Silla Hanedanı Kralı Sinmun'un ölümünden sonra (691) oğlu Kral Hyoso dua edip ruhunu yaşatmak için 692 yılında bu pagodayı inşa ettirmiştir.

Kral Hyoso, Kraliçe Seongdeok'un ölümünden önceki iki kralların pagodasına sarira ve bir Buda figürlerini koymayı başardıktan sonra huzurlu ve barışçıl bir dünya için dua etmiştir.

Pagodaya Hwangboksaji taş pagodasıda denilmektedir.

Guhwang ilinin Gyeongju Namsan Dağı'nın kuzeydoğusunda bulunmaktadır.

Üç katlı olan gövdesi ile tipik Silla dönemi taş pagodası iki katlı bir platform üzerinde bulunmaktadır.

Bu pagoda, Gameunsaji taş pagodasıi (Ulusal hazine No. 11) ve Goseonsaji taş pagodasından (ulusal hazine No: 38) daha küçüktür.

Platform üzerindeki stili bu iki pagodaya benzemektedir.

Ama pagodalar değişen bir eğilim gösterir, burda da platform içindeki sütunlar birinci kattan içeriye dogru üçten ikiye düşürülmüştür, iç ve çatı taşları sırası ile farklı taşlardan yapılmıştır.

Çatıdaki taş saçaklar çukur bir şekilde düz ve dört köşesi hafif kalkık şekildedir.

Ve çatı taşları beş basamak ile desteklenir.

Pagodaya destek olmak için baş tarafının tepesinde yarım ay şeklinde süs stupa konulmuştur.

Bu pagoda 1943 yılında yeniden tadilat edilirken, bir altın kaplama bakır sarira tabut, iki altın tane bakır kaplama Budist heykellerle beraber iki katlı çatı taşında bir sürü emanet bulunmuştur.


Sarira tabutun kapağına bazı harfler oyulmuş ve kutsal emanetlerin özelliklerini görmek pagodanın bu yüzden yapıldığı bir gerçektir ve

Taş pagoda tipik Birleşik Silla Hanedanlığı erken dönemini tarzını değişik figürlerle temsil etmektedir.

Bu yapı, çok önemli tarihi bir kültürel varlık olarak kabul edilir ve bu pagoda tam olarak o tarihi anlatmaktadır.

After the death (691) of King Sinmun in Silla Dynasty, his son King Hyoso built the pagoda in 692 to pray for the repose of his soul.

After the death of King Hyoso, Queen Seongdeok succeeding to him put his sarira and a Buddha image into the pagoda for the two previous kings, and prayed the prosperity and peaceful world.

The pagoda is also called as Hwangboksaji stone pagoda.

It stands at Guhwang-dong in the northeast of Mt.Namsan in Gyeongju.

It is a typical stone pagoda in Silla Era where a 3-story pagoda body stands on a 2-story platform.

It is smaller than the Gameunsaji stone pagoda (national treasure No.11) or Goseonsaji stone pagoda (national treasure No.38).

The style of the platform part is similar to those of the above two pagodas.

But it shows the changed trend of stone pagodas in that the inside pillars of the first-story platform reduced from 3 to 2, and the cores and roof stones are respectively made of a stone not of several stones.

The eave trough of the roof stone is flat and the four corners are slightly raised to look light.

And the roof stone is made of 5-step supports.

Only the base of stupa finial as the support of head decoration is left on the top of the pagoda.

While putting down and reconstructing this pagoda in 1943, they found out a lot of relics from the 2-story roof stone including a gold-plating copper sarira casket and two gold-plating copper Buddhist statues.

Some letters were carved at the inside of the lid of the sarira casket, so they could find out the fact that the pagoda was built and the characteristics of the relics.

The pagoda represents the typical figure of the stone pagodas in the United Silla Dynasty, and the change of the early style times.

And it tells the date of the building and intention of the pagoda so exactly that it is considered as a precious cultural property.
