1 Mayis 1979’da açilan Kangwon Üniversitesi Müzesi 1 Mayis 1979’da (su anki adi KWUM). KWUM açildigindan bu yana kazi çalismalariyla tarihi kalintilari, günümüze kalan geleneksel araç gereçleri toplamistir.KWUM resmi olarak 11 Ekim 1985’de açildi ve halkla bulustu. 5 Haziran 2000’de genisletilmis tesisleriyle yeniden açildiginda kendisinin binasi olan Kasim 1999’da onarilmis bir müzeyi içerirmekteydi. KWUM tarih öncesi çagdan kalma çok fazla sayida kalintiyi barindirmakta ve sergilemektedir.Bundan dolayi tarihi egitimin halka ve ögrencilere ulasmasi bakimindan çok önemli bir rol oynamaktadir. Buna ek olarak KWUM Eski Joseon Hanedanligindan kalma vatanperver askerlerin tarihiyle ilgili tarihsel materyalleri sergilemekte ve bir çok insani bu askerlerin dönemi ve o zamanin gerçek kosullari hakkinda bilgilendirmektedir. Ayrica KWUM’un Kore Geleneksel Kültürünü restore ettigi ve tarih hakkinda egitimsel materyallere katki sagladigi düsünülmektedir; çünkü çok çesitli tarihi kalintilar hakkinda arastirma yapmis ve bu arastirmanin sonucunu yayinlamistir.

Kangwon University Museum (henceforth, KWUM) opened on May 1, 1979. Since the opening, KWUM has excavated and collected lots of historic relics and folklore materials. KWUM was officially opened and displayed to the public permanently on October 11, 1985. It had its own building as a museum, repaired it in November 1999, and was reopened expanding its facilities on June 5, 2000.
KWUM houses a wide variety of historic relics from the prehistoric age to today and displayed them.So KWUM plays an important role in spreading historical education to many students and the public.
In addition, KWUM displayed the historical materials related to the patriotic soldiers' history in the late Joseon Dynasty and enlightened many people about the patriotic soldiers' history and exact circumstances at that time. Also, KWUM is considered to contribute to supply educational materials about history and restore the Korean traditional culture, because it has made an investigation into various historic relics and published the results of research.
