Güneş takvimine göre 4 Şubat gibi başlayan Ipchun, baharın başladığı gündür. Ipchun kelimesi Çince karakterlerden oluşan 'baharın gelmesi' olarak tercüme edilebilir. Ipchun , yılın 24 döneminin ilki olduğu için verimli bir tarım yılı olması dileğiyle çeşitli törenlerin düzenlendiği çok önemli bir gün olarak algılanmaktadır. İnsanlar, baharın gelişini kutlamak için Çince karakterle dikdörtgen beyaz bir kağıda ip-chun-dae-gil yazarlar. Daha sonra o kişinin kapı önüne asılır. Bu yazının, ailenin sağlığını ve huzurunu koruyan bir tılsım olarak düşünülür.

Ipchun

Ipchun is the day that marks the beginning of spring. According to the solar calendar, ipchun is around Feb. 4th. The word ipchun is comprised of Chinese characters that can be translated as ‘spring comes’. Since ipchun is the first term among the 24 terms of the year, it is perceived as a highly important day when various ceremonies are held to wish a productive farming year.
To celebrate and welcome the spring season, people write down the Chinese characters ‘立春大吉’ (ip-chun-dae-gil) on a rectangular shaped white piece of paper. Afterwards, the paper is obliquely hung on the front of one’s house door. This was thought as a form of charm that protects the family’s health and peace.

Celebrate Ipchun, The First Day of Spring

Now everyone can take part in Ipchun, the traditional Korean spring rituals that are performed to ensure peace and happiness for the New Year. Ipchun is the first of a 24 seasonal divisions of the lunar calendar. Beginning from ancient times, Korean people used these divisions to guide them when doing farming activities such as planting and harvesting. Events will be held on Febuary 4th, the official first day of spring according to the lunar calendar. Participate and be sure that the year of Gyeongin, The White Tiger, will be a great one!
