Wongudan Altar (Hwangudan) / 원구단

Wongudan Sunagi, 1897 yılında Cennet Ayinleri için hizmet eden bir alan olarak kuruldu. Bu alan, Hwangudan (환丘壇), Jecheondan (祭天壇) ve Wondan (壇) gibi başka isimlerle de bilinir. Çin Cennet Tapınağı’nın eşdeğerindedir. Wongudan, 15 Haziran 1967'de Güney Kore'nin 157 No'lu Tarihi Alanı olarak kaydedildi.
Cennet Ayinleri, Üç Krallık Dönemi'nde düzenlenirdi. Goryeo Dönemi esnasında, Kral Seongjong, bol hasat elde etmek için Cennet Ayinleri'ni düzenleyen kralların ilkiydi. Kral Seongjong, Wonguje Ayinleri'ni düzenledi. Goryeo Hanedanlığı’nın bazı zamanlarında, ayinler kaldırıldı.
Joseon Hanedanlığı Kralı Sejo, ayinleri yeniden başlattı ama ayinleri sadece Tanrı’nın Oğlu düzenleyebileceği düşüncesiyle hükümranlığının 10. senesinde (1464) tekrar durdurdu.
Kral Gojong, 1897'de Kore İmparatorluğu’nu ilan ettiğinde ayinler yeniden başladı ama 1910 yılında sömürgeci Japon Hükümeti tarafından tekrar kaldırıldı.
Wongudan, 1897'de inşa edildi. Alan, Namsan ile Bukhansan arasında kuruldu. Falcılar tarafından oldukça uğurlu olduğu düşünülmüştür. Bugün, 1899'da inşa edilmiş olan Hwanggungu (Sarı Saray Tapınağı), üç katli sekizgen tapınak, ejderha desenli üç davul ile bir kapı hâlâ durur. Hwangungu, Tanrı’ya ibadet ve Joseon Hanedanlığı’nın kurucusu Taejo'ya saygı için yapılmış sunak alanının kuzeyindedir.
Gocheonje Ayini, 2002'de canlandı ve Kore Kültürel Mirası’nı devam ettirmek için yıllık olarak yapılacaktır.

Wongudan Altar was built in 1897 in Korea to serve as a site for the performance of the rite of heaven. The site was also known by other names, such as Hwangudan (환丘壇), Jecheondan (祭天壇) and Wondan (圜壇).[1] It could be seen as the Korean equivalent of the Chinese Temple of Heaven. Wongudan was designated South Korea's Historic Site No. 157 on July 15, 1967.
The rite of Heaven was performed during the Three Kingdoms period. During the Goryeo Dynasty, King Seongjong was the first of the Goryeo kings to perform the rite of heaven, designed to ensure a bountiful harvest. King Seongjong standardized the Wonguje rituals. Sometime during the Goryeo Dynasty, the practice was abolished.
King Sejo of the Joseon Dynasty briefly restarted the rite but stopped the practice in the tenth year of his reign in 1464 because only a Son of Heaven could perform it.
The ritual was restarted again when King Gojong proclaimed the Korean Empire in 1897, but it was subsequently abolished by the Japanese colonial government in 1910.
Wongudan was built in 1897. The site of the complex sat between Namsan and Bukhansan, and was considered highly auspicious by geomancers. The alter complex was also designed to mimic natural elements such as the sun and moon. It was a three-story altar made of granite and was used for animal sacrifice. The top center of the altar held a conical yellow-roofed building. The altar was destroyed by the Japanese in 1913.
Today, the Hwanggungu (Yellow Palace Shrine), a three-storied octagonal shrine built in 1899, remains along with three plaster drums with dragon decorations, and a gate. The Hwangungu, pictured above, was built on the north side of the altar complex was designed for the worshiping of the Heaven and respecting Taejo, the founder of the Joseon Dynasty.
The Gocheonje ritual was revived in 2002 and will be performed annually as a revival of Korean cultural heritage.
