Lilies are skinless flowers that sprout in spring, bloom in summer, and rest in winter. Its growth is highly influenced by temperature and its bulb from autumn does not sprout unless it is influenced by low temperature in winter. When temperatures start to rise in spring, the lower root starts to sprout; and when the stem grows to up to 10 cm in length, the upper root that is closer to the surface sprouts and grows until April. As the upper root plays a major role in absorbing nutrients and water, it must be kept in high quality for good growth. Preferable temperatures for the growth of upper root are 12~13℃, which is lower than the temperature of the surface. It is good to maintain the temperature around 18℃ after the roots are laid. As the flower stalk growth, the bulbs start to form new bulbs for the following year. The growing point in new bulbs separate the flower bud and leaves during growth or recess (or storage) and become the flower buds at the time of sprouting. The nutrients in the bulbs are used to grow roots and sprouts. The bulbs gradually shrink and become lightest when flower buds start to bloom. Then they expand up to ⅓ of its original size until full blooming and rapidly grow until two months after full blooming to enter the resting stage.
Chunyang Tree(Red Pine Tree)
This tree is named Chunyang because it is usually found in Chunyang. It grows in a particular climate of Chunyang and the adjacent areas. It became more popular after Chunyang station became the main distributing center of wood. Its wood is known as the best in Korea because it's hard and grows straight. Its growth is three times slower than other ordinary pine trees. It's red in the center of the stem and rarely distorted. Almost all houses of the royal palace of the Lee Dynasty are made of this wood and recently it was used for repairing famous temples and ancient palaces. It is the best for the Korean traditional houses. You can say that this is the best wood in Korea.
