Erkek Kardeş Ve Kız Kardeş Kuleleri
Uzun zaman önce Kyeryong Dağı’nda neredeyse tüm ormanı elinde tutan kaplanlar vardı. Bir gün bir Budist keşişi, Buda’nın öğretilerini araştırmak için dağa geldi ve oraya küçük bir tapınak kurdu. Adak ziyaretinden dönerken kaplanın sesini duydu. Keşiş yaralandı ve her şeyin bittiğini düşündü ama kaplanın iniltisinde alışılmadık bir şey fark etti. Sanki kaplan keşişten yardım istiyor gibiydi. Kaplanın genişçe açık ağzından çıkan sesi dinledi ve gözlerinden akan yaşı izledi. Cesaretini topladı ve ağzı kan dolu kaplana yaklaştı. Kaplanın ağzına baktığında, oraya batmış süslü bir saç tokası gördü. Tokayı çekip çıkardı ve artık insanları av olarak görmemesini öğütledi. Kaplan başını sallayarak ona teşekkür etti, keşişin öğüdünü anladı ve ayrıldılar.
Keşiş, kaplanın sesini tekrar duyduğu güne dek çalışmalarını sürdürdü. O gün dışarı çıktığında, yerde baygın yatan bir kadın gördü. Hemen onu tapınağa taşıdı ve onunla ilgilendi. Kadın her hangi bir şiddete maruz kalmamıştı, sadece bayılmıştı.
Kaplan tüm bu zaman boyunca keşişi izledi. Keşiş bu sefer kaplanı iyice azarladı. Kaplan ise keşişe bir arkadaş getirerek onu mutlu etmek istediğini anlatmaya çalıştı. Kadın kendine geldiğinde, keşişe, kaplanın düğününde onu kaçırdığını, tüm bu yolu kaplanın sırtında geldiğini söyledi. Kaplan tarafından bir araya getirilmelerinin kader olduğunu ve geri dönmeyeceğini de ekledi. Keşiş, kendini keşişliğe adadığını ve onunla evlenemeyeceğini söyledi. Her ne kadar onu geri dönmeye ikna etmeye çalışsa da kadın, keşişi dinlemedi. Onun da bir keşiş olmasını önerdi. Böylece ikisi kardeş oldular ve kendilerini Buda öğretilerini araştırmaya adadılar. Her biri bir kule dikti. Kulelerden uzun olanını erkek kardeş, daha kısa olanını da kız kardeş dikti. Kuleleri tamamladıktan sonra dünyadan mutlu bir şekilde ayrıldılar. The Tower Of Brother And Sister
Long long time ago in Kyeryong Mt, there were tigers prying about the forest. A Buddhist monk came to this mountain to seek after the teachings of Buddha, and put up a small temple. One day when we was returning from an offering trip, he heard a tiger.
He got scared and thought that all was over for him, but he noticed something unusual about the tiger's wail. It sounded as if the tiger was asking for help, so he followed the sound to a tiger with its mouth wide open and tears streaming down its face. He raised his courage and approached the tiger which was bleeding in the mouth. When he looked into its mouth, there was stuck an ornamental hairpin. He pulled out the pin from its mouth and admonished him not to prey upon people any more. The tiger nodded him its thanks and comprehension of his admonition, and they parted.
The monk continued his study until one day he heard the tiger again. When he came out,there was a woman lying unconscious. He carried her into the temple and looked afterher. There was no sign of violence about her, and she was only unconcious.
The tiger watched the monk all the while. The monk gave him a good scolding this time, and the tiger gestured that it just wanted to make him happy by bringing him a companion. When the woman came to her consciousness, she explained that she was kidnapped by the tiger on her wedding day, which carried her on its back all the way here. She added that it must be fate that they were brought together by the tiger, and she would not go back. The monk said that he already joined the priesthood and so could not marry her. He tried to persuade her to go back, but she wouldn't listen to him, and suggested becoming a Buddhist nun herself.
So, they agreed to become brother and sister to each other, and devoted themselves to seeking the teachings of Buddha. They each put up a tower. The taller one was put up by the brother monk, and the shorter one by the sister nun. After they completed the towers, they parted the world happily together. These towers remain as the Towers of Brother and Sister today.
