Gangwon İl Koleji, 3 milyonluk Gangwon nüfusunun isteği üzerine inşa edilmiştir. Gangwon’un tek devlet okulu olan bu okul, yetenekli öğrenciler arasından, seçkin olanları öne çıkaran bir vizyona karşıdır.
Doğu Denizi ile zengin çam ormanı boyunca uzayan kampus; konferans salonları, laboratuarlar, Sanat Bilgi Teknolojisi gibi bölümlere sahip Bilgi Merkezi, öğrenci merkezleri ve Haesong Salonu’ndan oluşmaktadır. Okul; şirketlerde bulunan birkaç yıllık endüstriyel deneyimler ve uluslar arası üniversitelerdeki pratik deneyimlere sahip bir fakülte binası ile hayallerin gerçekleştiği bir kampus oluşturmayı hedefliyor.
Buna ek olarak kolej; öğrencilerin mezun olduktan sonra endüstriyel dünyaya adapte olmaları için, Kore’deki bütün kolejler arasında en gelişmiş deneysek ekipmanlardan birine sahip, rekabet gücü yüksek bir eğitim müfredatı sunmaktadır. Üniversite ile il yönetimi, öğrencilerin istihdamına destek için rekabetçi bir eğitim ortamına sahip olmasının yanı sıra Pacific Pim. Devrinde büyüme bekliyor.


Kampüs
Kampüs, Gangneung şehir merkezinin kuzeyinde, Jumunjin-eup’daki denize komşu çamlık alanın yukarısında bulunmaktadır. Yeondong Otobanı yakınındadır ve Seoul’den otobüs ile kolayca ulaşılabilir. Taebaek Dağı ile Japon Denizi sularına da kolay erişim imkanı sağlamaktadır. Son yıllarda kampüse, açık hava tiyatrosunun yanı sıra, profesyonel bir futbol sahasının da dahil olduğu birçok ilave yapılmıştır.


Tarih
1995 yılında, kurulması için izin verilen üniversite, 1998 yılında açılmıştır. İlk mezunları, 1998’in Mart ayında GPC’ye girmiştir. Üniversite kurulduğu günden bu yana, Eğitim, Bilim & Teknoloji Bakanlığı tarafından verilen “Üstün Kolej” ödülünün de dahil olduğu birçok prestijli ödülün sahibi olmuştur. Ayrıca, bir Akademik-Endüstriyel konsorsiyum yönetmek için seçilmiş ve Kore Konseyi’nden seçkin bir şube, üniversite eğitimini değerlendirmeye almıştır.


Organizasyon
GPC başkanından, Gangwon il valisine doğrudan gönderilen bir rapora göre GPC 4 bölümden oluşmaktadır: Doğa Bilimleri, Mühendislik, Beşeri&Sosyal Bilimler ve Beden eğitimi.

Bu 4 bölüm toplam 13 şubeden oluşmaktadır:
• Deniz polisi & Teknoloji, Deniz yaşam bilimleri, Gıda işleme & Fırınlama
• Kadastrol bilim & Emlak, Turizm, Çocuk eğitimi & Bakımı, İnşaat mühendisliği, Bilgi & İletişim
• Otomotiv mühendisliği, Endüstriyel tasarım, Yangın & Afet önleme, Dijital içerik teknikleri,
• Eğlence sporları


Öğrenciler ve Öğretim
Şubat 2010 itibariyle, okulda yaklaşık 1400 öğrenci, 33 tam zamanlı profesör, 13 yardımcı doçent ve 90 yarı zamanlı öğretim elemanı bulunmaktadır. Yine Şubat 2010 itibarıyla, yaklaşık 3.500 öğrenci okuldan mezun olmuştur.


Yerel Toplum İşbirliği
GPC, kurulduğu günden bu yana yerel halk ile birlikte çalıştı. Kampüs kamuya açıktır ve okul bölümleri, yerel sanayi ile yakından bağlantılıdır. Örneğin, ‘Jumunjin cinsi kalamar’ anlamındaki “Jumunjingeo” kelimesinin ortaya çıkmasında öncü bir rolü vardır. Bu kelime hem şehir isminin, hem de balık yerine kullanılan Korece bir kelimenin birleşiminden oluşmaktadır. Jumunjin’de en çok bilinen deniz hayvanı kalamardır.

Gangwon Provincial College was built on warm support and will from three million Gangwon population. It is the only public school of Gangwon Province and it’s a school with a vision which turned out to be a cradle for outstanding talented.
The campus consist of the deep blue East sea and rich pine trees forest along with lecture halls, labs, student centers, Haesong hall and the information center that has the state of the art information technology. We aim to create a campus with dream breating and we have the faculty body with several years of industrial experiences in companies and practical experiences at international universities.
In addition, the college offers a highly competitive educational curriculum by having one of the most advanced experimental equipment among all colleges in Korea which allow graduates to be able to adapt to the industrial world upon graduation. The college and the province government posses a competitive educational environment to support students' employment and expect to even grow in the era of the Pacific Rim.


Campus
The campus is located over piny field adjacent to the sea in Jumunjin-eup, north of Gangneung ’s city center. It lies close to the Yeongdong Expressway and is easily accessible from Seoul by bus. Situated between the Taebaek Mountain range and the Sea of Japan, the campus enjoys easy access to the waters of the Sea of Japan as well as Jumunjin Harbor. There have been several additions to the campus in recent years, including a professional turf soccer field as well as an outdoor performance theater.


History
Permission to establish the college was granted in 1995, and the college opened in 1998. The first graduating class entered GPC in March 1998. The college has been the recipient of several prestigious awards since its inception, including an ‘Outstanding College’ award by the National Ministry of Education. Furthermore, it has been selected to manage an Academic-Industrial consortium and has also received an outstanding departmental evaluation from the Korean Council for College Education.


Organization
The president of GPC reports directly to the governor of Gangwon Province. GPC consists of four divisions: Natural Sciences,Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences, and Physical Education.

Within these four divisions there are a total of 13 departments:

• Marine Police & Technology, Marine Life Sciences, Food Processing & Bakery,
• Cadastral Science & Real Estate, Tourism, Child Education & Care, Civil Engineering, Information & Communication,
• Automotive Engineering, Industrial Design, Fire-Environmental & Disaster Prevention, Digital Contents Techniques,
• Leisure Sports.


Students and Faculty
As of February 2010, the school has about 1,400 students, 33 full-time professors, 13 adjunct professors and over 90 part-time lecturers. By February 2010, a total of about 3,500 students have graduated from the school.


Cooperation with Local Community
GPC has, since its inception, worked together with the local community. The campus itself is open to the general public, and the school’s departments have closely linked with local industries. For example, the college has a leading role in establishing a ‘Jumunjin Brand Squid’, whose name ‘Jumunjingeo’ combines the name of the town as well as the Korean word for fish. In Jumunjin, the most well known marine animal is squid.
