1932’de Seul’de doğdu. Kyenog Sung Studio’da ağabeyleri Lee Phil-Woo ve Lee Myoung-Woo’ya yardım etmek için işe başladı. 1 yıl sonra yardımcı direktör olarak görev yapmaya başladı. Sweet Dream (Mimong) filmi Kyeong Sung Studio’nun 6. olarak yaptığı yapımdı. Ancak Yang Ju-Nam için ilk çalışma oldu. Yang-Ju bu projenin yönetmenliğini yaptı. Daha sonra 20 yıl boyunca film yönetmenliği yapmayı bıraktı. Filmleri ve çalışmaları düzenleme ve yayına hazır hale getirmeye yönelik çalıştı. Editörlük yaptı. Editörlüğünü yaptığı çalışmalar ise yönetmenler Choi In-Kyu ve Bang Han-Joon’un isimlerinin geçtiği yapımlardı. 1957 yılında yönetmenliğe geri döndü. 2. yönetmenliğini yaptığı film Exorcism of Bae-Baeng-Yi(Baebaeng-i gus) idi. Daha sonra The Bell Tower (Subheading: Missing another Dawn) (Jonggak) ve A Mother's Love (Mojeong) yapımlarının da yönetmenliğini yaptı.
Yönetmen Kim Soo-Yong Yang Ju-Nam hakkında “Genç olmasına rağmen çok başarılı yönetmenlik yaptı. Yabancı yapım olan filmlerde çok güzel şeyler ortaya çıkarmak zordur. Ancak o ışığını da yansıtarak güzel çalışmalar yaptı. Yaptıkları bütün genç yönetmenlere ders olacak nitelikte şeylerdir” dedi.
