A Korean folktale about two green frogs who always disobey their mother, explaining why green frogs cry out whenever it rains. It is quite lively and cheerful until the end, when their mother's grave is washed away due to their failure to be obediant - a rather harsh lesson but not inconsistent with Korean emphasis on the importance of right behavior and caring for your ancesters.
'The Green Frog' is an is important folk tale because my race is Korean, so I should know some of our folktales that reflect on nature. I chose this because it made sense that you should not misbehave. It will someday totally backfire on you. Like in this story he misbehaves, then in the end of the story he listens and his mother's grave is taken away and he becomes sad. Although, frogs actually don't cry when it rains, they croak.
Long ago when tigers still smoked pipes..." a pair of naughty frogs always did the opposite of what their mother told them to do. This pourquoi tale explains why frogs always cry "Gaegul! Gaegul! Gaegul!" whenever it rains and why--in Korea--"children who don't listen to their mother are called hung-gaeguri or green frogs." Heo remembers hearing the story of the green frogs when she was a little girl in Korea. Her humorous illustrations suggest swampy, underwater, under-the-microscope images. They were created with oil paint and pencil and are reproduced in full color-- mostly shades of green.
