Ban reelected as U.N. chief for bridge-building role:

BM’de Ban Ikinci Kez Seçildi:

NEW YORK, Haziran 22 (Yonhap) - Birlesmis Milletler Genel Kurulu’nun aldigi karar neticesinde, daha iyi ve barisçil bir dünya için yaptigi özverili hizmetler nedeniyle Ban Ki-moon, bes yil için daha 192 üyeli organizasyonun liderligine getirildi.

67 yasindaki Güney Kore eski disisleri bakani, uluslararasi toplumdaki iklim degisikligi, yoksulluk ve çesitli bölgelerde yasanan sert çatismalarin yarattigi sorunlarin çözümünde gösterdigi basarili çalismalar nedeniyle oybirligi ile bu göreve yeniden seçildi. Ban, 2007 yilinda bu göreve getirilmisti, görevinin ikinci dönemi ise gelecek yil baslayacak.

NEW YORK, June 22 (Yonhap) -- The United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday gave Ban Ki-moon a mandate to lead the 192-member organization for another five years, apparently in recognition of his dedicated service for a better and peaceful world.

The unanimous reelection of the 67-year-old former South Korean foreign minister comes as the international community faces a number of tough challenges from conflicts in several regions to climate change and poverty. Ban was inaugurated in 2007 and his second term begins next year.

22 Haziran YEONGI, Güney Kore - Güney Kore ordusunun 32. Piyade Tümeni askerleri, 20 Haziran'da Güney Chungcheong eyaletinin Yeongi bölgesinde 1950-1953 yillari arasindaki Kore Savasi sirasinda öldürülen Amerikan askerlerinin savas sonrasi kalintilarini bulmak için kazi çalismalari yapti. ABD, Kuzey Kore’nin istilasina karsi yapilan savas sirasinda Güney Kore için savasan 16 ülkeden biridir.

Excavation work for remains of U.S. soldiers underway:

June 22, YEONGI, South Korea -- Soldiers from the South Korean army's 32nd Infantry Division excavate the remains of U.S. soldiers who were killed during the 1950-53 Korean War at a then-battlefield in Yeongi, South Chungcheong Province, on June 20. The United States is one of 16 countries which fought for South Korea against invading North Korea during the war.

Güney Kore bati sinirindaki adalarda yasam kosullarini iyilestirecek

Hükümet, Güney Kore’nin 10 yildan beri Kuzey’den gelen saldirilarla yasayan sinira yakin 5 bati adasinda yasayanlari desteklemek için; içinde özel yatirimlarinda bulundugu bir proje paketi için toplam 910 milyar won (843 milyon dolar) kullanilacagini açikladi.

Basbakanliga göre, projeler hükümetin gelecek saldirilara karsi güvenlik önlemlerine takviye yapmasi, istihdam olusturmak için yerel ekonomiyi gelistirmesi ve gelir düzeyini yükseltmesi ile adalarda yasayanlarin yasam kosullarinin iyilestirilmesini saglayacak.

S. Korea to improve living conditions on western border islands

South Korea will use a total of 910 billion won (US$843 million), including private investment, in a package of projects to support residents on five western border islands for the next 10 years since they live under constant threats from the North, the government said Wednesday.

The projects call for the government to improve living conditions for residents on the islands, while beefing up safety measures against future attacks and boosting local economies to create jobs and improving income levels, according to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
