Lee calls for S. Korea to prepare for Smart Era

Devlet Baskani Lee Myung-bak, Güney Kore'nin ''Akilli Dönem'' için yapilan çalismalari artirmasi gerektigini söyledi.

Lee, televizyon kanallari ve haber ajanslari yetkilileriyle katildigi bir toplantida ''Dünya dijital dönemi asti, artik sira 'akilli' dönemde'' diye konustu. Sözlerine ''Bu yil, birçok seyin büyük orantida degisime ugrayacagi bir yil olacak'' diye devam etti.

Devlet Baskani, dijital ürünlerdeki büyük degisimden ve özellikle akilli telefon ve tablet bilgisayarlardaki gelisimden bahsetti.

President Lee Myung-bak said that South Korea needs to redouble efforts to prepare for the so-called Smart Era.

"The world is entering the Smart Era, transcending the Digital Era," Lee said in his speech at a New Year's meeting with the heads of local broadcasters and news agencies. "This year will be a year that an enormous change begins on a full scale."

The president was apparently pointing out a shift in digital circumstances, especially with the development of smartphones and tablet computers.

S. Korea develops world's first 4G mobile system

Güney Kore Dünyanin ilk 4G mobil sistemini gelistirdi.
Hükümetin Sali günü yaptigi açiklamaya göre;Güney Kore su andaki 3G kablosuz ag sisteminden 40 kat daha hizli veri transferi saglayan dünyanin ilk 4.nesil (4G) mobil iletisim sistemini gelistirdi.
Bilisim Ekonomisi Bakani, devlet tarafindan isletilen Elektronik ve Iletisim Arastirma Enstitüsünün (ETRI) laboratuar kosullari disinda basarili bir Ileri Derece-Uzun Vadeli Evrim (LTE-Advanced) testini gerçeklestirdigini belirtti.
Bu sistem saniyede 600 Megabit bilgi transferi ile, kullanicilarin 40 km hizla hareket eden bir araçta yüksek çözünürlüklü (HD) ve üç boyutlu TV izlemelerine ya da siradan 700 MB li bir CD içerigini 9,3 saniyede indirmelerine olanak sagliyor. Sistem ayrica Seoul’un temmuzda geçmeyi planladigi 3.9 neslinden ya da LTE’den 6 kat daha hizli.
Bakanligin bilisim ve teknoloji ofisinin basi Jeong-Marn ki; kablosuz iletisim, ag ve bilgi transferi, sinyal kontrol sistemleri gibi bütün bilesenlerin disaridan hiç bir yardim alinmadan gelistirildigini söyledi.
Mevcut olan teknoloji, fonksiyonel bir 4G mobil iletisim sistemi için gerekli olan teknolojinin %95 ini karsilamakta diyen baskan, henüz gelistirilmemis olan teknolojinin Nisan ayinda toplanacak olan Uluslararasi Iletisim Birligi tarafindan belirlenmesi beklenen uluslararasi 4G iletisim standartlarinin yaratilmasini beklemek zorunda olduklarini ekledi.
Diger bazi ülkelere kiyasla Güney Kore ülke çapinda bir 3.9 G LTE sistemi kurulmasinda geç kalmis olsa da; tahminen 2015 yilinda yerel ticari bir servis baslatabilecek 4G Ileri-LTE sistemini ilk edineceklerdendir.
Elektronik Ve Arastirma Enstitüsü (ETRI) Ileri-LTE ile ilgili 24 patente sahip olduklarini ve arastirma-gelistirme asamasinda ögrendikleri 500 sürece dair fikri mülkiyet hakki için basvurduklarini açikladi.
ETRI, Güney Kore firmalarinin, tüm 4G iletisim teknolojilerine iliskin patent haklarinin en az %23üne, 3.9G teknolojisine ait patent haklarinin %19una kadarini ve 3G genis bantli erisim teknolojisinin patent haklarinin %10una sahip olabilecegini ekledi.

South Korea has successfully developed the world's first fourth-generation (4G) mobile telecommunication system that can transmit data 40 times faster than the current 3G wireless network, the government said Tuesday.
The Ministry of Knowledge Economy said the state-run Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has succeeded in trying out an operational Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-Advanced) system outside of laboratory conditions.
The system allows users to view high-definition, three-dimensional TV images while in a car moving 40 kilometers per hour and transmit 600 megabits of data per second (Mbps), which enables a regular 700 megabyte CD to be downloaded in 9.3 seconds. It is also six times faster than the LTE, or 3.9 generation, system that Seoul plans to set up in July.
"All components including wireless communications, network and data transfer and signal control systems were developed locally without outside help," Jeong Marn-ki, head of the ministry's information technology industry office said.
The technology acquired meets 95 percent of the requirements needed for a functional 4G mobile communications system, he said, adding technologies not yet developed must wait for the creation of a worldwide standard on 4G telecommunications that is expected to be set by the International Telecommunication Union in April.
Compared to some other countries, South Korea was slow in establishing a nationwide 3.9G LTE system, but it will probably be an early adopter of the 4G LTE-Advanced that could start local commercial service around 2015, the official said.
ETRI said that it has acquired 24 patents related to LTE-Advanced and has applied for intellectual property protection on 500 processes learned during the research and development stage.
South Korean companies may hold least 23 percent of all patent rights on 4G communications technology, up from 19 percent for 3.9G and 10 percent for 3G wideband code division multiple access, it added.
