A Cat And Three Dogs / Kedi ve Üç Köpek
Zamanın birinde, Budist bir keşiş zengin bir evden bağış alıyordu ve dedi ki: “Üç sene içinde bu evde bir talihsizlik olacak.” Zengin adam bunu duyduğunda, önlemek için bir yol sordu. Keşiş, adama 3 köpek yetiştirmesini söyledi. Mesela, biri evin içinde, biri dışarıda ve biri de zemin katta. Bir gece üç yıl sonra ev sakinleri bağırtı duydular. Ertesi sabah dışarı çıktıklarında 3 köpek ve bir kedinin ölü olduğunu gördüler.
Zengin adamın evinde üç nesildir barınan bir kedi vardı. Zengin adamın atalarına hazırlanan sofradaki eti yediği için birgün dayak yedi. Sonuçta, bir gözünü kaybetti ve ortadan kayboldu. Geçmiş üç sene içinde kedi, büyü öğrendi ve intikam almaya geldi. Ancak köpekler tarafından öldürüldü.
Birgün keşiş, zengin bir eve geldi ve bağış istedi. Bağış alıp oradan ayrılırken, sessizce: “Bu evdeki herkes üç sene içinde ölecek.” dedi.
Hizmetçi bunu duydu ve ev sahibine iletti.
“Gidip hemen onu getirin.” dedi ev sahibi.
Keşiş geri getirildi. Adam o zaman dedi ki:
“Dediğini duydum. Bu talihsizliği nasıl önleyeceğimizi anlatmalısın.”
Keşiş: “Kediniz vardı, değil mi?”
Keşiş, kediyi sorunca zengin adam neler olduğunu anlattı.
Zengin adamın büyük büyük babası kediyi besleyen ilk kişiydi. Üç nesildir besleniyordu. Bununla birlikte kedi, zengin adamın ataları için hazırlanan sofradaki eti yerken yakalandı. Bu ölüye saygısızlık olarak görüldü. Zengin adam sinirlendi ve kediyi sopayla dövdü. İstemeyerek kedinin gözünü incitti ve kedi ortadan kayboldu.
“Buralarda bir dükkan var, değil mi?” diye sordu keşiş.
“Evet, var.” diye yanıtladı zengin adam.
“Dükkandaki köpek gelecek ay yavrulayacak. Üç erkek. Hepsini al, evde büyüt. Birini zemin kata, birini zemin katta ve diğerini de evin dışında.” dedi keşiş.
Köpekleri almanın felaketi önleyecek tek yol olduğunu söyleyerek devam etti. Zengin adam sonraki aylarda köpek dükkanına gittiğinde anne köpeğin gerçekten de üç erkek yavru doğurduğunu gördü. Yavruları satın almak istedi. O günlerde insanlar köpek yavrularını para karşılığı satmazlardı. Komşularına bedavadan verirlerdi. Dükkan sahibi: “Ne diyorsun? İstiyorsun madem, al evine götür.”
Zengin adam yavruları aldı, evine götürdü ve onlara iyi baktı.
Üç yıl geçti. Ocak ayının 30’unda herkes yatağındayken, evin dışından gelen şiddetli bir gürültü duydular. Sonra etraf tekrar sessizleşti. Aileler korkudan dışarı çıkıp da ne olduğuna bakamadılar.
Zengin adamdan dayak yedikten sonra gözü yaralanıp kaçan kediydi bu. Geçmiş üç sene içinde bazı büyüler öğrenmiş ve intikam almaya gelmiş. Ancak dışarıda büyütülen köpekle karşılaşmıştı. Dövüşüp köpeği öldürmüş ve dış kapıdan girmişti. Ardından evin içinde büyütülen köpekle karşılaşmış, dövüşüp onu da öldürmüştü. Bunun ardından zemin katta yetiştirilen köpekle karşılaşmış ve onu da öldürmüştü. Ancak aldığı ciddi yaralardan dolayı en sonunda kendisi de ölmüştü. Sabahlayin aile, hepsini de ölü buldu.

Once upon a time, a Buddhist monk was getting a donation from a rich house and said "There will be a misfortune in this house within the next 3 years." When the rich man in the house heard this, he asked him for a way to avoid it. The monk told the man to raise three dogs, i.e. one inside the house, one outside it, and one under the floor. One night 3 years later, people in the house heard a loud noise. When they went out on the next day to find out what happened, they found three dogs and a cat dead.
There had been a cat in the rich man's house which had been raised through three generations. It was beaten one day because it ate meat on a table which had been prepared for a ceremony for the rich man's ancestors. As a result, it lost an eye and disappeared. It had learned magical skills for the past 3 years and came back for revenge. But it was killed by the dogs.
One day, a monk (who collects a donation and plays an instrument) came to a rich house and asked for a donation. While he was leaving after getting a donation, he said quietly,
"Everybody in this house will die within the next 3 years."
A housekeeper heard this and told to the owner of the house about it.
"Fetch him right now!"
The monk was brought back. The man then said,
"I've heard what you said. You must tell me how to avoid the misfortune."
The monk said,
"You used to have a cat, didn't you?"
When the rich man was asked by the monk about the cat, the rich man told him what had happend.
The rich man's great grandfather first began to raise a cat. It was raised through 3 generations. However, one night when the rich man had a ceremony for his ancestors for which food was prepared on a table, the cat was caught eating meat from the table. This was considered insulting for the dead. The rich man got angry and beat it with a stick. He unintentionally hurt one of the cat's eyes, and the cat disappeared.
"There is a shop around here, isn't there?" asked the monk.
"Yes, there is," replied the rich man.
"The dog in the shop will give birth to puppies next month. It will be 3 male puppies. Buy all of them and raise them at home. Keep one of them under the floor, one inside the house, and one outside the house," said the monk.
He went on to say that getting the dogs was the only way to avoid the misfortune. When the rich man visited the shop in the following month, he found out that the dog really did have three male puppies. The rich man said to the shop owner,
"Please sell them to me."
In those days, people didn't sell puppies for money, but gave them away to the neighbours for free. The shop owner said, "What are you saying? Just take them home if you want them."
Thus the rich man took them home and fed them well.
Three years passed. On the 30th of January when everybody was in bed, they heard a loud noise from outside the house. There was silence for a while and then another loud noise from inside the house. It became silent again. The families were afraid and didn't dare to go out to check out what was happening.
It was the cat which had run away from the rich man after the beating that injured its eye. It had learned some magical skills during the past three years, and it was coming back to the house for revenge. But it confronted the dog which had been raised outside the house. It fought and killed that dog and passed the gate. The cat then came across the dog that had been raised inside the house and killed it too. The cat finally met the dog had been raised under the floor and killed it, too. But the cat had several injuries from all the fighting and, as a result, died also. In the morning, the families found them all dead.
