on-going dispute that’s haunting the drama. Lee Kyun wrote “Everyday is excessive. As someone who is present in this excessive situation, it got me thinking about a lot of things. My day flew by with me waiting on standby for 8 hours. More than today, I am worried about tomorrow. Uhng-Uhng“. After reading this, Lee Kyun’s friends responded
with concern. A friend of Lee Kyun’s said, “Kyun-ah, you are
suffering so much. But I’m still hoping that you’ll endure until the drama ends,” to which Lee Kyun replied, “I will always faithfully work hard.”
The reason why Lee Kyun wrote these words on Twitter was to express his stifling feelings about Han Ye Seul’s refusal to show up for filming.
On August 14th, Han Ye Seul failed to show up for her scheduled filming. At the time, Han Ye Seul’s representatives stated that her absence was due to health issues; it was later revealed that it was actually due to a conflict between Han Ye Seul and the production crew. The production team of SBS’s ‘Star King‘ released an official apology for the controversy they caused over a depiction of Muslims during their August 13th broadcast.
On August 15th, the team wrote a letter titled “We are apologizing for our description about the Muslim culture“, which was uploaded onto the show’s official homepage.
The letter stated, “August 13th’s broadcast last week featured a segment called ‘18 year old girl from Saudi Arabia, Ruby’s dream’. While introducing the guest, some contents could’ve been viewed as if we were belittling Saudi Arabian religion and traditions. We apologize for our mistake.”
The team also added, “We only wished to emphasize the guest’s desire for singing and did not have any intentions to belittle the Muslim culture. We will take extreme measures from now on so that we don’t bring about any further misunderstandings over our depictions and interpretations of different religions and cultures featured in our program.”
August 13th’s broadcast of ‘Star King’ was swept up in a controversy after it aired footage of a man dressed as an Arab threatening MC Kang Ho Dong while holding a rifle. It was criticized widely among netizens for degrading the Muslim religion and culture.

Han Ye Seul, the embattled star actress that left for LA amid controversy surrounding her drama “Myung Wol the Spy,” spoke with Korean media for the first time on Monday. After her arrival in LA on August 15th, Sports Korea caught up with her and talked about her feelings about abruptly leaving the show as the main lead actress. “I gave up everything. The working environment (of the drama) was just too hard for me,” Han Ye Seul said. She said the whole controversy started because of the poor working environment and differences between her and the production crew, and implied this might be the end of her celebrity career in Korea.
However, Han Ye Seul denied rumors of her disagreement with the main PD. She just repeated that she’s in need of a rest, hinting that the whole filming process has been both physically and mentally tough for her. “I just hope my hoobaes (younger people) won’t be the same victim as me,” she said. It has been reported that Han Ye Seul complained about the “killer filming schedule” of the show as she was required to show up five days a week. That caused her to get in a big fight with the main PD and she reportedly requested KBS to replace the whole production crew.

On August 16th, Han Ye Seul’s agency, sidusHQ, released an official explanation regarding the actress’ refusal to appear on set for her KBS drama, ‘Spy Myung Wol‘, in addition to her sudden departure for Los Angeles.

They stated, “Before we begin, we would like to deeply bow our heads in apology for having to greet everyone in this unsavory situation. Both Han Ye Seul and sidusHQ are feeling a great sense of responsibility over this controversy.”

“At the time, Han Ye Seul was in an extremely exhausted condition, both mentally and physically, from the busy shooting schedule. After being forced to continue filming in this state, her judgment became clouded and as a result, she’s caused harm to many people. We are truly apologetic for this.”
With regards to Han Ye Seul’s return to the drama set, sidusHQ stated, “We will do our very best to get her to return as quickly as possible and complete filming for the drama. Once again, we would like to deeply bow our heads and ask for your apology.”
Meanwhile, KBS’s Lee Kang Hyun EP made an official statement on behalf of the broadcasting company during a press conference on the same day.

He said, “We have not yet received any news that Han Ye Seul will be returning to the drama from America. Since Han Ye Seul is part of the original cast, there is no reason for us to reject her return.”
Lee continued, “However, until we see Han Ye Seul on the set, her return is not certain; thus for the time being, we went ahead and quickly appointed an alternate actress. Even if Han Ye Seul returns, what comes first is that she officially apologizes to her colleagues and drama staff, and promises that a relapse will not occur. Accepting her return will be heavily determined by whether or not next week’s scheduled shootings for episodes 12 and 13 can still be carried on as planned without any disruptions.”
