Saygın romancı ve öykü yazarı Yi Mun-yol (1948 - ), Seoul’da doğmuş, ancak babasının Kuzey Kore’ye sığınmasının ardından ailesinin yerleşmek zorunda bırakıldığı Gyeongsanbuk-do yöresinin Yeong-yang kentinde büyümüştür. Seoul Üniversitesi’nde Kore Edebiyatı üzerinde eğitim gören Yi, özel bir okulun edebiyat derneğine katılarak yazar olma hayaline doğru ilerlemeye başlamıştır. İlk kısa romanı olan Saehagok 1979 yılında yayınlanan Yi, 1994 ile 1997 yılları arasında Sejong Üniversitesi’nde Kore Dili ve Edebiyati dersleri vermiştir ve 1998’den beri Buak Edebiyat Merkezi’nin başkanlığını yürütmektedir. Yi Mun-yol’un aldığı birçok ödül arasında, 1982 Dong-in Edebiyat Ödülü, 1983 Kore Edebiyati Ödülü, 1984 JoongAng Kültür Büyük Ödülü ve 1999 Hoam Sanat Ödülü sayılabilir.

Yi Munyol (born May 18, 1948) is a South Korean writer.He was born in Cheongun-dong of Seoul. He attended the Seoul National University, where he studied Korean Language Education. He dropped out in 1970. From 1994 to 1997, he taught Korean language and literature at Sejong University. Since 1999, he has served as the head of Buak Literary Center.He has written novels, short stories, and political and social commentaries.In 1999, he was awarded the Ho-Am Prize in the Arts. Yi is currently a visiting scholar at the Korea Institute, Harvard University.
