The Minjoo Party of Korea[ (Hangul: 더불어민주당; hanja: 더불어民主黨; RR: Deobureo Minjudang; lit. Together Democratic Party; short form 더민주, Deominju, "Minjoo"), formerly the New Politics Alliance for Democracy (NPAD), is a social liberal political party in South Korea. It was founded on 26 March 2014 as a merger of the Democratic Party and the preparatory committee of the New Political Vision Party (NPVP). The former Democratic Party was legally absorbed into the NPAD after the latter's creation, while the preparatory committee of the NPVP was dissolved, with members who supported the merger joining the NPAD individually.
Formation and Ahn–Kim chairmanship (March–July 2014)
The Minjoo Party was formed as the New Politics Alliance for Democracy (새정치민주연합 Saejeongchi Minju Yeonhap) on 26 March 2014 after the independent faction led by Ahn Cheol-soo, then in the process of forming a party called the New Political Vision Party, merged with the main opposition Democratic Party, led by Kim Han-gil. Ahn and Kim became joint leaders of the new party. The party performed poorly in by-elections that July, however, and both leaders stepped down, having served for three months. Leadership of the party was assumed by an emergency committee.

Ahn–Moon controversy and split (2015–16)
The next year, at a party convention on February 7, Moon Jae-in was elected the new chairman of the party. Moon, who had previously served as chief of staff for former president Roh Moo-hyun, was the leader of the party's "pro-Roh" faction, which was opposed to Ahn and Kim. Moon came under fire for imposing a "pro-Roh hegemony" in the party, as Ahn and Kim were jeered and harassed at a memorial service for Roh held in May 2015.
The party hemorrhaged support as the factional conflict intensified, falling from around 40 to 30 percent in opinion polls. A survey conducted on November 12–14 showed that supporters of the party wanted Ahn and Seoul mayor Park Won-soon to assume the leadership alongside Moon. On November 29, Ahn rejected a proposal from Moon to establish a joint leadership, and the next month he presented Moon with an ultimatum, demanding that he call a convention to elect a new party leader. Moon rejected the demand, and Ahn left the party.
Ahn was followed by a number of supportive NPAD assembly members, including his former co-leader Kim Han-gil, and the group began preparations to form a new party. On January 12, Kwon Rho-kap, a former aide of President Kim Dae-jung and a popular figure in the party's traditional stronghold of Honam, also exited the party, similarly citing Moon's "pro-Roh hegemony". Meanwhile, Ahn and Kim merged their group with that of another defector from the NPAD, Chun Jung-bae, to form the People's Party.
Following the defections, the NPAD was renamed the Minjoo Party of Korea, and Moon resigned on 27 January 2016. Moon handed power to Kim Chong-in, an academic and former assemblyman who had more recently served as economic advisor to conservative President Park Geun-hye. Kim was seen as an unexpected choice, as he had previously worked for the right-wing Chun Doo-hwan and Roh Tae-woo administrations in the 1980s, serving as an assembly member for the ruling Democratic Justice Party and as health and welfare minister under Roh.

Under Kim Chong-in (2016–present)
Kim Chong-in viewed the pro–Roh Moo-hyun faction and what he considered the extremist wing of the party as responsible for the party's troubles, and pledged to diminish their influence. In the lead-up to the 2016 parliamentary election he moved against key members of the pro-Roh faction in the nominations process, deselecting Lee Hae-chan, who had been Prime Minister under Roh and was now chairman of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation. Lee left the party in response. Kim's moves proved controversial, and many of his nominations for the party's proportional representation list were rejected by the rest of the party leadership, while favored candidates of Moon were ranked near the top of the approved list. Kim offered to resign in March, but decided to stay on as leader after a personal visit from Moon. Kim affirmed that he would continue to attempt to change the party's image, stating that the events had shown the party was "still unable to move on from its old ways".
Though losing votes to the People's Party formed by Ahn, Chun and Kim Han-gil—particularly in Honam—the party emerged as the overall winner of the election, garnering a plurality of seats in the National Assembly with a margin of one seat over the Saenuri Party. Lee Hae-chan returned to the Assembly as an independent representing Sejong City. Following its election victory, Kim Chong-in announced that the Minjoo Party would change its emphasis from welfare to economic growth and structural reform. Kim stated that the party would also change its position to support the establishment of for-profit hospitals, in contrast to the party's earlier opposition to the policy.

Sol görüşe mensup Merkeziyetçi Reformcu Demokrat Parti'den gelen Kim Dae-jung'ın devlet başkanı seçilmesinden üç ay sonra, partinin yönetim rolü sona ererek on yıl sürecek muhalefet saflarında ilk dönem böylece başlamış oluyor. İlerleme Birleşme Partisi, Ekim 2012'de Saenuri Partisi saflarına katıldı.

2000 yılındaki milletvekili seçimlerinden sonra 271 sandalyeden 147'sine karşılık gelen %54'lük oyu tek başına alan parti haline gelmiştir. Devlet Başkanı Roh Moo-hyun'ın görevi kötüye kullanma suçlamasının ardından 2004 seçimlerinde bozguna uğrayan parti 299 sandalyeden sadece 121'ini elinde tutabilmiştir. The defeat reflected public disapproval of the impeachment which was instigated by the party.

Acil Durum Komisyonu
Hong Jun-pyo liderliğindeki sistem 9 Aralık 2011'de beklentilere yanıt vermeyince Park Geun-hye başkanlığındaki Büyük Ulusal Parti Acil Durum Komisyonu, 17 Aralık 2011'de faaliyete geçerek 11 Nisan'daki 2012 Milletvekili Seçimi ile 19 Aralık'taki 2012 Başkanlık Seçimi öncesi hazırlıklar yaptı.

Komisyon üyeleri arasında Büyük Ulusal Parti'nin muhafazakar parti çizgisinden dönüşüme uğrayıp uğramayacağı konusunda görüş ayrılıkları olsa da Park, partinin çizgisinden asla sapmayacağını ve muhafazakarlığın gerçek değerini koruyacağını söylemiştir.

POLİTİKA
Büyük Ulusal Parti, serbest ticareti ve neoliberalist ekonomik politakaları desteklemektedir. Parti, Güney Kore'nin Kuzey Kore'den uzaklaşmasını ve Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ile güçlü bağların olması gerektiği görüşünü savunmaktadır. Sosyal konularda da muhafazakar tavrını sürdüren parti, son seçimde başkanın homoseksüelliği "anormallik" olarak adlandırıp eşcinsel birlikteliğin karşısında olduğunu göstermiştir.

Dört Büyük Nehir Projesi
Büyük Ulusal Parti'nin önemli politikalarından birisi de Devlet Başkanı Lee Myung-bak'ın göreve geldiği andan itibaren Dört Büyük Nehir Projesi'nin finansal açıdan güvence altına alınmasıydı. Projenin bütçesi tartışmaları Ulusal Meclis'te üç dönem boyunca çekişmeli siyasi hamlelere sebep olmuştur.

Sejong Şehri Projesi
Büyük Ulusal Parti, önceki yönetimden farklı olarak Sejong Şehri adında Güney Kore için yeni bir başkent yaratılması konusunda fazla eğilim göstermemektedir. 2012 yılı itibariyle Saenuri Partisi, tamamı olmasa da bazı devlet kurumlarının bu yeni şehre taşınacağı sinyallerini vermiştir.

İnsan Hakları Aktivizmi
Saenuri, mahkumlara uygulanan işkenceleri, halka açık infazları ve Kuzey Kore'de uygulanan diğer insan hakları ihlallerine karşı resmi kınama yayınlayarak Kuzey Kore İnsan Hakları Yasası'nın desteklenmesinde son derece aktif bir rol oynamaktadır. Saenuri temsilcisi ve aynı zamanda Kuzey Kore'ye yayın yapan Açık Radyo'nun kurucusu Ha Tae-kyung, bir sivil toplum kuruluşunun desteğiyle hükümetin izolasyon politikası uygulaması sonucu az sayıdaki Kuzey Kore vatandaşlarına radyo aracılığıyla demokrasi hakkında haber ve bilgi vermektedir. Aralık 2012'de Saenuri üyesi Cho Myung-Chul, Ulusal Meclis'e seçilen ilk Kuzey Koreli ilticacı olmuştur. 2012 baharında birkaç Saenuri temsilcisi "Arkadaşımı kurtar" protestolarında rol alarak, Kuzey Koreli ilticacıların ülkelerine iade edilmesi ve Park Sun-young'ın açlık greviyle dayanışmalarını ifade eden Çin'in politikasına karşı organize olmuşlardır.
Bu olay nedeniyle birçok Güney Koreli politikacı, akademisyen ve halk grupları mevcut talimatkâr politikalara karşı olduklarını ifade etti. The party was renamed in 1993, during the presidency of Kim Young-sam, with the merger of other parties to form the Democratic Liberal Party (Minju Jayudang). It was renamed as the New Korea Party (Sinhangukdang) in 1995, and it finally became the Grand National Party in November 1997 following its merger with the smaller Democratic Party, and various conservative parties. Three months later, with the election of Kim Dae-jung of the leftwing Centrist Reformists Democratic Party, as president, the party's governing role came to an end, beginning its first ever period in opposition which would last ten years. In October 2012 the Advancement Unification Party merged with the Saenuri Party.

Following the 2000 parliamentary elections it was the single largest political party, with 54% of the vote and 147 seats out of 271. The party was defeated in the parliamentary election in 2004 following the impeachment of President Roh Moo-hyun, gaining only 121 seats out of 299. The defeat reflected public disapproval of the impeachment which was instigated by the party. It was the first time in its history that the party had not won the most seats. It gained back five seats in by-elections, bringing it to 127 seats as of October 28, 2005.

Current Status
On December 19, 2007, the GNP's candidate Lee Myung-bak won the presidential election ending the party's period in opposition.

In the April 2008 general election, the GNP secured a majority of 153 seats out of 299 and gained power in the administration and the parliament as well as most local governments.

One of the main bases of popular support of the party originates from the conservative, traditionalist elite and the rural population, except for farmers. It is strongest in the Gyeongsang region. Former party head and 2007 presidential candidate Park Geun-hye is the daughter of former President Park Chung-hee who ruled from 1961 to 1979. Although Representative Won Hee-ryeong and Hong Jun-pyo ran for the party primary as reformist candidates, former Seoul mayor and official presidential candidate Lee Myung-bak gained more support (about 40%) from the Korean public.

The GNP suffered a setback in the 2010 local elections, losing a total of 775 local seats throughout the counties, but remained as the most seats in the region.
The DDoS attacks during the October 2011 by-election have become a central concern of the GNP as it could potentially disintegrate the party leadership.
The Hong Jun-pyo leadership system collapsed on December 9, 2011 and GNP Emergency Response Commission was launched on December 17, 2011, with Park Geun-hye as commission chairperson, to prepare coming up Legislative Election 2012 on April 11, 2012 and Presidential Election 2012 on December 19, 2012.

There was a debate with Commission members about whether to transform the Grand National Party into a non-conservative political party or not, but Park said the GNP would never become non-conservative, and will follow the real value of conservatism.

POLICY
The GNP supports free trade and neoliberal economic policies. The GNP favors maintaining strong ties with the United States while distancing South Korea from North Korea. The party is also conservative on social issues; in the last election the president called homosexuality "abnormal" and opposed any legal recognition of same-sex couples.

Four Major Rivers Project
One of the GNP's important policies is to financially secure the The Four Major Rivers Project since President Lee Myung-bak is in the office. This project's budget disputes have sparked controversial political motions in the National Assembly for three consecutive years.

Sejong City Project
The GNP has been less inclined toward the creation of a new capital city for South Korea, to be called Sejong City than the previous administration. As of 2012, the Saenuri Party has indicated some governmental offices will relocated to the new city, but not all.

Human Rights Activism
Saenuri has been very active in promoting the North Korean Human Rights Law, which would officially condemn the use of torture, public executions and other human rights violations in North Korea. Saenuri representative Ha Tae Kyung is the founder of Open Radio for North Korea, an NGO dedicated to spreading news and information about democracy, which citizens of North Korea have little access to due to the government's isolationist policies. In April 2012, Saenuri member Cho Myung-Chul became the first North Korean defector elected to the National Assembly. In spring 2012, several Saenuri representatives took part in the "Save my friend" protests, organized to oppose China's policy of repatriating North Korean defectors, and expressed their solidarity with Park Sun-young's hunger strike.
It had caused legislative violence before. This process of passing the budget bill sparked controversy of potential illegality. Due to this incident, many South Korean political, academic and citizen groups expressed their outrage against current mainstream politics. The reason for forceful passing of the bill is mainly due to the budget disputes in the controversial Four Major Rivers Project.

Many Buddhists in South Korea criticized the budget bill on December 8, 2010 for neglecting the national Temple Stay program. This has led the Jogye Order, the largest Buddhist order in South Korea, to sever ties with the GNP and becoming financially independent without any funding from the government.

TARİHİ
Parti 1997 yılında eski birkaç partinin bir araya gelmesiyle kurulmuştur. Parti'nin kökeni 1963 yılında Park Chung-hee'nin yönetimindeki Demokratik Cumhuriyetçi Parti'ye dayanmaktadır. Park'ın ölümü üzerine 1980'de Chun Doo-hwan yönetiminin başlangıcında yeni bir oluşuma girerek Demoktratik Adalet Partisi adını almıştır. 1988 yılında parti üyesi Roh Tae-woo, doğrudan Başkanlık seçimi ve yeni anayasa gibi politik reformları başlatmıştır. 1993 yılında, Kim Young-sam'ın başkanlığında partinin adı, diğer partilerin birleşimiyle Demoktratik Liberal Parti (Minju Jayudang) olarak değişmiştir. 1995'te Yeni Kore Partisi (Sinhangukdang) olarak isim değişikliğine giden parti, Demokrat Parti ve birçok muhafazakar partinin birleşmesiyle 1997 yılının kasım ayında Büyük Ulusal Parti ismiyle son halini almıştır. Sol görüşe mensup Merkeziyetçi Reformcu Demokrat Parti'den gelen Kim Dae-jung'ın devlet başkanı seçilmesinden üç ay sonra, partinin yönetim rolü sona ererek on yıl sürecek muhalefet saflarında ilk dönem böylece başlamış oluyor. İlerleme Birleşme Partisi, Ekim 2012'de Saenuri Partisi saflarına katıldı.

2000 yılındaki milletvekili seçimlerinden sonra 271 sandalyeden 147'sine karşılık gelen %54'lük oyu tek başına alan parti haline gelmiştir. Devlet Başkanı Roh Moo-hyun'ın görevi kötüye kullanma suçlamasının ardından 2004 seçimlerinde bozguna uğrayan parti 299 sandalyeden sadece 121'ini elinde tutabilmiştir. The defeat reflected public disapproval of the impeachment which was instigated by the party.

Acil Durum Komisyonu
Hong Jun-pyo liderliğindeki sistem 9 Aralık 2011'de beklentilere yanıt vermeyince Park Geun-hye başkanlığındaki Büyük Ulusal Parti Acil Durum Komisyonu, 17 Aralık 2011'de faaliyete geçerek 11 Nisan'daki 2012 Milletvekili Seçimi ile 19 Aralık'taki 2012 Başkanlık Seçimi öncesi hazırlıklar yaptı.

Komisyon üyeleri arasında Büyük Ulusal Parti'nin muhafazakar parti çizgisinden dönüşüme uğrayıp uğramayacağı konusunda görüş ayrılıkları olsa da Park, partinin çizgisinden asla sapmayacağını ve muhafazakarlığın gerçek değerini koruyacağını söylemiştir.
POLİTİKA
Büyük Ulusal Parti, serbest ticareti ve neoliberalist ekonomik politakaları desteklemektedir. Parti, Güney Kore'nin Kuzey Kore'den uzaklaşmasını ve Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ile güçlü bağların olması gerektiği görüşünü savunmaktadır. Sosyal konularda da muhafazakar tavrını sürdüren parti, son seçimde başkanın homoseksüelliği "anormallik" olarak adlandırıp eşcinsel birlikteliğin karşısında olduğunu göstermiştir.

Dört Büyük Nehir Projesi
Büyük Ulusal Parti'nin önemli politikalarından birisi de Devlet Başkanı Lee Myung-bak'ın göreve geldiği andan itibaren Dört Büyük Nehir Projesi'nin finansal açıdan güvence altına alınmasıydı. Saenuri, mahkumlara uygulanan işkenceleri, halka açık infazları ve Kuzey Kore'de uygulanan diğer insan hakları ihlallerine karşı resmi kınama yayınlayarak Kuzey Kore İnsan Hakları Yasası'nın desteklenmesinde son derece aktif bir rol oynamaktadır. Saenuri temsilcisi ve aynı zamanda Kuzey Kore'ye yayın yapan Açık Radyo'nun kurucusu Ha Tae-kyung, bir sivil toplum kuruluşunun desteğiyle hükümetin izolasyon politikası uygulaması sonucu az sayıdaki Kuzey Kore vatandaşlarına radyo aracılığıyla demokrasi hakkında haber ve bilgi vermektedir. Aralık 2012'de Saenuri üyesi Cho Myung-Chul, Ulusal Meclis'e seçilen ilk Kuzey Koreli ilticacı olmuştur. 2012 baharında birkaç Saenuri temsilcisi "Arkadaşımı kurtar" protestolarında rol alarak, Kuzey Koreli ilticacıların ülkelerine iade edilmesi ve Park Sun-young'ın açlık greviyle dayanışmalarını ifade eden Çin'in politikasına karşı organize olmuşlardır.
Bu olay nedeniyle birçok Güney Koreli politikacı, akademisyen ve halk grupları mevcut talimatkâr politikalara karşı olduklarını ifade etti.

Generating Favorable Online Comments

The GNP has records of secretly hiring and paying university students to generate online replies favorable to the GNP.

GNP member Jin Seong-ho (진성호) formally apologized on July 2, 2009 for making a remark that "the GNP occupied Naver". Naver is one of the biggest South Korean internet portals.

Seoul Metropolitan Election Commission reported unregistered Park Geun-hye's election camp run by Yun Jeong-hun to the Seoul Central Prosecutors' Office on charges of violating the public election law especially by using fake twitter accounts and bloggers. Yun Jeong-hun was a pastor and dismissed for inappropriate remarks such as anti-gay ones.

December 8, 2010 controversial bill-passing

The GNP passed the bill relating to the year 2011 national budget without the opposition parties' inputs on December 8, 2010.

The interns and the staffs working in the National Assembly officially complained on December 17 that their salary was missing after the passing of this bill.

Inefficient Public Relations
The GNP was criticized for having an inefficient public relations that resulted fewer people voting for them during the 2010 local elections.

Infiltration of opposition party
A Blue House official of the pro-GNP Lee Myung-bak government had illegally infiltrated a party meeting of the opposition Democratic Party, on October 18, 2011.
The United New Democratic Party (Hangul: 대통합민주신당, Hanja: 大統合民主新黨, Abbreviation: UNDP) was a political party of South Korea. It was formed out of the Uri Party and its resulting splinter groups. Chung Dong-young was the UNDP candidate in the South Korean presidential election, 2007; he lost to Lee Myung-bak. On February 17, 2008 the party merger with the Democratic Party to form the United Democratic Party.

Brief History

The party was formed when loyalists to president Roh Moo-hyun in the Uri Party chose to break ranks from other party members who showed lukewarm support for the administration. Some 80 out of 152 lawmakers of the Uri Party joined the new party, a conservative-liberal minority group from the Hannara Party (lead by Son Hak-Gyu), and a group of progressive civil rights' group from outside South Korean politics also joined, seeking to complete political reforms.

As a result of merge with the Uri Party, this party has been ranked as the biggest political party in the legislative by 140 of 298 seats (as of January 14, 2008). After receiving a 'shocked' result at the 2007 presidential election, the delegates of its party decided to elect a new leader, with adopting a 'Papal conclave'-style system. On January 11, with more than a half delegates' vote, Son Hak-Gyu was elected to lead at the upcoming parliamentary election.

It was formed in 1963 as the Democratic Republican Party and was the political vehicle for Park Chung Hee. It quickly became the most powerful party in South Korea, dominating the legislature. The opposition was subjected to varying degrees of harassment, and the electoral system was rigged in its favor. However, it barely succeeded in getting Park elected to three presidential terms.

In 1971, just after Park won a third term, he declared a state of emergency. Later in 1971, he issued the authoritarian Yusin constitution, which made him a virtual dictator. Conversely, the Democratic Republicans' power was greatly increased as well, and for the next eight years the party ruled South Korea as a virtual one-party state.

After Park's assassination, Chun Doo-hwan took over the party and renamed it the Democratic Justice Party in 1980. Even though a less authoritarian constitution was enacted that year, the political system was rigged heavily in favor of the DJP. The situation changed in 1987, when DJP presidential candidate Roh Tae Woo promised that year's election would be free and democratic. In 1990, the DJP merged with Kim Young Sam's Peaceful Democracy Party and another party to form the Democratic Liberal Party, which is now the Grand National Party.
