Devletin UHÖ Yayınındaki ”Japon Denizi” Kullanımını Engellemesi
Hükümet bütün siyasi gücünü, Uluslararası Hidrografi Örgütü’nün genel kurulunda Kore’nin doğusundaki sadece Japon Denizi olarak tanınan su kütlesini engellemek için kullanacak.
Üst düzey bir Seoul yetkilisi Güney Kore’nin amacının, UHÖ yayını ”Okyanus ve Denizlerin Sınırları”nın yeni baskısında denizin hem Batı Denizi hem de Japon Denizi olarak tanınması olduğunu söyledi. Kitap, dünyadaki deniz ve okyanusların adları ve sınırlarını kaydediyor.
Görevli, kitabın 1929 yılındaki ilk baskısından beri sadece ”Japon Denizi” olarak kullanılmasının gerçek olduğunu söyledi. Ayrıca, dünya haritalarının yaklaşık %70’inin de su kütlesini Japon Denizi olarak tanıdığını söyledi.
UHÖ’ye üye ülkelerin, Seoul’ün çabalarını takdir ederek, konunun öneminin farkında olduğunu söyledi. Hükümetin, 23 Nisanda Monaco’da başlayacak olan gelecek kurulda, yeni yayında en azından Japon Denizi kullanımını engelleyebileceğini söyledi.

The government will exercise its full diplomatic capacity to prevent the International Hydrographic Organization’s general assembly from solely labeling the body of water east of Korea as the “Sea of Japan.”
A senior Seoul official says South Korea’s aim is to have the sea identified as both the East Sea and the Sea of Japan in the revised edition of the IHO’s publication, the “Limits of Oceans and Seas.” The volume records the designations and boundaries of oceans and seas worldwide.
However, the official said the reality is that only “Sea of Japan” has been used in the book since the first edition was published in 1929. Moreover, the official said over 70 percent of world maps also singularly recognize the body of water as the Sea of Japan.
The official continued that owing to Seoul’s efforts, IHO member nations are aware of the significance of the issue. He said the government is confident it can at least prevent the exclusive use of Sea of Japan in the revised publication during the upcoming assembly which opens in Monaco April 23rd.
