Injeongjeon Hall is the main throne hall of Changdeokgung Palace. The hall was used for conducting major state affairs, including the coronation of a new king, assembly of officials, and reception of foreign envoys. The current building was rebuilt in 1804 (4th year of King Sunjo’s reign) and shows the architectural style of the late Joseon Dynasty.
The single-storied hall with a hipped-and-gabled roof stands on the two-tired Woldae terrace. The plinths of the pillars are square in the lower part and round in the upper portion This 5 kan wide and 3 kan deep hall has multi-cluster brackets on the column tops and outer tie-beams.

Except for the door, the building has latticed windows. Above the windows are low windows with slanted lattice designs to let in the sunlight. In the back of the hall is the throne. A folding screen of the sun and the moon is placed behind and a wooden canopy is above it. There is a recessed ceiling decorated with the Bonghwang phoenix, which was the symbol of immortality and nobility. Lotus designs were painted in Dancheong coloring on the ceiling. A 5 meters-wide stone-paved way leads to the throne hall from Myeongjeongmun gate. It has a 2.4 meter wide raised central portion reserved for kings only. Subjects followed the king on the lower sides. A pair of Bonghwang phoenixes is engraved inside heart-shaped outlines on rises of the center stairs. Stairs are engraved with arabesque, cloud, and Bosanghwa floral designs. Flanking the risers are the mythical Haetae, fire-eating legendary animals, that offer protection from fire. The two-lined stone markers, 24 in all, in front, indicate the positions of attending officials.

Donhwamun Gate is the front gate of Changdeokgung Palace, one of the five major palaces in Joseon.

It was constructed in May, 1412, the 12th year of the reign of King Taejong and burned down in Japanese Invasion of 1592.

The gate was rebuilt together with Changdeokgung Palace in the 1st year of the reign of King Gwanghaegun (1609).

It is a two-story building with five kan (a unit of measurement referring to the distance between two columns) in the front and two kan at the side, and it has a hip roof, called ujingakjibung, showing a trapezoid shape when viewed from the front.

The weight of the roof is supported by column heads on top of and also between the pillars.

This is called dapo (multiple column-heads) style.

The three kan in the center of the first floor have two doors each but the kan at either end are blocked by the wall.

According to a record in the History of the Joseon Dynasty, a bronze bell was hung at the door in the 13th year of the reign of King Taejong (1413), but since the gate has been rebuilt, this can only be imagined.

Donhwamun Gate, like Sungnyemun Gate (Namdaemun) and Honghwamun Gate (the front gate of Changgyeonggung Palace), is a cultural asset important for researching the construction style of gates built at the height of the Joseon Dynasty.

Description
This gate and corridor was built in 1484, at the same time as Changgyeonggung, in the 15th year of the reign of King Seongjong, but it was burnt down in the Japanese Invasion of 1592 and rebuilt in the reign of King Gwanghaegun.

Part of the corridors in the north and south were removed during Japanese Occupation but restored in 1986.

The gate has decorations of a bird's beak on the pillars.

Myeongjeongmun Gate, with three kan (a unit of measurement referring to the distance between two columns) in the front and two at the side, has a hip and gable roof called paljakjibung.

The brackets which support the eaves of the roof are set up not only on the pillars but also between them.

This is called dapo style.

The design of the building is rigid and well organized, and is typical of the gates of mid Joseon.

The structure maintains very effectively the early construction style.

It has 11 kans in the front and 4 kans to the sides (kan: a traditional unit of measurement referring to the space between two columns that is roughly 6 to 8 feet). During the latter period of the Joseon Dynasty, the hall was used as the king’s workplace. It is situated right in front of the palace’s residential hall called Daejojeon Hall. Originally built upon the foundation of Changdeokgung Palace, Huijeongdang Hall was destroyed by multiple fires during the battles of the Imjin War (Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592). It was rebuilt in 1834 but was burnt down again in 1917. The current structure is the one reconstructed in 1920.

The frequent destruction and restoration of the hall account for the many changes that occurred in terms of the size and purpose of the building. The 9 kans in the front and 3 kans on the sides have been decorated into a living room with a Korean-style reception room on the left and a western-style reception room on the right. The rest of the building was used as hallways and other small rooms such as bathroom and cubicles. The hall's interior is decorated with foreign-made furniture as a result of the western influences at the time. The electricity installed in and outside the rooms is a change that took place during the last phase of the Korean empire. The original structure, however, had been strictly constructed according to the original palace building standards.

Located inside Changdeokgung Palace, Nakseonjae Hall is a one-storied structure built in ikgong style (bird wing-shaped eaves placed on top of the pillars) with a hip tiled and gable roof. It has 6 kans in the front and 2 kans to the sides (kan: a traditional unit of measurement referring to the space between two columns; roughly 2-4 meters). It originally belonged to the nearby Changgyeonggung Palace, but came to be considered a part of Changdeokgung Palace in more recent years.

The hall was constructed in 1846 (12th year of King Heonjong’s reign) and it is collectively called Nakseonjae together with the adjacent Seokbokheon Hall and Sugangjae Hall. The main gate of these three buildings is Jangnakdang, which consists of 12 kans of namhaenggak (south corridor building) at Nakseonjae. Upon entering the gate is an extensive yard leading to Nakseonjae. Of the 6 front kans, a single kan on the far right side protrudes out to the front to create a balcony-like loft. Meanwhile, the main building features an ordinary housing style with square foundation stones and pillars placed on top of a rectangular stone base. The furnace and the surrounding areas beneath the loft are marked by unique mosaic decorations of irregular lines and the kitchen doors feature diverse design patterns.

At the back of the building is a flower garden made by stacking large stones. The chimney, the flowers, and the oddly shaped stones harmoniously blend into one another to create an outstanding landscape gardening. The interconnected Seokbokheon Hall also has 6 kans in the front and 2 kans to the sides and it is a part of ansarang (inner reception room). The outer corridors skirting the building lead to Sugangjae Hall, which is 15 kans in size.
Daejojeon Hall was the queen’s residence at Changdeokgung Palace. Originally built in 1405 (5th year of King Taejo’s reign during the Joseon Dynasty), the hall had been destroyed by fires multiple times since then. The current structure is the one rebuilt in 1920 with materials taken from Gyotaejeon Hall at Gyeongbokgung Palace after being burnt down in 1917. Daejeojeon is differentiated from other palace buildings in that it has no ridge on the roof. The center bedroom is surrounded by small-sized rooms for court ladies to attend to the king and the queen.
This is an open entrance to the existing wing which surrounds the Injeongjeon where the king and his officials gathered together to hold a conference. This gate is located in the center of the south of the Injeongjeon. Going up the lower terrace stones, you will find an entrance with only an open 'kan' in the center among 3 kan's. This is different from any other entrances in this respect because it was later changed in structure and decorations, etc. The Injeongmun was first built in 1418 during King Taejong's reign, but subsequently it was destroyed and reconstructed; It was destroyed during the Japanese invasion, King Injo's Reform, and King Yeongjo's reign. The existing gate is assumed to have been built in 1745 when the Injeongjeon was reconstructed.
