The Shrine at Danggae / Danggae'deki Tapınak

Uzun zaman önce, Baekryeong Adası Gwanchangdong’ta yaşayan bir bilge vardı.

Tarım yaparak ailesini geçindirirdi. Bir gün, saraydan geldiğini iddia eden bir ziyaretçisi oldu. Bilge, onu misafir olarak ağırladı. The Shrine at Danggae

Long long time age, a classical scholar lived in Gwanchangdong, Baekryeong Island.

He provided for his family by cultivating the soil on the foot of a mountain. One day, he had a guest, who claimed to be an official from the court. The scholar treated the guest well. Several days later, the guest led him to the beach, saying that there was a summons from the court. On the beach was a ship, quite unusual in its shape. It was rather sharp, and could navigate rather swiftly on the water, the kind of pirate ship.

The scholar realized that the guest was a pirate in disguise and hit him dead. The news reached the court. The King said,

"Bring this scholar here. I want to meet him and give him his reward."

A messenger from the court came to fetch him.

The scholar said good-bye to his family and left for the court. When they got on board the ship that the king sent for him, strong wind began to blow, and the scholar got drowned with the ship.

Legend has it that before leaving for the sea, people have to perform a religious service to the sea god, or the Sea God gets angry and raises the wind to wreck the ship.

The scholar forgot to perform the service, and that's why he got killed, they say.

Later when the King heard about his death, he dedicated a shrine to the scholar at Tanggae, and had the governor of the Baekryeong Island to perform the religious service every year.
