Introduction
It was about 500 years ago when people first settled in Oeam Village. The landscape is a combination of towering jangseung (village guardian totem poles), sotdae (wooden poles with a carved bird on top), thatch-roofed houses and hanok buildings. This rural village is a place where visitors can experience traditional customs and participate in hands-on programs.

Formed when the Yi family from Yean settled here, the village is nestled at the base of Gwangdeoksan and Seolhwasan Mountains. Once a simple farming village, Oeam has now become a cultural village offering various programs and activities to both locals and tourists. Many of the buildings are thatch-roofed houses, and the traditional technique of thatching has passed down in the village until today.

About 20 houses now function as accommodation facilities with capacities ranging from 5 to 15 guests, depending on the size of the hanok. The village has a 6.5-kilometer stone wall that incorporated rocks removed from earth when the village was being formed. Persimmon and ginkgo trees can be found all around the village. There is also an old zelkova tree that’s about 600 years old. Because of its outstanding value, the village was designated as Important Folklore Cultural Heritage No. 236.

30 hands-on programs are available for visitors interested in experiencing folk cultures. Programs vary by season and month, so consult the schedule before your visit.
This was the former location of Ecole Francaise de Seoul, a French school for the France residents who resided here in 1985. There are about 1,000 French citizens residing in Korea (as of 2008 statistics) and about half of them are living in this area. Thus, Seorae Village naturally became a global village much thanks to the strong presence of French citizens in this area. Furthermore, situated geographically near Gangnam and the central business district area, along with natural sites including Yangjae stream and Hangang River Park, makes it a pleasant environment space for all.

Every morning, long lines of cyclists with their bikes can be seen waiting in front of the bakery to buy the freshly baked baguettes. The traditional French bakery makes bread from ingredients that are directly imported from France and thus been a favorite to any French residents living in Korea.

The shops in Seorae Village shops are modest and charming. The street is lined with shops and small restaurants, seeming to have been lifted straight out of Europe. In recent year, Seorae Village has undergone several changes. In every other street found here, a luxurious café and wine bar can be found and if you like to enjoy your meal outdoors, several cafes or restaurants with balcony seats are also available. This is currently one of the most popular areas among the locals and it has a nickname of 'Little France'.
Past the Banpo Bridge of Sapyeong-ro road and Palace Hotel along Seorae-ro road and you can see a cluster of luxurious villas.

The German Village was built for Korean residents who returned from living in Germany. Many Korean lived in Germany where they earned foreign currency during the modernization of Korea in the 1960's. The area is now a unique tourism spot related to German culture. Since 2001, the area of Mulgeon-ri, Samdong-myeon, Namhae-gun, where the Windbreak Forest (Natural Monument No. 150) is located, 3 billion won ($2 million USD) worth of development by Namhae-gun and eventually the area was able to establish almost 70 buildings throughout the area spanning over 99,174m2 (30,000 pyeong).

Korean residents in Germany directly imported materials from Germany to build German-style houses. When residents are not living in the house while in Germany, the houses are used as tourist houses.

Also nearby is the Windbreak Forest and one of the most beautiful coastal drives in Korea, the Mulmi Coastal Road.
