Novelist Shin Brings Korea to Forefront of World Literature: Critic

Bir eleştirmen, Koreli roman yazarı Shin Kyung-sook'un, edebiyat dünyasında Kore dalgalanmasının başladığını işaret eden dünya okuyucularına, Kore Edebiyatının kapılarını açtığını belirtti.

Hong-Kong merkezli Asya Edebiyatı İncelemesi'nin Başkanı ve Şiir Editörü Martin Alexander Shin ile geçen salı günü, Asya Topluluğu Hong-Kong Merkezinin ev sahipliği yaptığı görüşmede Shin'in Kore Edebiyatını ön sıralara taşıyan büyük bir galip olduğunu söyledi.

South Korean novelist Shin Kyung-sook has opened doors for Korean literature to the world audience, marking the start of the Korean wave in the literary community, a critic has said.

"(Shin is) a great winner who has brought Korea to the forefront of world literature," Martin Alexander, editor in chief and poetry editor for the Hong Kong-based Asia Literary Review, said in a discussion with Shin late Tuesday, which was hosted by the Asia Society Hong Kong Center.

Int'l submissions for Creative Scenarios in Asia contest to be accepted

Asya'daki Yaratıcı Senaryolar Uluslararası Yarışmasına Başvurular Alınacak

Asya Öykücülük Komitesinin açıklamasına göre, Güney Kore Kültür Bakanlığı 8 Mayıs - 6 Temmuz tarihleri arasında 2012 Asya'daki Yaratıcı Senaryolar için açık sergi yarışmasına, pempe dizi, çizgi film, müzikal, oyun ve film olmak üzere toplam beş kategoride başvuru alacak.

Senaryoların, Asya Öykücülük Komitesi tarafınan seçilen 23 Asya efsanesi ve Güney Kore Kültür Bakanlığı tarafından seçilen 100 Asya hikayesi üzerine kurulması gerekecek. Senaryolar Rusça, Korece ya da İngilizce yazıldıktan sonra www.asiastoryroad.com sitesine online olarak eklenecek. Komite, doğrudan ve postayla gönderilen başvuruların kabul edilmeyeceğini söyledi.

South Korea's culture ministry will accept applications for the 2012 Open Exhibition Contest for Creative Scenarios in Asia in the five categories of soap operas, cartoons, musicals, plays and movies from May 8 until July 6, the Asia Storytelling Committee said.

Scenarios should be based on the 23 legends of Asia selected by the Asia Storytelling Committee and the 100 Asian stories selected by the South Korean culture ministry. Scenarios should be written in Korean, Russian or English and be submitted online at www.asiastoryroad.com. Direct and mail-in submissions will not be accepted, the committee said.

Perşembe günü müze, yabancı bir haber ajansı objektifinden Kore'nin modern tarihini içeren bir fotoğraf sergisinin cuma gününden 3 Haziran tarihine kadar Seoul Tarih Müzesi'nin Özel Sergi Salonu'nda düzenleneceğini söyledi.

Fotoğrafların sahibi Associated Press ve fotoğraflar Kore'nin 15 Ağustos 1945 tarihinde Japon sömürgesinden kurtuluşu, üç yıllık Kore Savaşı (1950-1953) ve 19 Nisan 1960 Öğrenci Devrimi de dahil Seoul'deki kargaşanın canlı sahnelerini gösteriyor.

A photo exhibition featuring the modern history of Korea through the lens of a foreign news agency will be held at the Special Exhibition Hall of the Seoul Museum of History from Friday through June 3, the museum said Thursday.

The photos are owned by the Associated Press and show vivid scenes of turbulence in Seoul, including Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule on Aug. 15, 1945, the three-year Korean War (1950-1953) and the April 19, 1960 student revolution.

Busan to host fisheries congress

Busan Su Ürünleri Kongresine Ev Sahipliği Yapacak

Busan, balıkçılık sektöründeki dünyanın en büyük topluluğu olan Dünya Su Ürünleri Kongresi'ne 2016 yılında ev sahipliği yapmak için uluslararası rakip şehirleri yendi.

Çarşamba günü Kore Su Ürünleri Bilimleri Derneği, İskoçya, Edinburgh'daki 2012 Dünya Su Ürünleri Kongresi'nde ülkenin en büyük liman kentinin bir oyla etkinliğe ev sahibi olarak seçildiğini söyledi.

Dernek Başkanı Nam Taek-jeong, "Ev sahipliği, akademik değişim ve teknolojiyi geliştirmek konusundaki ilerlemenin yanı sıra su bilimi ve teknoloji yönündeki durumu artırmak için Kore'ye bir fırsat sağlayacak," dedi.

Kongre, balıkçılık kaynaklarının korunması ve yönetimi konusundaki uluslararası işbirlik üzerine görüşmeler yapacak.

2016'da olacak olan kongre, Haeundae'deki Busan Fuar ve Kongre Merkezi'nde (BEXCO) düzenlenecek.

Busan has beaten rival international cities to host the World Fisheries Congress in 2016, the world’s largest gathering in the fisheries industry.

The Korean Society of Fisheries and Aquatic Science said Wednesday that the nation’s largest port city was picked to host the event through a vote at the 2012 World Fisheries Congress in Edinburgh, Scotland.

“Hosting the congress will provide an opportunity for Korea to boost its status in terms of aquatic science and technology, as well as advance in academic exchanges and enhance technology,” said Nam Taek-jeong, president of the society.

The 2016 congress will hold discussions on international cooperation in the preservation and management of fishery resources.

The 2016 Congress will be held at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO) in Haeundae.

Yesou'da 10 Mayıs 2012 tarihinde fuarın simgelerinden biri olan Big-O'da 2012 Yesou Fuarı arifesinde, gösterimi yapılacak çeşitli etkinlikler için bir prova düzenlendi. Bu fuar, "Okyanusta ve Sahilde Yaşam" teması altında, 12 Mayıstan 12 Ağustosa kadar Seoul'un 455 km güneyinde yer alan Güney Kore'nin liman şehri Yeosu'da gerçekleşiyor. The Education Ministry and the Korean Federation of Teachers' Associations have held a ceremony to mark the 31st annual National Teachers' Day in downtown Seoul.

About 68-hundred teachers on Tuesday received state awards for their devotion and commitment to education.

The federation vowed to launch a campaign to revive schools and realize a true education that builds good character and personality.

The ministry said that it held the ceremony at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts as the 31st Teachers’ Day fell on the 615th anniversary of the birth of King Sejong.
