‘The absence of ‘Big Hit’ rookies? 2 are on the way!’


[Lee Miyoung reporter] It’s only 2 months left till the year end award ceremonies. As opposed to the K-pop craze that is spreading all over the world, singers now have active and exceptional domestic activities. Even at the year end awards, the Daesang (T/N: Biggest award) is the most cutthroat award.

But there is another reason why the rookie awards cannot be easily predicted. Blame it on the absence of ‘Big Hit Rookies’. Miss A, Sistar and other groups who debuted last year and grabbed number 1, went against one another and produced a contrasting mood.

It’s not that there are no rookies. There was a flood of rookie groups in the idol craze but the competition itself is a difficult environment. The idol groups release albums in 2-3 month intervals and dominate the industry, and the attack of singers on audition programs like ‘I’m A Singer’ is scary.

But the biggest reason is that rookie singers fail even if they show a unique charm. Especially in the case of idol groups, the current groups’ commercial traits are imitated closely. The reason is that the hits cannot last with such risks.

The end of 2011, the attack of rookies, who aim for normalcy, continues on the entertainment industry. Groups M.I.B and MYNAME, among others, are rookies who are garnering attention in the entertainment industry as ’2011′s final weapons’.

If that is so, MYNAME has all the commercial points while simultaneously going through the ‘standard procedure of idols’.

The 5-member male group MYNAME have been receiving attention from before their debut as ‘Hwanhee Boys’, discovered and personally produced by 1st generation idol Hwanhee. Among the members Seyong, Insoo, JunQ, Chaejin and Gunwoo, their diverse bios include being a JYP trainee and being on ‘SuperstarK 2′, showing these ‘Mom’s friend’s sons’ have 5 different characters.

These guys will unveil their charms through MTV reality program ‘It’s MY NAME’ simultaneously with their debut, and are writing their strategy to get closer to the public.

In MYNAME’s recent interview with JoyNews24, they explained, “We get everything from Hwanhee. Our team’s strongest point is that we can show a diverse image through our members’ individual and unit activities.”

Making TVXQ their role model, they members are good at singing and dancing among other things, and are energetic and organized.

M.I.B and MYNAME will be making their debut at the same time on the 27th at M!Countdown and on the 28th at Music Bank, etc. These guys will enter the entertainment industry and stop the famine of big hit rookies and gain a lot of attention.

“I tease the hyungs a lot. The hyungs think it’s cute when I do it, so I’ll show that side of me to the fans in future. JunQ hyung’s charm is his tenor voice and his gaps. If I can’t sleep at night, I’ll talk to hyung beside me and I fall asleep in an instant (laughs). Insoo hyung gets more charming the more you look at him. He always puts in a lot of effort. He is unexpectedly clean as well. haha. Even though Seyong hyung is shameless, he is witty and speaks well, so he gets close to people instantly. He also likes to tease others. Lastly, the leader Gunwoo hyung’s charm is his inner humor.”(Chaejin)

[OSEN=Hwang Mihyun reporter] MYNAME, the group that was a topic for being the trained by Hwanhee, exposes their image.

Known as ‘Hwanhee Boys’, this 5-member group which consists of leader Gunwoo, Seyong, Insoo, JunQ and Chaejin lived in the netizens’ curiosity. You can even call them a rainbow-like group which is not subjected to any individuals.

We recently met MYNAME who are overflowing with ambition and full of desire. After preparing for 2 years, these guys will take their first step into the music industry with their single album ‘Message’. How do these guys, who will shake the music industry, feel?

“We still don’t feel it. Even now, we’re practicing from afternoon till the next morning. I think the feeling will come when we stand on our first stage. We think that we have to do well, so we spend our time practicing no matter what. Our song ‘Message’ is a very strong song with no space for rest. There will also be b-boying in our choreography, so it is a dynamic performance. We hope the fans will like it.” (Gunwoo)

MYNAME has worked hard on their debut song ‘Message’. They don’t fall behind in every single step and even their expressions. They sincerely introduced their song, saying that ‘Message’ is a song that relates to guys.

“It’s a situation everyone has gone through before. Guys can relate to this song better. It’s about not receiving a reply after sending a text message to the girl you like. It’s a song that expresses the anxiousness in that situation. You can even say it’s a song that everyone can sing and follow along. I liked the structure of the song.”(JunQ)

What is Hwanhee like to MYNAME? It’s well-known that Hwanhee produces for MYNAME. We are curious as to how Hwanhee conducted training with the members.

“He gave us training. From dancing to humanity lessons, we got them all from Hwanhee Hyung. We all call him Hwanhee Hyung. He really takes good care of us. He suddenly came to our dorm bringing snacks, and told us interesting stories and even gave us advice. When that happens, we feel like we should repay him with good performances. There is a famous advice that Hwanhee Hyung gave us. With his tenor voice, he coolly told us, ‘Remember the difference between confidence and arrogance. They said there were many interesting stories with Hwanhee.

“We were all recording together. We were really tired from recording for a long time, so he did impersonations for us. He impersonated the composer..There were many times we got shocked because we thought it really was the composer talking.(laughs) Another time while we were having practice early in the morning, he suggested that we go to the Han River to play basketball. The members and even the staff were all excited, but it suddenly started raining heavily. Hwanhee hyung said “You need to try this” so we had fun playing basketball. In the end we all caught a cold the next day.”(Insoo)

These guys’ role model is TVXQ. They said they want to follow TVXQ’s perfection. When talking about how TVXQ is not lacking in anything, the members also expressed their aspirations for this album.

“Our role model is TVXQ seniors. They are not lacking in anything. Height, singing, dancing, rap, they are perfect in everything. We also want to be a perfect group like them. TVXQ are our final goal and also idols. We want to be a group that does well in everything.”(Insoo)

“We want to tell people our name through this album. We want to hear words like ‘In MYNAME, there is this type of member’, ‘They do well even though they are rookies.’ Of course we want to win #1, but we will work hard for this musical promotions to let people know the name MYNAME.
