53 Korean War, with more than 6,000 Ethiopian troops fighting alongside the South and more than 120 of them killed in battles with North Korea.

In summit talks with Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, Lee pledged to provide active support for Ethiopia's economic development, providing the country with the know-how and experience of South Korea's rapid development from the war's ashes to one of the world's largest economies.

Lee also engaged in volunteer work at two poverty-stricken Ethiopian villages.

DM to Visit China

Savunma Bakani Çin’i Ziyaret Edecek

Savunma Bakani Kim Kwan-jin persembe günü, Çin Savunma Bakani Liang Guanglie’nin daveti üzerine Çin’e üç günlük ziyarette bulunacak.

Iki savunma bakani Kuzey Kore ve Kuzeydogu Asya güvenlik durumu ile ilgili sorunlar hakkinda görüs alisverisi için cuma günü bir toplanti yapacak. Toplantinin ardindan, ortak bir basin toplantisi yapmalari bekleniyor.

Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin will make a three-day visit to China from Thursday at the invitation of Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie.

The two defense chiefs will hold a meeting on Friday to exchange opinions about issues related to North Korea and the security situation in Northeast Asia. Following the meeting, they are expected to announce a joint media statement.

UM Not Considering Joint Hosting of Olympics with NK

Birlesme Bakanligi Olimpiyatlara Kuzey Kore ile Katilmayi Düsünmüyor

Birlesme Bakanligi, hükümetin 2018 Kis Olimpiyatlari için Kuzey Kore ile ortak bir ev sahipligi düsünmedigini söyledi.

Bakanlik sözcüsü bugün yaptigi bir açiklama da bu konuyla ilgili söyleyecek bir sey olmadigini söyledi. Lee, asil konunun Kuzey Kore topraklarinda olan Geumgang Dagina konaklamak için gelen olimpiyat misafirlerinin güvenligini saglamak oldugunu belirtti.

The Unification Ministry says the government is not considering a joint hosting of the 2018 Winter Olympics with North Korea.

Ministry spokeswoman Lee Jong-joo told a briefing Wednesday that there is nothing to say about the matter. Lee said the issue that should be focused on at this time is securing safety guarantees for South Korean visitors to North Korea including to the Mount Geumgang resort.

Following South Korea's winning bid to host the Winter Games last week, some had raised the possibility that South and North Korea would jointly host the events.

The aim of the project is to support the self-sufficiency and social participation of people over 100 years old.
The Finance Ministry says it will further discuss these principles with other ministries to develop policies and achieve concrete measures.
