The Son Who Faithfully Followed His Father's Will

Mezar yeri seçicisi olarak çalışan bir adam vardı. Cenaze gömmek için en iyi yerleri gösterirdi. Yakında kendisinin de ölceğini biliyordu bu sebeple üç oğlunu da çağırdı.

“Korkarım ki bu, üçünüzü de bir arada son görüşüm. İlk olarak sizden birbirinizi desteklemenizi ve birbirinize saygı duymanızı istiyorum. Öldüğümde başımı kesip buraya yakın dağın zirvesindeki baraja gömün. Baraj suyla doludur ama oraya çubuk sokarsanız su kaybolacak.”

Bunu söyledikten kısa süre sonra vefat etti.

Üç kardeş, üç gün üç gece ağladı. Üçüncü gece en küçük kardeş ağabeylerinin fısır fısır bir şeyler konuştuğunu duydu. Babaları kendisi istemiş olsa daha onun kafasını kesemeyeceklerinden bahsediyorlardı.

Bununla birlikte, en küçük kardeş yapmamaları gereken bir şey olsa da babalarının vasiyetine uymaları gerektiğini düşündü. Düşüncesini kardeşlerine açtı ancak onlardan dayak yemekle kaldı. Bu yüzden, onlar uyurken babasının kafasını kesti ve kafayı, babasının bahsettiği baraja götürdü. Baraj su doluydu ama çubuk dikmesine rağmen su kaybolmadı. Barajın ortasında taş oluk vardı. Kafayı oraya koyup barajdan çıktı.

Ağabeylerinden korkmuştu. Seoul’e gitti. Orada kimseyi tanımıyordu ve yiyecek dilendi. Bir sabah zengin birinin evine gitti. Ev sahibi yakışıklı ve iyi eğitimli gibi duran çocuğu gördü. Çocuğun sıradan bir dilenci olmadığını düşündü ve dilenmesinin sebebini sordu. Çocuk olanı biteni açıkladı.

Ev sahibi, çocuğun evde kalmasına müsaade etti ve onu ders çalışması için teşvik etti. 4-5 yıl geçti. Ev sahibi birgün çocuğa para verdi ve onu etrafına kolaçan etmesi için bir kaleye gönderdi. Çocuk kalenin etrafına hem de dış civar taraflara baktı.

Günbatımında geri dönerken gördü ki kalenin tüm kapıları kilitlenmiş, kendisine gece yatacak yer kalmamıştı. Geceyi geçirecek bir yer aradı, ev buldu. Eve doğru yöneldi, kapıyı tıklattı. Hanımefendi dışarı çıkınca “kalenin içinde yaşıyorum ancak tüm kapılar kilitli. Bu gece kalmama müsaade ederseniz çok mutlu olurum.” Hanımefendi ona konaklama imkanı yanısıra yiyecek sundu.

Bununla birlikte hanımefendi ondan şöyle bir istekte bulundu: Gece boyu uyumadan onunla sohbet edecekti. Bir süre sonra bir adam eve geldi. Üçü de uyumadan kitap okuyup sohbet ederek geceyi geçirdiler. Şafak sökerken genç adam, çocuğa:

“Senden bir iyilik istiyorum. Doğrusu biz canlı değiliz, ölüyüz. Kuşkusuz babanın cennet kralı olduğunu biliyorsun. Hanımefendi ve ben nişanlıydık ama evlenemeden öldük. Mezarlarımız burada yan yana. Bu dünyaya geri dönmek istiyoruz. Babandan bizi dünyaya geri göndermesini isteyebilir misin acaba?”

Bunu dedikten sonra genç adam ve hanımefendi gözden kayboldu. Hava aydınlanınca çocuk iki mezar arasında oturduğunu gördü.

Gördüklerinin rüya olup olmadığından emin olamadı. Her neyse, ustasının evine döndü ve o iki kişiden bahsetti. Ev sahibi, o genç adamın kendi doğlu olduğunu söyledi.

Öğleden sonra usta kölelerine iki söğüt ağacını elbiseyle sarmalarını ve çocuğu da aralarına koymalarını istedi. Genç adamın dediği gibi çocuğun annesi belirdi ve

“Orada mısın, oğlum?”

“Evet, anne. Buradayım.”

“Pekâlâ. Gidelim.”

Çocuk, annesini cennete kadar takip etti. Cennetteki babası büyük bir sarayda yaşıyordu. Çocuk, babasını selamladı ve iki genci dünyaya göndermesini istedi. Babası:

“Sen diyorsan, müsaade ederim. Gelmişken neden Cennet’i dolaşmıyorsun?”

Oğluna bazı anahtarlar verdi. Çocuk birkaç kapıyı açtı ve odalara baktı. Ağabeylerini bir odada buldu. Başları insan ama vücutlarının geri kalanı yılandı. Onları görünce, ağabeylerinin de hayata dönmesini istedi.

Ancak babası: “Ağabeylerin vasiyetime uymadıkları için bu şekilde cezalandırılmayı hak ettiler. Sen istediğin için onları da geri göndereceğim. Ancak onları insan olarak değil yılan olarak göndereceğim.”

Çocuk genç adamla hanımefendiyi bu dünyaya getirdi. İkisi evlenip mutlu oldular. Ağabeyler ise yılan olarak dönüp utanç içinde saklanarak yaşadılar.

There was a man who worked as a grave-teller who talked to other people about the best places to be buried (so their the posterity would live well). He knew that he would die soon and so he summoned his three sons.

"I'm afraid that this seems to be the last time to see you all. I want to ask you first to support and respect one another. And, when I die, cut my head off and bury it in a reservoir at the top of the mountain near here. The reservoir is filled in with water, but, when you nail a stick to it, the water will disappear."

He passed away soon after saying this.

The three brother cried for three days and nights. On the third night, the youngest of them realised that two elder brothers were discussing something that he couldn't clearly hear. He managed to overhear that they were saying that they couldn't cut their father's head even if he asked for it.

However, the youngest thought that they should follow their father's will, although it was something that they shouldn't. He told his opinion to his brothers only to be beaten by them. Thus, while the other brothers were sleeping, the youngest cut the father's head and took it to the reservoir that his father had talked about. The reservoir was full with water, but, when he stirred it with a stick, the water disappeared. At the centre of the reservoir, there was a case made of stone. He put the head in it and came out of the reservoir.

However, he was afraid of seeing his brothers and so he travelled to the capital city, Seoul. He did not know anybody there and begged for food. On one morning when he went to a rich house for food, the master of the house saw the handsome and seemingly well-educated boy. He thought that the boy was not an ordinary begger and asked him about the reason for his begging. The boy explained to the master what had happened.

The master allowed him to stay in his house and encouraged the boy to study. Four or five year passed. One day the master gave the boy some money and told him to look around a castle. The boy looked around the castle and, also, outside the castle.

When he was coming back at sunset, he realised that all the gates of the castle were locked and that there was no place for him to stay. He thus looked for a place to stay for the night and found a house. He went to that house and knocked on the door. When a lady came out, he explained that "I live inside the castle, but all of its gates are locked. I would appreciate it if you could let me stay for the night". The lady kindly offered him accommodation as well as some food.

However, the lady asked him to have conversation with her without sleeping. After a while, a young man came in. The three of them did not sleep, but read books and talked to one another. When it was about dawn, the young man said to the boy that

"I want to ask you a favour. To tell the truth, we are not alive, but dead. I doubt that you know that your father is the king of the heaven. The lady and I were engaged, but both of us were dead before we got married. Our graves are here side by side. We want to come back to this world. Could you possibly ask your father to let us come back?"

The boy asked him how he could talk to his father in the heaven. The young man said that

"Cover yourself with cloth and hide between two willow trees tomorrow afternoon. Then, your mother will come to see you. When she does so, follow her to the heaven."

After saying this, the young man and the lady disappeared. When it became bright, the boy realised that he was sitting between two graves.

He was not sure whether it was a dream or not. At any rate, he came back to his master's house and talked with him about the two people. The master said that the young man was his son

In the afternoon, the master ordered his servants to prepare for two willow trees covered with cloth and to put the boy between them. As the young man had said, the boy's mother appeared and asked,

"Are you there, my son?"

"Yes, mother. I'm here."

"All right, then. Let's go."

The boy followed his mother to heaven. In heaven, his father was living in a big palace. The boy greeted him and asked about sending the two young people to back earth. The father said,

"If you say so, I'll allow it. But, since you are here, why don't you look around Heaven?"

He gave him some keys. The boy opened several doors and looked in the rooms. He found were his brothers in one room. Their heads were human, but their bodies were those of serpents. Seeing them, he also asked his father to allow his brothers to live again.

However, the father said that

"Because your brothers didn't follow my will and they deserve to be punished like that. Since you are asking, though, I'll send them back. However, I won't send them as human beings, but as serpents."

The boy brought the young man and the lady to this world. And the two people got married and lived well. But the boy's brothers became serpents and lived hidden in the bush.

Biraz duygusal ve kalbi boğan bir öyküydü fakat doğruların da inkarı olmaz sonuçta. Anlatılmak istenen şey üslubunca ve iyi bir öykü içerisinde yer bulmuş.
