Dabotap ve Seokgatap olmak üzere iki TAP (pagoda) vardır. Bu pagodaların imarı sırasında Çin’in Tang Hanedanlığı’ndan bir duvarcı da çalışmaya katılmaya geldi. Ülkesinin onurunu omuzlarında taşıdığını hissetti. Kendini pagoda yapımına öyle adadı ki, Çin’de bıraktığı eşi Asanyeo’yu tamamen unuttu. Bu arada, kocasını senelerdir görmeyen Asanyeo, kocasını o kadar özlemiş ki en sonunda ona kavuşmaya Sinra’ya gelmeye karar vermişti. Tüm zorlukların ardından Bulguksa’ya vardığında, içeri girmesine izin vermeyeceklerdi çünkü o bir kadındı ve tapınak tamamlanmadan evvel kadınların tapınağa girmesi yasaktı. Göle gidip, gece gündüz sudaki yansımayı beklemeye başladı. İnşa bitince duvarcıya eşinin geldiği bildirildi.

Eşinin olması gereken yere koşturduğunda, eşi görünürde yoktu. Etrafına sorunca insanlar eşinin o uzun bekleyişte aklını yitirdiğini adamın adını haykırıp kendini gölete attığını ve boğulduğunu söylediler. Haberleri alınca duvarcının aklı başından gitti. Eşi göletin yakınındaki bir ağacın yanında belirdiği güne dek göletin içine göz atıp eşini çağırdı. Eşi mi değil mi diye anlamak için ona sarıldı ancak sarıldığı bir taştan başka bir şey değildi. Taş önce duvarcının eşi, sonra da adamın bilinci yerine gelene dek Buda olarak göründü. Buda’yı gördükten sonra taşı oymaya başladı. Göletin Yeongji adını alması bu şekildedir. Anlamı yansımalı gölet. Göletin yanındaki, duvarcının oyduğu taş Buda heykelidir.

There are two TAP,or pagodas in , DABOTAP and SEOKGATAP. During the architectural construction of these pagodas, a stonemason from the Tang Dynasty in China came to participate in the project.

He felt the burden of his country's honor upon his shoulder, and so devoted himself to putting up great pagodas, completely forgetting his beloved wife ASANYEO back in China. In the meanwhile, ASANYEO, who hadn't heard from her husband over several years, missed him so much that she finally decided to come all the way to SINRA to meet him.
When she arrived at BULGUKSA after all difficulties, they would not let her in, because she was a woman and it was a taboo for a woman to enter a temple before it was completed. She could not do anything but cry at the door, whose guard felt sorry for her and said,

"There is a large pond not far from here. Wait there until a reflection of a pagoda appears on the water, which will signal the end of the construction work."
She went to the pond and waited day and night for the reflection to appear on the water. Only after the construction work was over was the mason informed of her arrival.

When he hurried himself to the pond where she was supposed to be, his wife was nowhere in sight. When he asked around, people said that her wife, after such long waiting, went out of her mind, jumped into the pond calling his name , and was drowned. He too was not in his right mind when he heard the news. He stared into the pond calling her name until one day he saw his wife standing beside a tree near the pond. He embraced her only to find that it was not she but a rock the size of a woman. The rock transfromed itself to his wife and then to Buddha until he came to his consciousness. He started to carve the rock after Buddha. That's how the pond got the name YEONGJI meaning the pond with a reflection on it. Beside the pond is the stone statue of Buddha that the mason carved.
