Tarihi ise Kral Sejong dönemine dayanmaktadır.

Günümüzde Dünya çapında Gümrük İdareleri hükümetleri adına çok yönlü hizmetlerde bulunmaktadır. Ticaret eşyalarının toplanması, korunması, ticaretin kolaylaştırılması ve ulusal güvenliğin korunması gibi görevleri vardır.

Ekonomik kalkınma ulusal refahı teşvik etmek Kore Gümrük idaresinin görevleri olup ayrıca hesap verebilirlik, ahlaka dayalı, etkin ve verimli olarak çalışma ilkelerine sahiptir.

Kore Gümrük İdaresi gelişmiş teknolojileri ve yenlilikleri çalışmalarıyla tanıtmak için bir girişim başlatmıştır. Hedefleri ise uluslararası güvenlik ve toplum güvenliğini korumak şartıyla ticareti kolaylaştırmaktır ayrıca bunu zihinlere aktarmak için sıkı bir şekilde çalışmaktadırlar.
