Seonam Temple (선암사 / Seonam-sa)
Seonam-sa, Chogye Tapınağı da denir. Hwasang Dağı'nın eğiminde 529'da inşa edildi. 861'de Kral Kyongmunu'nun ilk yılında Rahip Toson Kuksa tapınağı genişleterek Büyük tapınak haline getirdi. Zen budizmini ifade eden tapınak 1597-98 yıllarında Japon istilası sırasında Kral Yongjo'nun hükümdarlığı zamanında ateşe verilerek yakılmış ve büyük bir kısmı yok olmuştur. 1985'de Taekoch ongrim Budist liderlerinin eğitimi için tapınağı yeniden inşa etti. Modern yıllarda tarikatçı tartışmalarına rağmen Hammyong, Kyongbung, Kyongwun, ve Kumbong'un baş pazarı haline gelmişti.Deniz seviyesinden 887 metre yüksekliktedir. Bulunduğu dağ Kore'nin diğer dağları gibi uçurum değildir. Dağ geniş yapraklı ağaçlarla kaplıdır. Pitoresk Piryong ve Kamch 'oam çağlayanları dağın güzelliğine güzellik katar. Seonam-sa Temple of Chogye-san is said to have originated from the Biro-am hermitage which Priest Ado Hwasang built at the slope of this mountain (called Ch'omgryang-san at that time) in 529, In 861, the first year of King Kyongmun of Shilla, priest Toson Kuksa built here a large temple, Seonam-sa, to develop Zen Buddhism. While staying at the Taekak-am hermitage in 1094, Taekak Kuksa renamed the mountain Chogye-san and expanded the temple, blending various Buddhist tenets into one that embodied Zen Buddhism.
Most of the temple's structures were destroyed during a Japanese invasion during 1597-98 and in a fire during the reign of King Yongjo (r.1724-76) of Chosun. The temple was restored on several occasions by a number of priests. Despite sectarian disputes in the modern years, the temple has produced a number of high priests including Hammyong, Kyongbung, Kyongwun, and Kumbong. In 1985, the temple established Taekoch'ongrim to train Buddhist leaders and better develop traditional Buddhism in Korea.
Surrounding Chogye-san is not very high (only reaching 887 meters above sea level) or steep like many of Korea's other famous mountains. However, many visitors come to the area to enjoy hiking and taking in the natural scenery. One of the most popular trails extends between Seonam-sa and Songgwang-sa on the other side of the park. The entire mountain is covered with broad-leaved deciduous trees. Picturesque Piryong and Kamch'oam waterfalls add to the mountain's beautiful scenery. Near Seonam-sa are thick groves of oak, camellia, maple, chestnut, zelkova, and wild cherry trees hundreds of years old.
