On the Korean peninsula exist s an extraordinary place: the DMZ, a four km wide, 249.4 km long line that divides the North from theSouth. In July 1953, the soldiers on the two sides waged a fierce war that lasted for over three years. It didn’t seem that the war would ever end, despite the growing casualties. Finally, the UN stepped in to arbitrate, proposing a ceasefire. As a result, the soldiers on the two sides called a truce on the battlefield, and raised 1,292 signs between Paju, Gyeonggi-do (province), and Goseong, Gangwon-do, indicating a mi litary demarcation line. The DMZ, a “land of tragedy,” came to exist.

How has the place changed in 50 years? Choi Byungkwan, the photographer, asked the same question. For two years, he traveled through every nook and cranny of the place with a camera, and found out firsthand that the Korean peninsula is still engaged in a war. The DMZ was still not a place one could visit freely, and the soldiers on both sides still had their rifles pointed at each other. Gun shells and punctured steel helmets from years ago were scattered around the fortress-like barbed wires.

Despite the possibility of military conflict, however, there was more than just sorrow and tension there. With no humans coming and going for half a century, the place had become a paradise of flora and fauna, with a beautiful forest, f lowers, and birds and goats that travel freely. The author presents the beauty of the place through photographs, and states that it should be preserved as a scene of history, even if reunif ication takes place. He suggests that the vestiges of the war, such as the rusted bullets, steel helmets, barbed wires, and the ruined trenches, should remain untouched so that our posterity may learn of the tragedy of war.
What does a diet mean for women and why do they go on them? "Queen of Diet," a new novel written by Baek Young-ok, a renowned chick lit author, delves into the dark side of diets and women's fanatical obsession with the slim bodies.
The book shows how most dieters force themselves to become the unrealistic figures in order to be admired by all.

The novel takes the reality program as an extreme case that defines obesity as a cause for social discrimination, and a physical handicap, but also shows the social prejudice against women who are forced to follow the social standards of beauty. The story is also mixed with glamorous cuisine, love, pets and fashion subjects.
The writer said that women diet not to be healthy but to be skinny. "Apparently, dieting is the most serious disease for modern women," she said.
Minsu has just graduated from college but has no job, this is a reality of his generation. But he has no problem spending time in his room web-surfing or watching American TV shows on the internet. What he enjoys the most is a group-chatting "Quiz Room." Never seeing her for real, Minsu falls for Jiwon, whose ID is "a fairy in the wall." Minsu´s parents died when he was a baby and he was raised by his grandmother, but suddenly she dies. Then he finds out he has just inherited a great debt, not a fortune. The house where he has lived for 27 years is now in the creditors´ hands, and he has to move out. He rents a very cheap small room and gets a part time job at a convenient store. He applies for a TV quiz show to win some money, though he loses. But, from there, he actually meets with Jiwon, and they become close. He also receives from a guy an odd job offer. The job is going to some quiz competitions along with other teammates. In desperate needs for money, Minsu accepts the offer, and begins the weirdest experience at the secret quiz show company.
Kevin heard a man's voice from somewhere on the other side of his room. "Show me your hands, Strange One." A grim voice. "Stand--slowly--and show me your hands."

Kevin is trying to remember what he's supposed to do if there's an intruder in the house--stay calm, don't look scared, call 911. At the same time, he's doing his best to figure out how the heck some guy with a bow and arrows got into the room. The archer's explanation--"I lost my balance, fell off the tiger, and landed here"--just adds to Kevin's bewilderment.

The stranger's astonishing arrival is only the beginning of a dazzling adventure. For the man, whom Kevin calls Archer or Archie, has come from a centuries-old Korean kingdom. And Kevin must find a way to send him back through space and time...before history is changed forever
About This Book
This is the first collection of stories by Min-gyu Park, who, in the summer of 2003, made a very impressionable debut with two novels: Legend of the Earth hero The Last Fan Club of Sammi Superstars. In this collection of 10 stories, carefully selected from 30 by himself, Park entertains the readers with his unpredictable imagination, fresh and lively style, and unusual situation and characters. Everything about these stories, from beginning to end, is new and fresh, with his compassion to the alienated bottom of the society and criticism against the nature of capitalism.

Soğuk savaş sonrasının yeri olarak Berlin'i tanımlar...

Soğuk savaş sonrasının yeri olarak Berlin'i tanımlar...

Beloved by great numbers of readers of all ages, Gong Jiyoung has released her new novel The Field of the Stars after five years of silence. The new novel is a collection of six interrelated stories that the writer completed while traveling back and forth between Korea and Germany. While centering on the characters associated with Berlin, the writer, with her refined sensibilities and fast-paced style, explores the passions and glorious moments of those destined to fall in love and their memories of sorrow and forgiveness.
