Baharda, içerisinde kaynatılmış pirinci andıran bir şey saklayan kızıl çiçekli bir bitkiyle karşılaşırız.

Bir gün aç bir kız, çömlekten pirinç çıkarırken cadı kaynanasına yakalandı. Birçok kadının yapacağı gibi, kaşığa yapışmış pirinçleri çabucak yedi. Ancak kaynanası diğerlerinden evvel yediği için ayıp ettiğini söyleyerek kaşıkla kıza sertçe vurdu. Kız daha pirinçleri yutamadan oracıkta öldü. Gömüldü, kızın mezarının başında bir bitki büyüdü. Ne tuhaftır ki, bitkide pirinç tanesini andıran bir şeyler taşıyan bir çiçek açtı. İnsanlar, ağzında pirinç taneleriyle ölen kızın yeniden hayat bulup çiçek olduğuna inandılar. Bu nedenle ona Menulchikkod “Gelin’in Çiçeği” dediler.

The Flower of a Daughther-In-Law

In spring, we come up with an herb, whose red flower has something resembling a grain of boiled rice attached inside.

Once a girl, who was hungry, was caught by her wicked mother-in-law while scooping rice out of the pot. She just removed the grains stuck on the spoon and ate them, as most women do. But her mother-in-law hit her hard with the spoon saying that she was rude to eat before others. The girl died on the spot before she could even swallow the grains. She was buried, and an herb grew out of the grave. Strangely enough, it produced a flower bearing something which looks like a grain of rice. The girl who died with grains of rice in her mouth was reincarnated as the flower, people thought. That's why it was given the name MENULCHIKKOD, the flower of a daugher in law. .
