Kral Danjong (1441-1457) Joseon Hanedanlığı’nın 6. hükümdarı ve 500 yıllık hanedandaki muhtemelen en bahtsız tarihi şahsiyet idi. Danjong daha 12’sinde babasının varisi olmuştu. Fakat amcası Suyang Daegun (sonraki Kral Sejo) tarafından kısa bir sürede alaşağı edildi ve Yeongwol’deki Cheongnyeongpo Burnu’na sürgün gönderildi. Kralın emri ile Gwanpungheon Konağında zehir içmeye zorlandı ve 17’sinde öldü.

Yeongwol sakinleri Kral Danjong’un ruhunu ve sadık tebaalarını teselli etmek için 1967’den beri her yıl Danjong Kültür Festivali’ni düzenlemişlerdir. Festival uzun bir tarihe ve geleneğe sahiptir ve kraliyet mezarında düzenlenen tek anma ritüelidir. Jangneung Kraliyet Mezarı’nda, Gwanpungheon Konağı’nda ve Donggang nehir kenarında düzenlenir.

Joseon Hanedanlığı'nın 27 hükümdarından Danjong, ölümü üzerine bir anma töreni bahşedilmeyen tek kişidir. Bir Gukjang, veya resmi cenaze, ölümüne müteakiben yaklaşık 550 yıl sonra ilk kez 2007’de düzenlendi. Gwangpunheon Konağı’nde başlayan resmi cenaze anma töreninin sahnelenmesi, cenaze töreni alayının Dongangdaegyo Köprüsü'ndeki anma töreninden ayrılarak Jangneung Kraliyet Mezarı ve yol kenarındaki Changjeolsa Tapınağı'nda devam eder; Jangneung Kraliyet Mezarı’ndaki anma ritüeliyle son bulur.

Danjong Gukjang Ulusal Anmalık Töreni’ne katılma fırsatı sadece Danjong Kültür Festivali’nde sunulmaktadır.

Introduction
King Danjong (1441-1457) was the 6th monarch of the Joseon Dynasty and probably the most ill-fated historic figure in the 500 years of the dynasty. Danjong succeeded his father age of 12. However, he was soon overthrown by his uncle Suyang Daegun (later King Sejo) and sent on exile to Cheongnyeongpo Cape in Yeongwol. By order of the king, he was forced to consume poison in Gwanpungheon House and died at the age of 17.

The residents of Yeongwol have organized the Danjong Culture Festival every year since 1967 to console the spirit of King Danjong and his loyal subjects. The festival has a long history and tradition and is the only memorial ritual held at a royal tomb. It is held in Jangneung Royal Tomb, Gwanpungheon House, and Donggang riverside.

Of the 27 monarchs of the Joseon Dynasty, Danjong was the only one not given a memorial service upon his death. A Gukjang, or state funeral, was held for the first time in 2007 some 550 years following his death. The reenactment of the gukjang funeral starts with a memorial service in Gwangpungheon House, the funeral cortege leaving Deokpo-ri, passing by Donggangdaegyo Bridge to Jangneung Royal Tomb; the roadside memorial ritual in Changjeolsa Temple; and the final memorial ritual in Jangneung Royal Tomb.

The opportunity to attend the Danjong Gukjang National Memorial Service is only offered at the Danjong Culture Festival.
