Prominent artists to teach students in middle schools

Önde Gelen Sanatçilar Ortaokul Ögrencilerine Ders Verecek

Sehrin egitim kurumu cuma günü, Seoul'deki ortaokul ögrencilerinin yakin bir zamanda tiyatro oyunculari, ressamlar, yazarlar, Kore klasik müzigi sanatçilari ve film egitmenleri gibi birçok sanatçidan ders alacagini söyledi.

Seoul Büyüksehir Egitim Kurumu, Kültür Bakanliginin sanatçilari okullara göndermesiyle mevcut sistemin gelistirilecegini ve baskentteki ortaokullarda edebiyat ve sanatta ilerleme kaydedilecek bu projenin önümüzdeki ay baslayacagi söyledi.

Middle school students in Seoul will soon come under the tutelage of art specialists, including stage actors, painters, authors, Korean classical musicians and special instructors of film, Seoul's municipal education office said Friday.

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education (SMOE) said that it will launch a project of special instructors next month in a bid to vitalize education on literature and art in middle schools in the capital, expanding an existing system run with the culture ministry to send arts experts to schools.

Medical, dental colleges post hottest competition ratio for decade last year

Enstitü verilerine göre, girisin çok zor olmasina ragmen tip ve dis hekimligi fakültelerinin, geçen sene Güney Koreli lise son ögrencileri arasinda en çok ragbet edilen okullar oldugu görüldü.

Kore Egitim Gelistirme Enstitüsü tarafindan hazirlanan "2010 Egitim Istatistikleri," tip ve dis hekimligi fakültelerine 198,222 lise ögrencisinin basvurdugu, fakat sadece 16,266'sinin kabul edildigini gösterdi.

Medical and dental colleges were the most sought-after schools among South Korean high school seniors last year, with the competition to enter them remaining the toughest for a decade, industry data showed Monday.

According to the "2010 Education Statistics" released by the Korea Educational Development Institute, 198,222 high school seniors applied for medical and dental colleges and only 16,266 of them were accepted, recording a competition ratio of 12.2:1.

Korean students flock to Syria to learn Arabic

Koreli Ögrenciler Arapça Ögrenmek Için Suriye'ye Akin Ediyor

Suriye, güvenli ortami ve geçim masraflarinin düsük olmasi sebebiyle Arapça ögrenmek isteyen Güney Koreli ögrenciler için yeni bir merkez haline geliyor.

Oradaki ögrencilerin söyledigine göre, devlet kurumlarinda ve özel kurumlarda, camilerde ya da özel derslerle dil ögrenen Koreli 41 ögrenci, su anda Orta Dogu ülkesinde ikamet ediyor.

Syria is fast becoming a new hub for South Korean students wishing to learn Arabic, thanks to its safe environment and low living costs, among other reasons.

Forty-one Korean students are currently living in the Middle Eastern country, studying the language at private and public institutions, mosques, as well as through private lessons, students there said.

Libraries at Korean universities uncompetitive worldwide: study

Yapilan bir arastirmaya göre, Güney Kore'nin en büyük 10 üniversite kütüphanesi, içerdigi kitap bakimindan batidaki benzer kütüphanelerin gölgesinde kaldi.

Kore Egitim ve Arastirma Bilgi Servisine göre, içinde Seoul Ulusal Üniversitesi ve Kyungpook Ulusal Üniversitesi'nin de bulundugu Kore'nin en büyük 20 üniversitesine bagli kütüphaneler ortalama olarak 1.91 milyon kitap bulunduruyor.

The 20 biggest university libraries in South Korea are dwarfed by their Western counterparts in terms of book possession at libraries, a study showed Tuesday.

According to the Korea Education and Research Information Service (KERIS), libraries affiliated with Korea's 20 biggest universities, including Seoul National University (SNU) and Kyungpook National University (KNU), house 1.91 million volumes on average.

Seoul Ulusal Üniversitesi, 60 Üniversite Arasina Adini Yazdirdi

Seoul Ulusal Üniversitesi, dünya çapindaki en iyi 60 üniversiteden biri olarak siralamaya girdi.

Ingiltere'de yer alan Times Higher Education tarafindan üniversitelerin popüleritesini temel alark yapilan dünyanin zirve üniversiteleri anketine göre Seoul Ulusal Üniversitesi tipki Ohio Devlet Üniversitesi ve Japonya'nin Tohoku Üniversitesi gibi dünyadaki en iyi üniversitelerden 50 ile 60. siralar arsinda yerini aldi.

Seoul Nat'l Named Top-60 University

Seoul National University (SNU) has been ranked one of the top 60 universities in the world.

In the survey of top world universities in terms of reputation conducted by Britain’s Times Higher Education, SNU ranked between the top 50 and 60 universities in the world, as did Ohio State University and Japan's Tohoku University.

Üniversiteye giris kolaylastiriliyor

Bugüne kadar ebeveynlerden ve ögrencilerden liseye giris sisteminin zorluklariyla ilgili sayisiz sikayet gelmesinin sonucu olarak, 2012 akademik yilindan itibaren liseye giris sisteminin yani sira üniversiteye giris sartlarinda da kisitlamaya gidilecek.

Toplamda 84 üniversite giris sartnamesini yeniden gözden geçirecek ve kolaylastiracak. Ayrica, alti üniversite de okula giris sinavlarini tamamen kaldirmaya karar verdi. Ancak 41 üniversite giris sinavi sistemine devam edecek. Bu sayede üniversiteye girebilmek için giris sinavina girmesi gereken ögrenci sayisinin 22.486'dan 16.832'ye düsmesi bekleniyor.

University admissions get easier

After criticism from parents and students that the college admissions system was too confusing, Korea’s university admissions procedure will be simplified for the 2012 academic year.

Eighty-four universities will modify their admissions procedures. Moreover, six universities decided to abolish their entrance exams altogether. 41 universities will continue to have them. The number of students expected to take an essay-based exam for university admission is expected to drop to 16,832 from 22,486.

Geçtigimiz günlerde yapilan bir arastirma sonucu, Seoul'da yasayan ailelerin çocuklarinin okul saatleri disinda aldiklari özel dersler için her ay ortalama 560.000 won (490 amerikan dolari) harcadigi ortaya çikti. Bu veriler, fazlasiyla çekismeli bir toplumda basarili olabilmenin anahtarinin egitimden geçtigi tezini dogruluyor.

Aylik 1.99 milyondan az bir gelire sahip ailelerin özel dersler için 245.600 won, 6 milyondan fazla gelir elde edenlerin ise 807.600 won harcadiklari belirtildi.

Arastirma sonuçlarina göre, ögrencinin okul seviyesinin ilkokuldan liseye dogru yükselmesiyle paralel olarak egitim masraflari da çogaliyor. Günümüzde ortaokul ve lise ögrencisi birçok Koreli gelecekte seçkin üniversitelere girebilmek için okuldan arta kalan zamanlarinda da özel ders aliyor.

Tutoring fees eat into family budgets

Seoul families spend a monthly average of 560,000 won ($490) for their children’s private cram schools, a survey showed, underscoring the idea that education is the key to success in this highly competitive society.

It found that parents who have a monthly income of less than 1.99 million won spend 245,600 won per month, while those who make more than 6 million won pay 807,600 won for private education.

The survey also showed that education costs increased as children moved up from primary schools to high schools. Many Korean children, mostly middle and high school students, attend private cram schools after regular classes to gain admission to elite universities.
