700 yıl önce Bukheong’da evlilik bağlarıyla birbirine akraba iki dul yaşardı. Biri kaynana, diğeri ise gelin. Kocaları, baba ve oğul, kaplan saldırısı sonucu aynı aynda hayatlarını kaybetti. Birgün bu gelin ve kaynana evde iş yaparken, kaplan ortaya çıktı ve yaşlı dulu kaptı.
Şaşkınlık geçiren genç dul, kaynanası için endişelendi ve kaplanı takip etti. Kaplanla kaynanası üzerine kavgaya giriştiler. Ancak kaplan ikisini de tutup ormanın derinliklerine sürükledi. Yine de genç dul o kadar güçlü savaştı ki kaplan vaz geçti ve kaçtı. Gelin ve kaynana güven içinde eve döndüler. Köylüler genç dulu gösterdiği cesaretten ötürü Belediye Başkanı’na önerip ödül almasını sağladılar. Genç dulun kaynansına bağlığının anısına Hyobubi denilen bir anıt diktiler.

The Monument For a Devoted Daughter-in-Law
About 700 years ago in BUKCHEONG lived two widows, who were related to each other by marriage. One was mother-in-law, and the other daughter-in-law. Their husbands, who were father and son, had died at the same time when they were attacked by a tiger. One day while they were working at home, a tiger showed up and took the old widow.
Though surprised at this sight, the young widow was worried about her mother-in-law and followed the tiger. She wrangled with the tiger over her mother, but the tiger dragged both of them deep into the forest. Still, she fought with such a strength that the tiger gave up and ran away. They returned home safe, and the villagers recommended her brave act to the Mayor, who awarded her a reward. The villagers put up a monument to commemorate her devotion to her mother-in-law, and called it HYOBUBI.
