UPP Chief Announces She Will Redo Primaries

BIP Esbaskani Ön Seçimleri Tekrarlayacagini Söyledi

Muhalefet partisi Birlesmis Ilerici Parti'nin (BIP) Esbaskani Lee Jung-hee, Seoul'ün Gwanak-B seçmen bölgesine seçilecek birlesik muhalefet adayi için yinelenen ön seçimlere katilacak.

Esbaskan kararini sali günü ögleden sonra yaptigi basin toplantisiyla duyurdu. Durum, Lee, sali günü erkenden, yardimcilarindan birinin ön seçimler boyunca kamuoyu yoklamalari çekismesini kazanmasina yardim edecek anket sonuçlarini çarpitma girisiminde bulundugu yönündeki suçlamalara iliskin özrünü sunduktan sonra yoluna girdi.

Lee'nin adi, ana muhalefet Demokratik Birlesmis Parti'nin milletvekili Kim Hee-chul'ün kamuoyu yoklamasinda üstesinden gelebilmek için, cumartesi günü Seoul'ün güneyindeki Gwanak-B bölgesi için muhalefetlerin birlesik adayi olarak gösterildi.

Soyadi Cho, ile bilinen Lee'nin yardimcisi, seçim günü insanlara yaslari konusunda yalan söylemeleri konusunda açikça baski yapan bir mesaj gönderdi. Böylece cevaplari yoklama sonuçlarina yansiyabilecekti.
DBP milletvekili Kim, sali günü KBS ile yaptigi röportajinda, söz konusu mesaji açiga çikaran iddialarda bulundu.

Kim, mesajin pazartesi günü eline geçtigini ve çarsamba günü bu duruma iliskin bir basin toplantisi yapmayi planladigini söyledi.

Co-Chairwoman Lee Jung-hee of the minor opposition Unified Progressive Party (UPP) will take part in a rerun of the primaries to elect a unified opposition candidate for the Gwanak-B constituency in Seoul.

She announced her decision at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon. This comes right after Lee offered an apology earlier Tuesday regarding an allegation that one of her aides had attempted to distort survey results to help her win an opinion poll contest during the primaries.

Lee on Saturday was named the opposition’s unified candidate for Gwanak-B district in southern Seoul, beating main opposition Democratic United Party (DUP) lawmaker Kim Hee-chul in the opinion poll.

Lee’s aide, identified by his surname Cho, allegedly sent text messages the day of the primary, urging people to lie about their age so that their answers would be reflected in the poll results.

DUP lawmaker Kim on Tuesday made the claim in an interview with KBS, disclosing the text messages in question.

Kim said that he obtained the messages on Monday and he plans to hold a news conference on Wednesday

Opposition Parties' Alliance Rattled by Survey Distortion Scandal

Muhalefet Partilerinin Ittifaki Çarpitilan Anket Skandaliyla Bozuldu

Ana muhalefetteki Demokrat Birlesik Partisi (DBP) ve ikinci muhalefet Birlesik Ilerici Partisi (BIP) çarpitilan kamuoyu yoklamasi skandalinin sonuçlarindan anlasmazliga düstüler.

DUP milletvekili (Kim Hee-chul) çarsamba günü, BIP Baskani Lee Jung-hee'nin genel seçim adayligindan geri çekilmesini, ilermenin gücünün temel esasinin ahlak oldugunu vurgulayarak istedi.

Ama Lee, adayligini geri çekmeyecegini söyledi.

Lee sali günü, yardimcilarindan birinin anket sonuçlarini çarpitarak kamuoyu yoklamasini birinci sirada kazanmasini saglama tesebbüsüyle ilgili iddiayla ilgili özür diledi.

Lee'nin yardimcisi (soyadi Cho olarak belirlenen) iddiaya göre, birinci günde insanlari yaslari hakkinda yalan söylemesini söyleyerek mesajlar gönderdi, böylece cevaplari ankete yansiyacakti.

The main opposition Democratic United Party (DUP) and the minor Unified Progressive Party (UPP) are at odds over a scandal regarding the distortion of opinion poll results.

DUP lawmaker, Kim Hee-chull, on Wednesday urged UPP Chairwoman Lee Jung-hee to withdraw her candidacy for the general elections, stressing morality is the basic foundation of progressive forces.

But Lee says she will not withdraw her candidacy.

Lee apologized on Tuesday regarding allegations that one of her aides attempted to distort survey results to help her win an opinion poll contest during the primary.

Lee’s aide, identified by his surname Cho, allegedly sent text messages the day of the primary, urging people to lie about their age so their answers would be reflected in the poll.

The chairwoman announced she will take part in a rerun of the primary to elect a unified opposition candidate for the Gwanak-B constituency in Seoul.

The DUP’s leadership is refraining from acting on the recent incident apparently out of concerns the issue could lead to the dissolution of the alliance between the DUP and UPP.

Lee, yardimcilarindan birinin kamuoyu yoklamasi sonuçlarini çarpitarak seçim bölgesinden kazanan aday olarak çikarilmasi tesebbüsü iddialarindan dolayi elestirilmisti.

Baskan, gelecek nisan genel seçimleri kampanyasina baslamadan önce cuma günü Ulusal Seçim Komisyonu'na kayit yaptirmayi planliyordu.

DUP Calls on Prosecution to Stop Interfering in Elections

DBP Seçimlere Müdahaleyi Durdurmak Için Sorusturma Çagrisi Yapti

Ana muhalefet partisi Demokratik Birlesmis Parti (DBP), Parti Esbaskani Han Myeong-sook'un sag kolu hakkindaki sorusturma davasinin seçimlere müdahale hakkinda oldugunu söyledi.

Baskanin sag kolundan, gelecek ayki seçimlerde aday olabilmesi için, bir adaya adaylik seçilerini kazanmasina yardimci olmak için rüsvet aldigindan süpheleniliyor.

Parti sözcüsü, cuma günü, savciligin DBP'nin ve Han'in itibarina zarar vermek için saldiriya basladigini, söyledigi bir bildiri yayimladi.

Sözcü, tam da bu nedenle savcilik reformunun uzun zamandir ertelenen uluslararasi bir görev oldugunu söyledi.

The main opposition Democratic United Party (DUP) says the prosecution's investigation of a close aide of party Chairwoman Han Myeong-sook is interfering with the general elections.

The aide is suspected of taking bribes to help a candidate win a nomination to run in next month's elections.

A party spokesman issued a statement Friday saying the prosecution has begun its attack to damage the reputation of the DUP and Han.

The spokesman said this is the very reason why prosecutorial reform is a national task that can no longer be put off.

2012 Seoul Nükleer Güvenlik Zirvesi gündemi, "Güvenlikten Öte Barisa Dogru" temasiyla cumartesi günü basladi.

Güney Kore Devlet Baskani Lee Myung-bak, cumartesi günü, Tayland Basbakani Yingluck Shinawatra ile zirve toplantilari yapacak ve iki ülke arasindaki ekonomik isbirligi hakkinda tartisacak.

The agenda for the 2012 Seoul Nuclear Security Summit kicked off on Saturday, themed “Beyond Security Towards Peace.”

President Lee Myung-bak will hold summit talks Saturday with Thailand Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and discuss economic cooperation between the two countries.

Lee will also meet with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The two will discuss cooperation between the United Nations and South Korea for the successful hosting of the nuclear summit as well as measures to respond to North Korea’s plan to launch a long range missile next month.
