Kim Yu-na to Face Off Against Skating Legend Katarina Witt

Kim Yu-na Lagend Katarina Witt Ile Buz Pateninde Karsi Karsiya Mücadele Edecek

Olimpiyat sampiyonu Kim Yu-na efsanevi Alman buz patenci Katarina Witt ile buz da degil ama Lausanne’de 2018 Kis Olimpiyatlari için Uluslararasi Olimpiyat Komitesi’nin teknik bilgilendirmesinde karsi karsiya gelecek. Kim, Pyeongchang’in oyunlara ev sahipligi yapmasi için yapilan kampanyalarin iyi niyetli temsilcisi ve Witt’de Münih’in teklifindeki organizasyon komitesinin baskanlarindan. Her iki buz pateni yildizi da IOC üyelerinin önünde kendi kentlerini temsil edecek ve bir sunum yapacak.

Witt bayanlar buz pateninde en ilgi çekici patencilerden biridir, 1984 yilinda Sarajevo’da ve 1988 yilinda Calgary’de iki olimpiyat altin madalyasi kazanmistir ayrica dört kez de dünya sampiyonu olmustur. Kim de 2010’da Vancouver’de yapilan Olimpiyatlarda altin madalya ve dünya sampiyonasinin son iki sezonunda da gümüs madalya kazanmistir.

Olympic champion Kim Yu-na is to come up against German figure skating legend Katarina Witt, not on the ice but in the technical briefing of the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne for the 2018 Winter Olympics. Kim is the goodwill ambassador for Pyeongchang's campaign to host the games, and Witt heads the organizing committee for Munich's bid. Both figure skating stars will represent their own cities and make a presentation in front of IOC members.

Witt is one of the most decorated skaters in women's figure skating, having won two Olympic gold medals, in Sarajevo in 1984 and Calgary in 1988, and four world championships. Kim won the gold medal in the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, and silver in the last two seasons of the world championships.

South Korea's 2018 Winter Olympics bidder PyeongChang held a presentation for the members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), highlighting its advantages over rival cities, officials said.

Officials of the PyeongChang bid committee and figure skating star Kim Yu-na presented the IOC with the country's bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics at the technical briefing held on Wednesday (local time) in Lausanne, Switzerland, after two other candidate cities, Germany's Munich and France's Annecy.

The organizing committee of Pyeongchang's bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics gave a final 45-minute presentation in Lausanne, Switzerland on Wednesday in front of 88 out of the total 110 International Olympic Committee members. Pyeongchang's presentation followed briefings by rival cities Munich, Germany and Annecy, France.

"We faithfully delivered our message, which we spent 18 months to prepare, and received good evaluations from IOC members," said Cho Yang-ho, the head of the bid committee.

President Lee Myung-bak also sent a video-taped message that lasted two minutes and 45 seconds explaining Korea's rapid economic development over the last 60 years and the leading role in sports the country has played since it hosted the Summer Olympics in 1988, and pledging his government's full support if Pyeongchang is chosen.

100-Day Countdown Begins for World Athletics Championships

Dünya Atletizm Sampiyonasi’nin Baslamasi Için Geri Sayim Basladi

Daegu sehrinde yapilacak olan 2011 Dünya Atletizm Sampiyonasi’nin 100 günlük geri sayimi münasebetiyle çesitli etkinlikler düzenlendi.

Basbakan Kim Hwan-sik sehrin güney dogusundaki kutlamalar için düzenlenen geçis maratonunda iki bin on bir vatandasin arasinda yer aldi. Kim hükümetin basarili bir ev sahipligi saglamak için tam destek verecegini söyledi.

Daegu Asya’da Dünya Atletizm Sampiyonasi’na ev sahipligi yapan yalnizca iki sehirden biridir. Yapilanlarin ilki dört yil önce Japonya Osaka’daydi.

Dünya’nin en hizli adami olarak bilinen ve üç kez olimpiyat altin madalyasi kazanan Usain Bolt’un da aralarinda bulundugu 202 ülkeden yaklasik iki bin sporcu atletizm karsilasmasinda rekabet edecek. Seksen iki Güney Koreli sporcunun da yarismalara katilacagi bekleniyor.

Uluslararasi etkinlik 27 Agustosta Daegu’da açilacak ve doksan gün sürecek.

Daegu City has held various events to mark the 100-day countdown to the 2011 IAAF World Championships in Athletics.

Prime Minister Kim Hwang-sik was among two-thousand-eleven citizens who participated in a celebratory relay marathon held in the southeastern city. Kim said the government will give its full support to ensure a successful hosting of the event.

Daegu is only the second Asian city to host the IAAF World Championships in Athletics. Osaka, Japan was the first four years ago.
Some two-thousand athletes from 202 countries will be competing in the track and field meet, including three time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt, who is known as the fastest man in the world. Eighty-two South Korean athletes are expected to take part in the competition.

The international event will open in Daegu on August 27th for a nine-day run.

Teklif komitesi ve Hanjin Grup Baskani olan Cho Yang-ho Isviçre’nin Lausanne kentinde iki gün süren IOC etkinliginden sonra “Pyeongchang Uluslararasi Olimpiyat Komitesi (IOC) üyelerinden teknik bilgilendirme sirasinda olumlu elestiriler aldi, fakat biz çok memnun olamadik.” açiklamasini yapti.

The head of the Olympic bid committee for the South Korean alpine town of PyeongChang said Thursday that he will not lower his guard until the final announcement of the host city for the 2018 Winter Games, with the decisive vote less than two months away.

"PyeongChang received a favorable evaluation from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) members at the technical briefing here, but we should not be too complacent," said Cho Yang-ho, chairman of the bid committee and Hanjin Group, after the two-day IOC event in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Top seed Choi Na-yeon advanced to the second round of the $1.5 million LPGA Match Play Championship by beating Scotland’s Catriona Matthew 3 and 2 but second seed Shin Jiyai was eliminated.

South Korea’s Choi, claiming the top seed by virtue of leading last year’s LPGA money list, was level with her European rival until a birdie at the par-4 15th and a bogey by Matthew at the par-3 16th gave her the victory.

Choi’s next opponent will be another British rival, 43rd seed Karen Stupples of England, who defeated South Korean 32nd seed Pak Se-ri 2 and 1.
