Ex-Energy Amb. Summoned over Stock Manipulation Scandal

Eski Enerji Elçisi Hisse Senedi Hilesi Skandali için Çagrildi

Eski Enerji ve Kaynaklar Elçisi Kim Eun-seok, Kamerun'da bir elmas maden projesi ile ilgili bir hisse senedi hilesi skandalinda rol oynadigi iddiasi üzerine Cuma günü savcilar tarafindan sorgulandi.

Kim'in, uluslararasi Güney Kore firmasi CNK'in hisse senedi fiyatlarini sisirmek için nüfuz ticareti yaptigi süpheleniliyor.

Eski büyükelçi, savciliga gitmeden önce gazetecilere, Denetim ve Teftis Kurulu tarafindan bulgulari kabul etmeyecegini söyledi. 2010 sonlarindan itibaren bir disisleri bakanligi basin açiklamasi ile ilgili disiplin suçu veya cezali suça layik hiçbir sey yapmadim, dedi. Rapor, Kamerun'da elmas projesi hakkinda ayrintilar belirledi.

Kim, asla sahte rapor düsünmedigini ve yaptigi her seyin tutkulu bir vatansever olarak ülkesine hizmet etmek oldugunu söyledi.

Former Energy and Resources Ambassador Kim Eun-seok was questioned by prosecutors on Friday over his alleged role in a stock manipulation scandal involving a diamond mining project in Cameroon.

Kim is suspected of influence peddling to inflate the stock prices of South Korean firm CNK International.

The former ambassador told reporters before entering the prosecutor's office that he cannot accept the findings by the Board of Audit and Inspection. He said he did not do anything deserving of disciplinary action or criminal punishment regarding a foreign ministry press release from late 2010. The report stated details about the diamond project in Cameroon.

Kim said he never considered the report false, and all he did was serve the country as a passionate patriot.

Prosecutors are questioning what role he played in the release of the report, which concerns how the rights to develop the diamond mine were secured.

The ambassador's duties were suspended over the scandal.

Financial groups' 2012 earnings outlook remains rosy: analysts

South Korean financial services groups are widely expected to post robust earnings this year, but net profits will depend on the size of interest income and loan-loss reserves, analysts said Saturday.

Top banking group KB Financial Group and its three local rivals posted a record combined net profit of 8.86 trillion won (US$7.86 billion) last year, mainly due to an increase in interest income and a one-off gain from a stake sale of Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., according to FnGuide, a financial information provider.

The most expensive whale sold in South Korea over the last two years was priced at 96.5 million won (US$85,690), a local fisheries association said on Sunday.

According to the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, a minke whale was sold for the record price in the southeastern port city of Pohang in December last year, becoming the most expensive one traded between 2010 and 2011.

Bir piyasa arastirma firmasi olan DisplaySearch anket sonuçlarina göre düz ekran televizyonlarin satisi önceki yila göre %6 artarak 2011'de 222.29 milyona yükseldi.

Samsung'un pazar payi önceki yilda %19ken geçen yil %20'ye yükseldi ve LG Elektronik 2010'dan bu yana %13 pazar payi seviyesine çikti.

Sony 2010'dakinden %1 düserek %9'la 3.sirada yer aldi. Panasonic, Toshiba ve Sharp gibi Japon televizyon yapimcilarinin her birinin geçen yil %10'dan az pazar payina sahip oldugu görüldü.

South Korean television companies have increased their influence in the global television market, with Samsung Electronics bringing up their market share to 20 percent, leading the market for a sixth straight year.

LG Electronics came in second.

According to survey results from DisplaySearch, a market research firm, flat-screen television sales rose 6 percent year-on-year at 222.29 million in 2011.

Samsung’s market share rose from 19 percent to 20 percent last year from the year before and LG Electronics was seen to have a market share of 13 percent, level from 2010.

Sony came in third with 9 percent, 1 percent point less than 2010. Japanese television makers including Panasonic, Toshiba and Sharp were seen to have market shares less than 10 percent each last year.

Lotte Mart pazartesi günü, geçen yil tüm meyve satislarinin %31'ini ithal meyvelerin olusturdugunu söyledi.

Güney Koreli marketler zinciri, 2011 yilinin ithal meyve satislari oraninin %30'u geçen ilk yil oldugunu da ekledi.

Imported fruits are enjoying strong popularity amid a rise in domestic fruit prices.

Lotte Mart said Monday that imported fruit accounted for 31 percent of all fruit sales last year.

The South Korean chain store added that 2011 marked the first time the portion of imported fruit sales surpassed 30 percent.

Bananas accounted for 34 percent of total imported fruits sales and oranges and grapes both made up 17 percent.

Majority of Bizs Anticipate Growth of Under 3% in 2012

The number of business firms that believe the nation’s economic growth will stand at less than three percent this year has nearly tripled over the past two months.

The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) surveyed 500 firms and reported that more than 58 percent of the surveyed expect the nation’s economy will grow less than three percent in 2012.

The number of firms with that outlook jumped more than 37-point-six percentage points compared to a similar survey conducted last December.

The KCCI says anticipation of poor growth has increased as uncertainties are mounting over economic recession due to a recent slowdown in exports as well as a slump in investment and domestic demand.

The survey found that 82 percent of companies surveyed had negative views over current economic conditions.
