If you were to introduce yourself with confidence?

I’m Hyuk, forever the youngest both at home and in my team. I’m not good at showing emotion or gratitude to the people around me because I’m very awkward and shy.

But from now on I would like to be equally honest about like, hate, right and wrong.

Tell us about the clothes you are wearing right now?

The point is the fashionable, striped t-shirt and bright yellow pants.

Express yourself with one word.

A sketchbook. I first showed myself as VIXX’s magnae in 2012, ready to show people my charms.

So I hope that in 5 years, even after 10 years, I won’t only be a singer, but a sketchbook that can show a variety of paintings like singing, acting, song-writing, producing and more.

I have confidence that I can make my own sketchbook very diverse and that people will love it.

A place that fits you the best?

The school’s playground! I have strong, happy memories from elementary school, middle school and high school about how me and my friends could play happily there if we only had a ball.

A book you’ve been impressed by?

“Edith”. And during study-hours in elementory school I read a book named “Edison”, and it wouldn’t leave my hand.

Because of that I have become fond of reading about the live of famous people.

The most memorable present you’ve ever received?

Necklace. When I was making my debut, I was always fighting with my noona, and it was hard on our relationship.

Then my noona bought us a couple necklace that has now become my lucky charm.

Your ideal type?

A girl who doesn’t know a lot of guys, someone who has a very evident values and a cute personality. A girl like Mi Ho from “My Girlfriend is a Gumiho”? Shin Min Ah Sunbaenim?

One day, all of a sudden, an alien arrives on earth. If he was to give you a superpower, what would you ask for?

The ability to adjust time as you please. It would allow me to relive tha happy moments and fast-forward the sad ones.

A bit like the ability to be happy with the people most important to you for a long, long time.

The reason you are on earth?

That’s because my mother and father, my grandmother and grandfather, great grandmother and great grandfather was here…More than that… Ah, I don’t know! To conquer space!

To me, VIXX is…?

A fence! They accept my bad sides, brothers that protect me and give me strenght. I want to develop well behind the fence that my brothers make.

I want to get a lot of challenges behind this fence, and work them out on my own while they watch me develop.

Because I have these fence-like brothers, VIXX exsists.

Yourself in 10 years?

A composer that makes the music he wants to listen to, and the music he wants other people to listen to, and I want to be active as a singer with perfect productions and dance as well.

I also want to become an icon to people and show them a good image through acting and arts.

“Important figures in the 20th century” people like Martin Luther King and Pele, It was really interesting, and it moved me.

If it’s a present I got from a girlfriend, it would be a bag!

Your ideal type?

Her appearance doesn’t matter, but a cute and charming girl. A girl with confidence. The closest person to this is my mom.

One day, all of a sudden, an alien arrives on earth. If he was to give you a superpower, what would you ask for?

To be move in an instant, just like the character in the movie “Jumper”. Because then I can go anywhere. You also get more time then.

The reason you are on earth?

To protect the earth and let everyone know about VIXX… but more than anything, so that I can do the things I want to do.

To me, VIXX is…?

An exsistance much like a Family Restaurant. Even the name is similar to VIPS (another Korean family restaurant). Haha. Because it’s like both family and food to me.

A dependable dad with a beautiful wife, a rabbit-like son and a daughter.

Seoulbeats Exclusive: Sitting Down with VIXX

Seoulbeats recently had a little sit down with the boys from VIXX, Jellyfish Entertainment‘s first ever boy group. As you guys know, the members were all selected through Mnet’s reality program Mydol, where the finalists of that program make up the group today.

Similar to any other rookie group, the six members were enthusiastic and excited to be in the states to meet their international fans. They weren’t able to speak with their fans as much as they wanted to in English, but it wasn’t for the lack of trying, as the members were eager to communicate with the fans despite the language barrier.

Which song did you like promoting better, “Superhero” or “Rock Ur Body”?

Ravi: We enjoyed promoting our second single, “Rock Ur Body” a little bit more. Not only was it upbeat, we thought appealed to the public more.

N: In addition to that, we were able to improve since our debut song, “Superhero” days, so the performances were slightly less awkward.

If you could live inside a video game, which one would it be?

N: Oh! What a good question.

Ken: Maybe I’d be Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece? I know that it’s a popular manhwa, but I also like it as a game.

Ravi: I want to go on the cart in Mario Cart, because it’s such a fun game.

N: For me, I’d like to be in Diablo. To be the sorceress maybe? I also want to be a magician with my music.

Hyuk: Others may think that my answer is weird, but I want to be the soccer goal mesh in FIFA’s game. Why? Because I want to feel the power of the world’s best soccer players.

(laughter from the rest of the group)

Describe another member in a word or a phrase.

Hyuk: I think N is an ahjumma. He has mother-like tendencies, he tries to take care of us a lot.

Ravi: How about 4D for Ken? He behaves pretty questionably everyday.

Hong-bin: Ravi is a really hard worker. Even when the other members are sleeping, he stays up to study producing. He also listens to a lot of different kinds of music and tries to practice a lot.

Ken: Hyuk is a like a little kid. He’s the youngest of the group but at times, he thinks he’s a man and it’s amusing for us hyungs to watch.

Leo: Hong-bin is rather direct; he doesn’t hesitate to voice what’s on his mind.

N: How about chic for Leo? Actually, he appears aloof a lot, but he’s actually really kind.

What song do you listen to when you are upset?

N: I listen to a lot of Sung Shi Kyung sunbaenim’s music, and a lot of Shin Seong-hoon sunbaenim’s as well.

If you were on a deserted island, who would you want to be with?

Ravi, Hong-bin: We’d all go with Ken.

N: Hyuk for me.

Hyuk, Leo: We want to go alone!

VIXX for Vogue Girl

Promotions for your second single ‘Rock Your Body’ have ended. What plans do you have in the future?
N We have fansigns here and there, and we’re also building up our skills (Which skills should we work on?)
RAVI I’m working on a song. I’m making sure that it doesn’t leak.
HYUK Choreography and performance. I’m practicing so that people can say “Hey, he plays really well”.
KEN Because I’m the main vocal, I want to make a repertoire with a lot of confidence. Ah, I should also work on my personal talents. (What kind of personal talents?) It’s top secret. If I give any hints, it’d be a reverse gag?
N I’m looking up artists from both Korea and overseas and watching their performances. Whether it’s expression, gesture, I’m learning that ‘Ah there are these kinds of performances.’
HONGBIN I listen to a lot of ballads and KPOP, but these days I’m listening to pop. I’m also practicing my acting.
LEO While I play piano, I’m studying composing in my spare time. I’m also listening to various types of vocals.

What kind of music do you listen to?
HYUK I’m a fan of Justin Bieber. When he was younger his voice was cute, but his mature voice is sexy.
LEO I’m in love with songs by Trey Songz and Naul sunbae-nim. Actually about 2 weeks ago I was experiencing a slump, but I became okay again after listening to sunbae-nim’s songs. (Why were you in a slump?) I have a lot of greed, so I torture myself. When I’m incompetent I receive stress, when I’m resting I feel uncomfortable. But after a long time, I listened to sunbae-nim’s ‘Wait’ and this feeling came over me. Suddenly my heart was at ease and I thought, Ah so this is what it’s like to grow. (What about the other members?)
HONGBIN I like John Legend, Jason Mraz, and Michael Buble.
N Ravi likes Chris Brown so I’ve been listening to him as well. Also Sung Shikyung sunbae-nim.
KEN Billy Porter, Brian McKnight, and Sung Shikyung and Kim Gunmo sunbae-nims.
RAVI Nicki Minaj’s album. Various musicians participated but the songs have individual colors so I don’t get tired of them.

The songs you listen to aren’t ‘idol-like’.
N The other sunbaes in our company recommend us a lot of music, so we receive a lot of influence from that. (They’re big sunbaes that sing very well.) At first it was burdonsome, and I even wished that there were idol sunbaes, but now it’s reassuring and I’m proud. I’m also doing my best.
HONGBIN Park Hyoshin sunbaenim also treated me to a meal for my birthday!

When you all came in, I was slightly surprised because the leader, N, was so young and looked so innocent.
RAVI But hyung takes care of the younger ones.
HYUK N hyung knows the members in and out. Whenever they’re happy or bothered. So he’s good at being happy and good at bothering. (laughs)
LEO If N is the mom, then I’m the dad? Ravi is like the oldest child that does his work quietly.
N Ravi is the only one who bothers me. Recently I bothered Ravi a lot, so now he counterattacked by bothering the other members!

Come to think of it, Hongbin saw Ken performing at a school festival and thought “I must become a singer.” What is it like being in one team now?
HONGBIN I fall easily for people who sing well. But hyung is too funny, I keep forgetting that he sings well (laughs).

I heard that you have your own roles in ‘VIXX TV’?
N Ravi and I are anchors, Hongbin is in charge of being the ‘artwork’ because he’s handsome. Leo is the DJ.
HONGBIN Hyuk was an artwork and also a magician, we’re in the middle of finding a new character for him.
KEN I’m the anchor of the next generation ‘Ken TV’!

Although it’s embarrassing, will you bravely confess one of your secrets?
HONGBIN I’m afraid of heights. I know how to overcome it but….
RAVI I sleep a lot, enough to be suspicious of having narcolepsy.
LEO I’m someone who knows how to smile.
KEN I have no secrets.
HYUK I don’t have any aegyo.
ALL We already knew that since he was in high school! We knew that he was very manly (laughs).

When you meet someone you love what do you want to give them?
N Like my father, I want to be someone who is faithful to my work and my family.
LEO If you want to leave me, I won’t hold on to you?
HONGBIN Ah, I was going to say that though.
RAVI I felt it while watching GD sunbae-nim’s performance, that I need to show a stunning performance.
KEN I’ll do whatever they ask me.
HYUK I’ll rent out an entire amusement park for an event.

I want to ask Hyuk something. Towards your hyungs, can you speak up?
HYUK At first I was really scared of Leo hyung. But after getting to know him, he’s funny. Being chic isn’t his concept, he actually is, but sometimes he grabs members quietly into a corner, or cutely pretends to hit them. But hyung, because of hyung at first I really wanted to quit being a trainee (laughs).

Not Six but One VIXX

After debuting with ‘Super Hero’ they followed up with a second dance number ‘Rock Ur Body’ composed by Shinsadong Tiger. Through ‘ROVIX’, created by popartist Charles Jang, they communicate on SNS with fans in 3 languages and it also appears in VIXX’s music videos without fail. Two months after their debut, and four months later, they held performances in America and Japan respectively, and have the ambition to be referred to as a ‘rising group’.

Tell us the process of your debut.

In addition to the 7 company trainees, 3 more who passed the audition were added and the 10 of us were candidates for the group. The best were selected through a competitive survival reality show. In the middle of the competition, we had to evaluate each other or reveal what was in our hearts in interviews, so there were a lot of burdens and fears that we could upset someone. But thanks to that we were able to quickly get used to the cameras and broadcasting. Besides, in a time of such fierce competition, us VIXX members were able to get even closer to each other. As rookies, there was no greater opportunity.

On YouTube I saw your videos that you personally film in your own format. How did that start?

While we were waiting for our turn in the waiting room, Ravi jokingly pretended to be an MC and recorded it, but the reactions in the fancafe were good so we came together and created a new channel called ‘VIXX TV’. Every Tuesday at 9PM it’ll be uploaded without fail. Founder Ravi and leader N take the lead and reveal backstage stories or dorm life, we also reveal news. We also have a corner called ‘Leo’s Music City’. In the fancafe, fans can upload stories and request a song for him to sing.

In the group, which member is responsible for what character or role?

Leader N is the first to understand the members’ hearts and possesses a gentle leadership. If N is the mom, Leo is the dad. To get to the point, he makes a lot of harsh suggestions but as you get to know him, he is always thinking wholeheartedly about the members. Hongbin-ie has the cleanest personality and always straightens up the dorm, while our maknae Hyuk-ie is the first to volunteer to help his hyungs, Ken is the mood maker and Ravi is the dependable oldest son. Each of our different personalities complement each other and makes our team more solid. This way we can make music and show performances that only VIXX can do. N who actively participates in stage production and the team’s rapper, Ravi, who shoulders the responsibility of lyrics and composing, vocal parts Leo and Ken, outstanding stage presence Hongbin-ie, and Hyuk-ie who faithfully does his part in an orderly fashion. Teamwork is our best quality.

Are there any sunbaes or other singers that you want to work with?

Of course. Although we haven’t had a chance yet, rather than just watching, by working on music together there is much that we can learn. Out of our members, Hongbin has worshipped Park Hyoshin like an idol before debut and wants to do a duet. Ken wants to make an acapella group with Beast’s Yang Yoseob sunbae-nim, MBLAQ’s G.O sunbae-nim, SHINee’s Jonghyun sunbae-nim. N’s dream is to hold a joint performance with Big Bang sunbae-nims. Even if we learn only one thing from them, it feels like we could become an invincible team. We want to become singers that excel in singing, dancing, and have strong grasps of the stage, without any unbalances.

- At first I’ll get mad quietly, but if the same thing keeps happening, I’ll get severely mad!

[About VIXX]

Q. Up until the formation of VIXX, who cried the most? (Leo, Hongbin)

Ravi There were 10 of us in a survival debut program called Mydol and us 6 members were chosen to debut. Leo hyung and Hongbin don’t normally cry but I think the tears they cried were because of the fact that we couldn’t debut with some friends that practiced with us for such a long time.

Ken When I became a trainee, I learned how to dance for the first time, and it was really tough because I got scolded at a lot. Although I was learning and memorizing from the members, I thought “I really can’t do any more than this.” It was more tormenting on days when I couldn’t see my parents.

Hyuk Before debuting, my preparation was lacking so in our debut song [SUPER HERO] I didn’t have a part to show. When we were preparing for our second single [Rock Ur Body], I worked really hard to be able to have my own part. I especially listened to Ken hyung’s advice and practiced desparately. Ken originally had a part he was confident in, but he gave it to me. He personally recommended me and asked the composer, “Wouldn’t it be good if Hyuk had this part?” That’s why I am extremely thankful to Ken hyung.

Ken You were doing well~!!

N In Mydol, having to compete with the members who were like family was really tormenting. After debuting, we have to compete with other groups so because of that our trust in each other is stronger. With us together, we’ll work hard so that only VIXX can have the personalities and colors to reach the top.

Leo From the first, second singles and activies and from now on, VIXX will find an image that fits us best and we’ll work harder to show a better side of us.

Q. You broke something that was valuable to another member. What do you do?
▷ Buy the exact same thing and slyly replace it
▶ Apologize first
▷ Keep hiding it
▷ Pretend you don’t know and say [It broke!]
- When you do something wrong, if you don’t tell the truth then you’re only tormenting yourself. If you do something bad and you tell the person, I think getting forgiveness is the right thing to do.

[About Twitter]

Q. Who likes Twitter? (N, Ken, Hongbin)

N I often use Twitter when there’s time. I like it because I can also communicate with foreign fans. Korean fans let us know quickly if VIXX becomes a topic somewhere. For example [VIXX is number 1 in search rankings].

Ken Fans call me [Cutie Main Vocal Ken] a lot on Twitter and that makes me really happy.

Hongbin When we’re traveling or before we go on stage, once I read cheering messages I receive a lot of strength. Also when it’s over and fans say [Today’s performance was great] and I become lively again, and work even harder during practice.

Ravi I don’t really use Twitter….

Leo More then using it, I read it. Like Hongbin, I receive strength from reading messages. When we’re in Korea, Japanese fans send us messages like [I miss you] or [I want to hear you sing], and likewise when we’re in Japan, Korean fans say [I miss you].

Hyuk I also don’t use Twitter often but not long ago I read it after a long time and my teacher from my first year of middle school sent me a message. It left a very deep impression on me.

Ken What did it say?

Hyuk It was a cheering message that said [Even though it’s tough, you’re working hard right?]

N It looks like Hyuk is going to cry~

Q. The members are having the biggest fight you’ve ever seen. What do you do?
▶ Watch until you reach a solution.
▷ Ask what happened.
▷ Call for the manager because it’s scary
▷ Participate in the fight.
- Since I don’t know the reason for the fight, I think it’d be good to wait for them to finish, and listen to their stories after they calm down.

Q. Who is the most aloof member? (Leo, Hyuk)

Ken Leo hyung and Hyuk are chic in any case! Even though Hyuk is the maknae he has no aegyo at all. Look, even now!

Hyuk It’s not that I don’t have any aegyo, but the hyungs are already too cute. That’s why I look unwelcoming. But even so, N hyung always makes me laugh and I like Ken hyung’s jokes (laughs). From my prospective they are very lovable hyungs.

Ken Our repertoire of personal talents is very wide. We can do from voice imitations of singers to animal cries.

Hongbin I am in charge of the visual! When we debuted, I had long hair so I received a lot of praises that I was handsome and that it was like I was a legend, but I also heard that I looked old. I received so much shock from those words that I cut it and now I have short hair (laughs). Now I hear that I look young like a high school student (laughs). Since I look younger, cutting my hair was the right thing!

Ravi I often hear that I sleep a lot. It seems that I snore… but I’m in such a deep sleep that I don’t realize it at all (cries). When the other members are tired their sleep is very shallow or they have vivid dreams, but because I sleep soooo~ deeply, I loosen up as much as I am tired (laughs). Even so, I don’t think I snore much these days.

Q. Who likes cleanliness the most? (Hongbin)

N Recently there hasn’t been anyone who does the housework for us. Even so, Hongbin likes cleanliness so when the cleaning ahjumma comes back, everything has already been taken care of.

Ravi Since he likes cleanliness, Hongbin is in charge of cleaning. N hyung is responsible for being the mom. Leo hyung is the dad. Hyuk is responsible for imitations.

Hongbin Ken also likes things to be clean.
