Jin Soo Kim (doğum 1950), muhacirlerin kültürel kimliklerini araştırdığı ve bu konuda uğraş verdiği için Güney Koreli bir çoklu ortam sanatçısı olarak bilinir. Kim 1974 yılında Seoul Ulusal Üniversitesi’nden dereceyle mezun olmuştur daha sonra 1983 yılında Chicago Sanat Enstitüsünde yüksek lisansını tamamlamıştır. Mezun olduğu okulda 1990 yılından itibaren profesörlük yapmaktadır. Popüler stillerden büyük ölçüde farklılık gösterdiğinden dolayı onun sanatları 1980 yılından beri sergilenmiyor. Kim, Chicago’da Chicago Kültür Merkezinde ve Çağdaş Sanat Müzesinde sanatlarını sergilemeye başladı. En iyi bilinen çalışmalarından Stratiformis sanat eserlerinden Catalano Meydanı ve Milwaukee 1996 yılında tamamlanmıştır. Yapılan kapsamlı işlerden biri parçalara ayrılmış örgü makinelerinin yerel işgücü tarihini göstermesidir. Kim aynı zamanda bedeni ve gölgesi ile tanınıyor, endüstrileşme öncesi Kore toplumu ve Batı tüketiciliği arasındaki gerilime bağlı olarak makine tekstilini el yapımı işleri şeklinde değiştirmiştir.

Jin Soo Kim (born 1950) is a South Korean multimedia artist known for her work exploring immigrant cultural identity and labor. She earned her bachelor's degree from Seoul National University in 1974, then an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1983. Since 1990, she has been a professor at her alma mater. Though her art was not exhibited widely in the 1980s because it differed so widely from the popular styles, she began exhibiting at the Chicago Cultural Center and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. Kim then began to exhibit commercially. One of her best known works is Stratiformis, a piece of public art in Catalano Square, Milwaukee, completed in 1996. A large work that uses disassembled knitting machines, it signifies the local labor history of the area. She is also known for her Body and Shadow, which re-purposes machine made textiles into a work made by hand, representing the tension between pre-industrial Korean society and Western consumerism.

Kim Jung Gi Gyeonggi Eyaletinin Goyang Şehrinde 1975 yılında doğmuş Koreli bir sanatçıdır. 19 yaşında güzel sanatlar okuluna girmiş ve "Sanat ve Tasarım" alanında eğitim görmüştür. 3 yıl boyunca teknik dersleri görmek amacıyla Busan'ın batı kıyısında bulunan ünlü Dong-Eui Üniversitesi'nde okumuştur. Üniversitede ki diğer 23.000 öğrenci için ilham kaynağı olmuş ve güzel bir örnek oluşturmuştur. O da Korede ki her erkek gibi araç ve silahlar üzerindeki deneyimini attırmak açısından özel kuvvetler bölümünde 2 yıl askeri görev yapmıştır.

KIM Jung Gi is a korean artist born in 1975 in Goyang-Si in the province of Kyongki-Do (South Korea). At 19, he entered the Fine Arts School and majored in “Art & Design”. During 3 years, he studied on the west coast at the Dong-Eui university of Busan which is famous for its technical courses. 23 000 fellow students may also have given him some nice material to start with as a source of inspiration ! As every man in Korea he also served in the army during more than 2 years, in the special forces section, which allowed him to memorize an amazing number of vehicules and weapons.

Julia Moon 1963 yılında Hoon Sook Park olarak Washington'da doğdu. Güney Kore’nin başkenti Seoul’de yaşayan fotoğraf sanatçısı Jun Ahn, dünyanın en yüksek binalarının tepelerinde fotoğraflar çekiyor. New York’tan Hong Kong’a birçok yüksek binanın çatılarında ve teraslarında çalışmaları olan Jun’un fotoğraflarındaki model de aslında kendisi. Aslında cesur bir insan olmadığını da belirten Jun için bu proje korkuyu yenmenin bir yolu olarak ortaya çıkmış.
Projeye ilk olarak 2008’de başlayan Jun, 14 gökdelen ve apartman dolaşmış.

In some of the South Korean artist's daring photographs, viewers are afforded stomach-churning vertical views of her feet dangling hundreds of feet above the bustling city streets of Seoul, Hong Kong and New York below, or longer shots of her balanced precariously on tower-block parapets. She isn't a brave a person but Jun Ahn wants to overcome fear so she began this project in 2008. Jun Ahn walked 14 skyscrapers and apartment up to this time.

Kim Jeong-hui, (김정희, 1786'da 6. kameri ayının 3. gününde doğmuş,
1856'da 10. kameri ayının 10. gününde ölmüştür) hat sanatının en ünlü uygulayıcılarından, epigrafist ve Kore'nin Joseon dönemi sonrası bilginlerindendir. O, Gyeongju Kim kabilesinin bir üyesiydi. Çeşitli kalem-isimleri kullanmaktaydı: Wandang, Chusa, Yedang, Siam, Gwapa, Nogwa gibi (200 isimden bazıları). Özellikle Kore epigrafi sanatı ile ünlüdür ve eski Kore ile Çin kitabe çalışmalarından ilham alarak “Chusa-che” (Chusa yazı stili)' yi oluşturmuştur. Kim Jeong-hui (김정희, born on the 3rd day of the 6th lunar month 1786, died on the 10th day of the 10th lunar month 1856) was one of the most celebrated practitioners of calligraphy, epigraphists and scholars of Korea’s later Joseon period. He was a member of the Gyeongju Kim clan. He used various Ho pen-names: Wandang , Chusa , Yedang , Siam, Gwapa, Nogwa etc. (some 200 in all). He is especially celebrated for having transformed Korean epigraphy and for having created the “Chusa-che” (Chusa writing style) inspired by his study of ancient Korean and Chinese epitaphs. His ink paintings, especially of orchids, are equally admired. As a scholar, he belonged to the Silhak (Practical Learning) school also known as the Bukhak (Northern Learning).

Kim Duk Soo 1952'de doğmuştur. Babası tarafından müziğe yönlendirilmiştir.

Beş yaşında iken yaptığı bir performans başkan tarafından çok beğenildi ve takdir edildi. Böylece kariyerine başlamış oldu. Geleneksel Kore müzik okulundan mezun olmuş ve ardından Seoul'da bir sanat okuluna devam etmiştir. Fakülteye de bir yıl devam etmiştir. Çok yetenekli olan Kim Duk Soo alanında pek çok üretim yapmıştır. Ayrıca dans ve tiyatro ile ilgili de çalışmaları vardır.

1978'de sanatçının yaşamı SamulNori ile yeni bir boyut kazandı ve bir grup oluşturdu. The term "Samulnori" describes a traditional Korean percussion quartet comprising a "kwoenggwari" (small gong), "janggu" (double-headed drum), "buk" (drum) and "jing" (large gong). The Kwoenggwari is a small percussion instrument, which can produce the fastest and highest-pitched sounds; the janggu produces fascinating sounds in harmony with the kwoenggwaril; the buk serves as a harmonizer of all sounds in the quartet; and the jing’s sounds can be compared with the sound of the wind because of their long reverberations. These four traditional instruments constitute samulnori, which embodies the lively spirit of the Korean people. In Korea, the art of samulnori is led by Master Kim Duk-soo (52), a neatly moustached man with a stately appearance.

Bringing traditional Korean art into the spotlight

It is not appropriate to describe Kim Duk-soo simply as an artist of traditional Korean music, which has a diversity of roots from different genres. He is "an artist who always makes artistic endeavors for the expression of ideas." Amid the inundation of Western culture, Kim seeks to find modern Korean music’s identity through reinterpretating and experimenting with traditional art.

Previously, Master Yun Isang contributed greatly to the preservation of traditional Korean music in his adopted country of Germany when he was still alive, and Master Hwang Byung-ki has been searching for ways to globalize the traditional music of the gayageum (an instrument with 12 strings). But it was in 1978 when samulnori began to captivate the hearts of listeners as a serious performing art. Prior to that, samulnori instruments were only played by farmers out in the countryside. The emergence of samulnori as a well-established art widened the horizons of traditional Korean music, bringing it into the spotlight as part of the world music scene. Kim Duk-soo has played a pivotal role in introducing to the world a brighter side of the Korean people through salmulnori, not as a nation that always grieves over its past but as one that loves sprightly farmers' music, featuring vivacious shoulder and head movements of the performers.

Western music still dominates all genres in the Korean art community. Traditional music CDs are usually pushed to the back shelves in record stores, and television and radio tend to belittle and neglect traditional arts. Although Kim has gained recognition as a maestro, at times he still feels insecure as an artist in his own country because some people tend to regard him simply as the leader of an art troupe. But others take pride in Korea having such a prominent musician, saying he is truly a distinguished musician in the nation and possessing a broad musical insight.

Born as a future Namsadang member

When he was 5 years old, Kim’s father took him to Jochiwon, South Chungcheong Province despite his mother's protests. Even before he was even born, Kim’s father, Kim Mun-hak, who was a prominent member of the famous Namsadang (wayfaring male entertainers) troupe, had promised "to train his next child, if a son, as a child member of his Namsadang troupe, to perform on an adult's shoulders." A gifted and courageous child, Kim Duk-soo learned to play the janggu and won a presidential award at a national farm band contest just two years after he joined the Namsadang troupe, earning the title of “child prodigy” in janggu playing.

As the popularity of Namsadang sharply declined, the talented child Kim Duk-soo had to work as a “boy wonder” for teams of salesmen on tours promoting Korean products or with medicine peddlers crisscrossing the country. He was referred to as the “child janggu player” at the 8th U.S. Army base and even played drums for the "Baby Show Company," a production which was very popular at the time. Because of his busy performance schedule, Kim often skipped classes at school, but fortunately managed to find admittance to the Seoul Traditional Art School, thanks to the art school's headmaster Park Bong-hun, who regarded Kim's talent very highly. In this way, Kim finished his Namsadang career and his hard life as a wayfaring troupe member.

Blessed with good teachers and busy schedules

Right after he entered school, Kim Duk-soo drew much attention. He even skipped classes without notice when the famous stand-up comedy duo Chang So-pal and Koh Chun-ja, who rode high in nationwide popularity at the time, asked him to perform with them in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, promising a generous reward. Since then, Kim became the only student who was paid by the school and lived in the school compound, made possible only because his teachers recognized his extraordinary talent. Since the age of 5, Kim had received much attention from his warmhearted teachers, who nurtured him into a promising future leader of traditional music. After finishing his six-year secondary education at the Seoul Traditional Art School, Kim was enrolled in the Department of Ceramic Engineering at Dankook University as a scholarship student. Although he wanted to be diligent and studious, he hardly found time to study as he was much too preoccupied with his activities at the Folk Singing & Dancing Art Company and the Little Angels Art Company.

At that time, he was already dreaming of becoming a top-notch artist. It was hard for him to stay in one single genre because of the Namsadang spirit which he had acquired while young, the broad artistic knowledge that he learned from his teachers, and the profound expertise in planning, production and advertising that he gained through numerous performances.

Birth of Samulnori, its beats and rhythms

Even when Kim was serving in the army, he was permitted to perform overseas in order to boost Korea’s worldwide prestige. He was discharged from the army while he was on tour abroad. At the age of 22, he became the director of the Folk Singing & Dancing Art Company.

After a decade of performing, he came to question his competence in carrying on the spirit of Namsadang which he had inherited. After long deliberation, he joined together with his associate Kim Yong-bae to found the best samulnori troupe of that time. He was completely engrossed with practicing in order to become the best samulnori artist. He ate only ramen noodles, and often fell asleep while practicing, only to resume practicing as soon as he woke up. In the course of his tenacious efforts, he repeatedly experienced mysterious moments when the sounds of all the instruments blended together in perfect harmony. His samulnori troupe, which consisted of inheritors of the Namsadang art, proved its prominence at the World Percussionists Contest held in Dallas, U.S.A. in 1983. Some 3,000 world-class percussionists showed off their talent at the contest. But Kim’s samulnori troupe was requested to perform encores more than 10 times, and after the contest the troupe went on to tour across the United States.

Until the day the entire world likes samulnori

While Kim made a monetary fortune by giving samulnori performances, he has never spent more than he needed. He says he does not really know how to save money, because he always searches for ways to reinvest even single pennies into promoting traditional music.

His artisanship and professionalism have bloomed under the warm care of his supportive wife, who is Korean-Japanese. Before he met her, Kim Duk-soo led a celibate life only playing the janggu around the clock every single day. His wife helped him take a new look at his own life. Embodying the joy of life in his tunes and melodies, Kim displays strong enthusiasm and passion for music in each of his performances. He has fulfilled his promise that he made when he founded his samulnori troupe that his samulnori performances would reach out to the entire world.

Kim’s samulnori troupe was started as a small group of four members, but has grown to a large samulnori orchestra named "Hanullim" comprising some 20 performers. He still enjoys giving lectures at foreign colleges, usually starting his lectures by showing students where Korea is situated on the world map. Kim wants to help foreigners learn about the spirit of Korea, which he tries to represent in his samulnori performances.

Samulnori is not a kind of music that the audience is supposed to simply listen to. Without learning to play samulnori instruments, it is impossible to understand more than the smallest fraction of this genre. Kim Duk-soo may not live to see his dream come true: that all Korean people and people all over the world learn to play samulnori instruments. Until then, Kim is determined to continue his hardworking life as an artist, stage director and CEO.

Ünlü bir Koreli ressamdır. Kore'de sanatın öncüsü olarak anılır. Gemi sahibi, zengin bir babanın oğlu olduğu için eğitimini Japonya'da görür. Üniversitede 2. yılındayken soyut resim sanatını tanıtır. Japonya'daki, çarpık sanatın içinde erkenden kendini gösterir. 1936 yılında Tokyo'daki Kiikokuoku Galerisi mezuniyetinin olduğu yılda açtığı ilk sergisidir.
Kore'ye döndüğünde (1937) ilk özgürlük sergisini açar. Japonya için soyut resim sergisini organize eder. 1945 yılında, Kore de bağımsızlık oldu ve bu sayede çağdaş geliştirilmiş sanatın öncüsü oldu. 1956'da ise Paris'e gitti ve 3 kültürü daha çalıştı. 1963'te Kore'ye döndü ve yönetimde de etkin rol aldı. 1992'de ise adına Hwangi Müzesi açıldı.

Life

Kim Hwan-gi (1913 February 27 – 1974 July 25) was a pioneer and leading abstract artist of South Korea. Kim Whanki was born in 1913 as the son of a wealthy shipowner in Eupdong-ri, Anjwa-myeon, Sinan County, South Jeolla Province, South Korea. He got secondary school education and entered an art department of the Nihon university in Japan.

1940 yılında Seoul'de (Güney Kore) doğan Sung Kim çocukluk yıllarında sanatsal yeteneklerini erkenden sergilemeye başlamıştır. Okulda girdiği ve kazandığı çeşitli sanat yarışmalarıyla aldığı dereceler ile, yaratıcılığı ve sanatsal hayal gücünü göstermiştir. Sanat için tutkusunu devam ettirme kararı almıştır ve Seoul Seorabol Sanat Fakültesinden şeref derecesiyle mezun olmuştur. Daha sonra kendi sanat stüdyosunu açmış ve birçok magazin ve çocuk kitaplarında illustratör olarak çalışmıştır. Son 20 yıl boyunca çeşitli güzel sanat galerileriyle çalışmış ve 400'ün üzerinde orjinal manzara resmini üretmiştir. Birçok galeri tarafından temsil edilmiş, dünyanın her yerinden insanlar onun resimlerini satın almaktadır.

Born in 1940 in Seoul, South Korea, Sung began to exhibit his artistic talents early in childhood. Beginning in grade school, Sung entered and won various art contests by displaying his creativity and artistic imagination. He decided to pursue his passion for art and graduated with honors from Seorabol Art College in Seoul. Later he opened his own studio and worked as an illustrator for various magazines and children’s books. Sung’s artistic abilities were acknowledged when he was awarded the Grand Prize in an art competition by the Minister of Culture in South Korea and the Gold Medal prize in the art competition given by the Mayor of Seoul. He traveled throughout Europe before immigrating to the United States in 1980. For the last 20 years, Sung has worked with various fine art galleries and has produced over 400 original landscape paintings.

Dr. Shin Sang-Ho (1947 doğumlu), dünya çapında bilinen birçok müzede eserleri bulunan uluslararası Kore seramikçisidir. Seoul da College of Fine Arts at Hong-ik Seul Üniversitesinde dekanlık yapmıştır.
Bugün yaşayan birçok büyük Kore seramikçileri 20. yüzyılın ortalarında Güney Kore hükümet programında Goryeo ya da Koryo Hanedanının, Kore seramik sanatı Pinnacles ve antik Kore Celadon seramik sırlarını yeniden keşfetmek için yapılmıştır. Hong-ik Seul Üniversitesi'nden mezun olduktan sonra, geleneksel mavi-yeşil seladonların yanı sıra punch'ong (buncheong) kum taşları ile yeniden kariyerine başladı. Özellikle misafir profesör olarak Afrika sanatının Kraliyet Sanat Akademisi (1995-1997)ve Londra da kısa bir süre kaldıktan sonra, ilk yıllarda geleneksel çalışmaları, hem de eritme stili ile aniden farklı bir doğu ve batı tasarımıyla Kore'ye geri döndü.
"Dream" serisi (1995) uluslararası tanınma ve Asya geleneksel erimiş damar şekili ve Asya hat ya da Sumi-e (fırça) resimlerinde anımsatan soyut desenleri ile dekore punch'ong sırlarını elde etmek için yaptığı ilk sergilerden birincisiydi.

Dr. Shin Sang-Ho (born 1947) is an internationally-known Korean ceramicist whose works can be found in many museums around the world. He is the former Dean, College of Fine Arts at Hong-ik University in Seoul, Korea.
Many of the living great Korean ceramicists of today resulted from the South Korean government's program in the mid-20th century to rediscover the secrets of ancient Korean celadon ceramics from the Goryeo or Koryo Dynasty, one of the pinnacles of Korean ceramic arts. After graduating from Hong-ik University in Seoul, Shin began his career by recreating this traditional blue-green celadon as well as punch'ong (buncheong) stoneware. After a brief sojourn in London as a visiting professor at the Royal Academy of Art (1995–1997) where he was exposed particularly to African art, he returned to Korea with an abruptly different style from the traditional work of his early years, fusing both western and eastern design in his work. The "Dream" series (1995) was one of his first exhibits to gain international recognition, and fused traditional Asian vessel shapes and punch'ong glazes decorated with abstract patterns reminiscent of Asian calligraphy or sumi-e (brush) paintings.
