Chuncheon Landslide Death Toll Rises to 13

Chuncheon Heyelaninda Ölü Sayisi 13’e çikti

Chuncheon, Gangwon Eyaletinde 13 kisi agir yagmur ve heyelanlar yüzünden hayatini kaybetti.

Ulusal Acil Durum Yönetimi Ajansi Ofisi, Gangwon eyaletinde halktan 3 kisinin ve de Chuncheon'a gönüllü olarak gelen 10 üniversite ögrencisinin hayatini kaybettigini söyledi. 26 kisinin de yaralandigini ve bölge hastanelerinde tedavi edildigini de ekledi.

Ajans; dün gece heyelanin, 40 turistin ve ögrencilerin kaldigi pansiyonun etrafini silip süpürdügünü söyledi. Ögrenciler Chuncheon'a gönüllü çalismak için gelmislerdi, bölgedeki ilkögretim çagindaki çocuklara pazartesinden beri ögretmenlik yapiyorlardi.

Dünden beri siddetli yagislar 40 kazaya sebep oldu ve pek çok yolu kapadi.

Gyeonggi Eyaleti ve Kuzey Seoul'de heyelanin topragi süpürüp götürmesinden sonra nehirler doldu ve yürüyüse çikan 4 kisi hala kayip.

Bugün erken saatlerde meydana gelen heyelan Seoul ve Chuncheon arasindaki karayolunu süpürüp götürdü. Yolun Namyangju, Seojong kavsagi ve Seoul arasinda kalan 13 kilometrelik bölümü ve Seoral, Hwado kavsagi ve Chuncheon arasindaki 16 kilometrelik bölümü kapatildi. Seoul'un dogusundaki ve güneyindeki karayollari da kapatildi.

Yagmur sularininn Seoul Metro istasyonuna zarar vermesinden dolayi metro seferleri de kesintiye ugradi.

Thirteen people have died in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province due to landslides triggered by heavy rain.

The National Emergency Management Agency office in Gangwon Province says three local residents and ten college students who were volunteering in Chuncheon were killed. It says 26 others were injured and are being treated at four area hospitals.

The agency says the landslide swept through the area around midnight Tuesday where some 40 tourists and students were staying at a pension. The students went to Chuncheon for a volunteer mission and have been teaching local elementary school children since Monday.

Overall, torrential rains have caused over 40 casualties and closed off many roads since Tuesday.

The heavy rains have bloated rivers, and four hikers are still missing after being swept away in areas of Gyeonggi province and Northern Seoul.

Early Wednesday morning, a landslide swept over a stretch of highway between Seoul and Chuncheon. A 13-kilometer section of road was closed between Namyangju and Seojong interchange and Seoul, and a 16-kilometer section between Seorak and Hwado interchange and Chuncheon was closed as well. Parts of main roads in eastern and southern Seoul were also closed off.

Rail transportation took a hit as well when flood waters disrupted Seoul Metro operations. Normal subway operations have yet to resume.

Torrential Rains Heavily Damage Educational Institutions

Saganak Yagmurlar Egitim Kurumlarina Agir Zarar Verdi

Merkez bölgede birkaç gündür siddetle devam eden yagmur, okullarda ve egitim veren devlet kurumlarinda yaklasik olarak 3 milyar won zarara neden oldu.

Egitim Bakanligi Cuma gecesi yaptigi açiklama da 114 egitim kurumunun, siddetli yagis ve seller yüzünden zarara ugradigini söyledi. 45 okul sular altinda kaldi ve 29 okulunun da duvarlarinda hasar meydana geldi. 40 binada da sizintilar olustu.

Çogu okullarin onarimina baslandi ama sadece geçici önlemler alindi.

Bakanlik okullara kisa sürede finansal destek vereceklerini söyledi.

Heavy rainfall that pounded the central region for several days has caused roughly three billion won worth of damages to schools and education-related government agencies.

The Ministry of Education said that as of midnight Friday, 114 educational institutions suffered damage amid the torrential rains and resulting floods. Forty-five schools were flooded and 29 had physical damage to their facilities including collapsed walls. Another 40 buildings suffered leaks.

Repairs have begun at many of the schools but most have only seen temporary measures.

The ministry says it will offer financial support to the schools as soon as possible.

Ceremony Held for Policeman Killed in Flood Rescue

Sel Kurtarma Çalismalarinda Ölen Kahraman Polis Memuru Için Tören

Gyeonggi Eyalet Polis Teskilati, sel sularinda bir vatandasi kurtarirken vefat eden polis memuru için bu sabah cenaze merasimi düzenlendi.

Daha 21 yasinda olan polis memuru Cho Min-soo, persembe günü sel sularinin sürüklemesiyle Seoul'un kuzeyindeki Dongducheon'da ölü bulunmustu. Çarsamba gecesi dikenli tellere tutunup yardim isteyen bir vatandasi kurtarmaya çalisiyordu. Cho onuruyla Daejeon Ulusal Mezarligi'na defnedildi.

Devlet Baskani Lee Myung-bak Cuma günü Seoul'un güneyindeki Ulusal Polis Hastanesinde polis memurunu ziyaret edip, saygilarini sundu. Cho'nun fotografinin önüne çiçek birakti ve aile büyüklerine bassagligi dileyerek onun fedakarliginin unutulmayacagini söyledi.

Gyeonggi Eyalet Emniyet Teskilati müdürü Lee Kang-deok, Cho'nun ölümünden sonra Cho isimli onurlu polis memurunun amacanin teskilatin amaci olacagini söyledi.

A funeral ceremony was held Saturday morning at the Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency for a conscripted police officer who was killed while trying to rescue a citizen from flood waters this week.

The 21-year-old officer, Cho Min-soo, was found dead Thursday after being swept away in flood waters in Dongducheon, north of Seoul. On Wednesday night he tried to rescue a citizen who was hanging from a barbed wire fence and calling for help. Cho was honorably chosen to be laid to rest at the Daejeon National Cemetery.

President Lee Myung-bak paid his respects to the fallen officer on Friday at at the National Police Hospital in southern Seoul. He laid flowers before the photo of Cho and offered condolences to family members, saying his sacrifice won’t be forgotten for a long time.

The head of the Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency Lee Kang-deok said the agency will posthumously name Cho an honorary police officer as it was Cho’s intent to become a career officer.
