S. Korea to Donate $3.5 Mln to UNICEF for N. Korea

Güney Kore, UNICEF’e Kuzey Kore’ye Yardım Etmesi İçin 3,5 Milyon Dolar Bağış Yapacak

Güney Kore, Kuzey Kore'deki yardım projeleri için BM Çocuk Fonuna (UNICEF) 3,5 milyon dolar bağış yapacak.

Cuma günü Amerika’nın Sesi’ne göre, UNICEF, Güney Kore’nin son zamanlarda Kuzey Kore’ye yardım etmek için uluslararası kuruluşlara taahhüt ettiği sekiz milyon dolarlık bağışın yüzde 44’ünü alacak.

Bir UNICEF sözcüsü, Güney Kore'nin cömert katkılarının kesinlikle memnuniyetle karşılandığını söyledi.

Fonlar, beş yaşın altındaki 450 bin çocuğa ishal tedavisinde ve 2,8 milyon kişiye temel pnömoni ilaçlarının dağıtılmasında kullanılacak.

1985'ten bu yana Kuzey Koreli çocukları destekleyen UNICEF'e göre, beş yaşın altındaki beş çocuktan biri yetersiz büyüme yaşarken, bu çocukların yüzde üçünde akut yetersiz beslenme var.

Örgüt, kuzeydeki insani projeler için bu yıl 19,5 milyon dolar artırmayı planlıyor.

Güney Kore hükümeti geçtiğimiz hafta Kuzey'de yetersiz beslenme ve sağlık sorunlarından muzdarip çocuklara ve hamile kadınlara yardım eden projeleri finanse etmek için Dünya Gıda Programına ve UNICEF'e sekiz milyon dolar bağış yapacağını açıkladı.

South Korea will be donating three-point-five million dollars to the UN Children's Fund(UNICEF) for aid projects in North Korea.

According to the Voice of America on Friday, UNICEF will take 44 percent of the eight-million dollar donation that South Korea recently pledged to international agencies to help North Korea.

A UNICEF spokesperson said that the generous contribution by South Korea is hugely welcome.

The funds will be used to treat diarrhea in 450-thousand children under the age of five as well as distributing essential pneumonia medication for two-point-eight million people.

According to UNICEF, which has been supporting North Korean children since 1985, one out of five children aged under five are suffering from stunted growth while three percent have acute malnutrition.

The organization plans to raise 19-point-five million dollars this year for humanitarian projects in the North.

The South Korean government announced last week that it would donate eight-million dollars to the World Food Programme and UNICEF to fund projects helping children and pregnant women in the North suffering from malnutrition and health problems.

No. of Foreign Residents in S. Korea Rises 8.6%

Güney Kore'de kısa veya uzun dönem yaşayan yabancıların sayısı geçen sene 2.3 milyonu geçti.

Salı günü Adalet Bakanlığı tarafından sunulan verilere göre; 2.36 milyon yabancı 2018 sonunda ülkeye kaydoldu. Bu sayı bir sene öncesine göre %8.6 daha fazla.

Ülkedeki toplam populasyondaki yabancıların yüzdesi geçen sene %4.57'ye ulaştı; 2014'te %3.5 idi.

Uluslararası populasyonda Çinliler 107 bin ya da %45 ile en büyük yüzdeye sahip. Çinlileri, Tayland, Vietnam ve ABD takip ediyor.

Göçmen bürosu uluslararası öğrence ve çalışan sayısının bu kadar yükselmesinin sebebini yurt dışındaki K-pop kültürüne bağlıyor.

The number of foreigners residing in South Korea on a short- or long-term basis exceeded two-point-three million last year.

According to data by the Justice Ministry on Tuesday, two-point-36 million foreign nationals were registered in the country at the end of 2018, an eight-point-six percent increase from a year earlier.

The proportion of foreigners in the country's total population increased from three-point-five percent in 2014 to four-point-57 percent last year.

Chinese nationals accounted for the largest portion of the international population, at over 45 percent or 107-thousand, followed by people from Thailand, Vietnam and the United States.

An official from the immigration office attributed the rise to an increase in the number of international students and workers in the country drawn in part by the popularity of Korean pop culture abroad.

Cruise Ship Investigated for Deadly Collision That Killed at Least 7 S. Koreans

Macaristan polisinin 26’sının ölü ya da kayıp olduğu Güney Koreli turistlerle dolu gezi teknesiyle çarpışıp alabora olduğundan şüphelenilen bir yolcu gemisini araştırdığı bildiriliyor.

Hvg.hu da dahil olmak üzere Macar medya kuruluşları, resmi onay alınmamasına rağmen, Güney Korelileri taşıyan gezi teknesine çarpanın 'Viking Sigyn' adlı bir gemi olduğuna inanıyor.

Basında çıkan haberlerde, çarpışmadan sonra Viking Sigyn'in, çarpışma bölgesine yakın bir iskeleye demirlediği ve polisin soruşturmanın bir parçası olarak perşembe sabahı gemiye bindiği söylendi. Bir yerel medya kuruluşu, bir çarpışma izinin geminin alt kısımlarında açıkça göründüğünü söyledi.

Police in Hungary are reportedly investigating a cruise ship suspected of colliding and capsizing a sightseeing boat filled with South Korean tourists that left 26 people dead or missing.

Hungarian media outlets, including hvg.hu, said although official confirmation hasn't been made, the boat that rammed into the sightseeing boat carrying the South Koreans is believed to be a vessel called the 'Viking Sigyn'.

The media outlets said after the collision, Viking Sigyn docked at a pier close to the collision site, adding police boarded the ship on Thursday morning as part of their investigation. One local media outlet said traces of a collision were clearly visible on the lower parts of the ship.

S. Korean Rescue Team to Leave for Hungary on Thurs.

Güney Kore, düzinelerce Güney Koreli taşıyan bir gezi teknesinin Doğu Avrupa ülkesinde batmasının ardından Macaristan'a acil müdahale ekibi göndermeyi planlıyor.

Dışişleri Bakanlığı Sözcüsü Kim In-cheol perşembe günü yaptığı açıklamada, Bakan Kang Kyung-wha'nın acil durum ekibiyle birlikte gün içinde Budapeşte'ye gideceğini söyledi.

Ekip altı bakanlık memurundan ve dokuz profesyonel dalgıç da dahil olmak üzere afet önleyici makamlardan 12 memurdan oluşuyor. Kang liderliğinde, Tuna Nehri üzerindeki arama çalışmalarına yardım edecekler.

South Korea plans to immediately dispatch an emergency response team to Hungary after a sightseeing boat carrying dozens of South Koreans sank in the Eastern European country.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Kim In-cheol said Thursday that Minister Kang Kyung-wha along with the emergency team will leave for Budapest within the day.

The team consists of six ministry officials and 12 officials from antidisaster authorities, including nine professional divers. Led by Kang, they will help the search efforts under way on the Danube River.

According to the South Korean government, 33 South Korean tourists and two Hungarians were on the ill-fated boat when it was capsized after being hit by a larger cruise ship on Wednesday evening, local time.

Eight people, including seven South Koreans, have been confirmed dead while 19 other South Koreans were still missing as of Thursday afternoon.

Macaristan Cumhurbaşkanı Janos Ader'in, çarşamba günü Budapeşte'deki Tuna Nehri'nde düzinelerce Güney Koreli turisti taşıyan bir teknenin batmasının ardından Güney Kore'ye başsağlığı dilediği bildirildi.

Macar medya kuruluşu 24.hu 'ya göre, Ader, Cumhurbaşkanı Moon Jae-in' e mesajlarını iletti ve Güney Kore halkına ülkesinde gerçekleşen trajik batış için başsağlığı diledi.

Cumhurbaşkanı, Macar makamlarının batmanın sebebini ve bundan sorumlu olanları bulmak için kararlı çaba göstereceğine ve Macaristan’da hayatta kalanları bulmak için elinden gelenin en iyisini yapacağına söz verdi. Ayrıca, ülkenin Güney Kore kurtarma ekipleriyle iş birliğine hazır olduğunu da belirtti.

Hungarian President Janos Ader has reportedly expressed condolences to South Korea after a boat carrying dozens of South Korean tourists capsized on the Danube River in Budapest on Wednesday.

According to Hungarian media outlet 24.hu, Ader delivered his messages to President Moon Jae-in, offering condolences to the South Korean public for the tragic sinking in his country.

He promised the Hungarian authorities would make determined efforts to find the cause of the sinking and those responsible for it and said Hungary will do its best to find survivors. He also said the country is ready to cooperate with South Korean rescue teams.

Hungarian Gov't Plans Immediate Salvaging of Ill-Fated Boat

Macar Hükümeti, Talihsiz Teknenin Acil Kurtarılmasını Planlıyor

Macar hükümeti, Tuna Nehri üzerinde düzinelerce Güney Koreli turist taşırken alabora olan bir tur teknesini kurtarmayı planlıyor.

Güney Kore'nin Macaristan Büyükelçisi Choe Kyoo-sik, Dışişleri Bakanı Kang Kyung-wha'nın başkanlık ettiği perşembe günkü Güney Koreli diplomatik yetkililerin video konferansında Budapeşte'nin planlarını sundu.

Choe, teknenin perşembe günü kurtarılacağını söyledi, Macar makamlarının da işi kolaylaştırmak için yakında helikopterler yerleştireceklerine söz verdi.

Büyükelçi ayrıca, Macar hükümetinden helikopter dağıtımlarına öncelik vermesini ve arama görevlerinde Güney Kore'den gönderilecek kurtarma ekibiyle iş birliği yapmasını istedi.

Bakan Kang, ilgili yetkililerden acil müdahale sistemlerini sürdürmelerini istedi. Ayrıca Tuna Nehri boyunca yer alan ülkelerle iş birliği yapmalarını istedi.

Kang Güney Kore'nin müdalesini organize etmek ve Macar yetkililerle gerekli iş birliğini görüşmek üzere günün ilerleyen saatlerinde Macaristan'a gidecek.

The Hungarian government plans to immediately salvage a tour boat that capsized while carrying dozens of South Korean tourists on the Danube River.

South Korea's Ambassador to Hungary Choe Kyoo-sik delivered Budapest’s plans during a Thursday videoconference of South Korean diplomatic officials presided over by Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha.

Choe said the boat was to be salvaged by Thursday, adding the Hungarian authorities also promised to soon deploy helicopters to facilitate the work.

The ambassador also said he asked the Hungarian government to prioritize chopper deployments and search missions while asking for cooperation with rescuers to be dispatched from South Korea.

Minister Kang asked related officials to maintain emergency response systems. She also instructed them to seek cooperation with countries located along the Danube River.

Kang is to leave for Hungary later in the day to orchestrate the South Korean response and discuss necessary cooperation with Hungarian authorities.

Thirty-three out of 35 passengers on the ill-fated ship were South Koreans. Seven were confirmed dead while 19 others remain missing.

Seoul Court Sentences Internet Cafe Murderer to 30 Yrs. in Prison

Seoul Mahkemesi İnternet Kafe Katiline 30 Yıl Hapis Cezası Verdi

Seoul mahkemesi, savcının öne sürdüğü ölüm cezasını reddederek geçen ekim ayında İnternet kafede part-time çalışanını öldüren Kim Seong-soo için uzun dönem hapis cezası verdi.

Seoul Güney Bölgesi Mahkemesi salı günü Kim'i 30 yıl parmaklıklar arkasına gönderirken buna ek olarak 10 senelik vücuduna bağlanacak yer takip cihazıyla yaşama cezası da verdi.

Mahkemenin söylediğine göre; Kim'in mahkemede iyi hal sergilemesine, daha önce suça karışmamış olmasına ve ev içi şiddetten kaynaklı anksiyete bozukluğu olmasına rağmen suçunun büyük ölçüde zalimlik içerdiği ve toplum içinde büyük şok ve korku yarattığı için uzun dönem ceza kaçınılmaz oldu.

Ölüm cezası için savcı, cinayetin önceden planlandığını ve Kim'in kurbanı defalarca vahşice bıçakladığı argümanlarını sundu.

Savcı aynı zamanda Kim'in erkek kardeşi için de kurbana saldırı suçundan 1,5 yıl hapis cezası istedi ancak mahkeme talebi reddetti.

A Seoul court has handed down a long-term jail sentence to Kim Seong-soo for the murder of a part-time employee at an Internet cafe last October, rejecting the prosecution’s request for the death penalty.

The Seoul Southern District Court on Tuesday sentenced Kim to 30 years behind bars and an additional ten years of monitoring through a location-tracking device attached to his body.

The court said that although Kim appeared repentant during the trial, had no previous convictions and suffered from anxiety due to domestic violence, the extreme cruelty of the crime and the shock and terror it inflicted on society made a harsh sentence unavoidable.

In seeking the death penalty, prosecutors argued that the murder was premeditated and that Kim had shown no remorse after brutally stabbing the victim dozens of times following an apparent argument.

Prosecutors had also sought a one-and-a-half year prison sentence for Kim’s brother for assaulting the victim, however the court cleared him of the charge.
